Was it a long, long day? YES, definitely, more than 14 hours! Was it worth it? YES, definitely, because we got to see Chiang Rai, the White Temple, which was spectacular, the Blue Temple, which was beautiful, the Black Museum, which was interesting, and the Golden Triangle with the boat ride, which was very informative. The lunch, which was included, was satisfactory. Now, the guide, Emmie. E.mmie was amiable but, in my opinion, she made sure we were on time, but wasn't a true guide, who would explain fully each sight, and give us historical information. During the many hours of driving she had the opportunity to talk to us, but she slept.
The driver was knowledgeable and efficient. So, in summary, long, long day, great sights to see, acceptable lunch and driver, and a guide who needs training as to what a guide should be.

This is a nice tour but the drive is a lot so if you have the time, try to stay overnight in Chiang Rai to make your day easier. Yes you can sleep in the car, but the ride is super bumpy and it’s not easy to do. I also feel like looking back, it was better to pay the extra money and do a private tour. Everything felt rushed and there were certain things we may not be interested in and others took longer there so we’re forced to stay extra. They started us off at the Hot Springs, it’s nice but it’s just a small fountain thing and we stopped their for an extra 15 minutes for no reason. The White Temple is gorgeous, 100% worth the stop and NOT a tourist trap. Our guide was nice and even showed us the best places to get the ideal pictures. The food was average on the tour and it was cold, not a highlight for sure. The Blue Temple was our second stop and we were awed by the Buddha statue and of course the temple itself. It’s definitely not as crowded as the White temple. We had stopped in at a Karen village, it was nice to see and understand local culture but it felt like all of our tours made this one stop so if you’re doing multiple tours it’s gets redundant. We then stopped at the black temple which is actually a museum. It’s beautiful and they have a lot of different buildings to look at but we barely had time to checkout the main building. The art is interactive so if you scan the code you can watch it become 3D and move. They provide free wifi so that everyone can experience it.
We then drove an hour to the Golden Triangle which is an awesome concept as you are at the point of Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos. But our guide was HORRIBLE. He kept making dirty rated R jokes and there were kids on board. For example, he said “everything is cheap in Myanmar besides the women.” It was really uncomfortable. He was so busy making jokes, that he didn’t even bother to tell us when we got to the tip of the triangle where all 3 connect. We only figured it out because the boat started to turn back. Horrible experience.
Our viator guide gave us average information about each spot in the car but I honestly felt like it was fairly generic and a wiki search was better to truly understand the value of each of these stops.
If you’re traveling to Chiang Rai and want to do a tour, I’d recommend you either go private or ask a local to set you up with a driver for cheaper as you’ll enjoy the experience a bit more. This way you can also include the Red Temple as tours either give Red Temple but then you miss Golden Triangle and White temple or you get white and blue temples but miss Red Temple.

Yes it's a long day. Start around 07.0p and back around 21.00. however how else will one see 7 beautiful stops as we drove from Chiang Mai right up to the Golden Triangle and the boarder of Thailand, Myanmar (Burma) and Laos. Our guide was very good and gave a explanation on each stop. Lunch was a Thai set menu, loads of food and was very good. Cold water provided and a comfortable van for traveling. The drive back though long, was worth the days visits and we made a stop for dinner.
Response from Host, Jan 2026
Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback. We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed the full-day trip to the Golden Triangle and the border areas, and that our guide provided helpful explanations at each stop.
We appreciate your understanding regarding the long drive, and we hope to welcome you on another memorable adventure soon.

We enjoyed this tour. It was full on and a long day but worth it. Tour guide Manny was very informative and enjoyed her role. We had a great mix of people which added to the enjoyment. The stops were great. The long neck village was interesting and walk around was enjoyable. The White Temple was beautiful, but a little crowded. The Blue Temple was also pretty and the Black Temple museum was really nice and different and interesting. The boat trip was really nice and showed the where the Triangle of Thailand, Myanmar and Laos were sitting on the Mekong River. It was a really wonderful tour 😍 Thanks Manny for a wonderful day out.

Full day of activities. We were out almost 15 hours. Great experience but be prepared for a lot of time in a van. The white temple was amazing, the blue temple was beautiful, lunch was ok - buffet next to white temple. Long neck people - wow!! While it was touristy, it was an experience of a lifetime. Short visit but worth it. The golden triangle was neat to see but it was a lot of driving just to ride a boat for about 30 mins to see the borders. Overall, worth it, just be prepared.

Nice trip! Temple visits were just long enough. Great lunch. Boat cruise was nice but golden triangle was not much to see. Karen village was interesting. This is a very long day we left at 6 and got back around 9:30.

I would never book this tour again. We were picked up on time in a van. Despite the listing stating only 10 participants, there were 11. This is problematic because the van is very small and uncomfortable. We had less room in the van than every coach flight we took in Thailand and from the USA to Thailand. It was terrible. Then, the drivers was driving so erratic that we were seriously concerned for our lives. We began messaging with the tour provider within minutes of being picked up. Iknow drivers in Thailand are not like drivers in the USA, but this was scary. He almost hit two cars and one was head on. At that point, we began requesting to be off the tour. We did not know if we'd survive the 13 hour tour with the driving. We stopped for 30 minutes at a hot springs. The tour guide knew we wanted off the tour because we'd been requesting it. So, they left us there. They didn't tell us that no taxis will come there. After an hour of trying to get a ride back to Chiang Mai, we spoke to an English speaking tour guide from a different company. She was very helpful, but told us taxis don't come there. She asked the driver of her tour to take us to the local bus stop, but the bus wasn't operating. So, we ended up on the local transport trucks to Chaing Mai. It was an adventure but not one we wanted. When I told all this to the tour operator, they refused to give a refund "because the tour had started." I wouldn't have known the tour was good terrible until it started. So I went to Viator. To my shock and disappointment, Viator sided with the tour operator and refused to give a refund. I have been a customer of Viator for over a decade and never requested a refund. They have lost me as a customer. I was willing to pay a premium for these tours because Viator would protect customers. Without that guarantee, they are worthless to me.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience in such detail. First and foremost, we are truly sorry to read how distressing this situation was for you. Safety is our absolute highest priority, and it is extremely concerning to hear that you felt unsafe due to the driver’s behavior. No guest should ever feel afraid during transport, and we take your comments about the driving very seriously. This matter will be reviewed internally with the transportation team as a priority.
We also apologize for the discomfort caused by the vehicle capacity. If the listing stated a maximum of 10 participants, the presence of 11 guests understandably created frustration. We will review how capacity is managed and communicated to ensure clarity and comfort.
Regarding the situation at the hot springs, we are very sorry that you felt left without proper assistance. Even if guests decide to leave a tour early, they should be supported with clear information about transport options. We regret that this was not handled better.
Concerning the refund, once a tour has commenced, third-party platforms typically apply their stated policy regarding partial participation. However, we understand your perspective, that the issues only became apparent after the tour began. While policies exist, your experience and safety concerns should always be treated with seriousness and empathy.
We genuinely regret that this situation has led to such disappointment, especially as a long-time customer. Your feedback is not dismissed, and it will be escalated for internal review.
Thank you for bringing these serious concerns to our attention. We hope we may have the opportunity to welcome you again in the future and provide a much better experience.

A must do the temples where just amazing to see in person. Only downfall that It truly took 14 hrs. But other than that it was great. Got to see everything I wanted to see and it was well planned out. We had plenty of time to roam around before having to meet back up to head to the next location. Highly recommend if you got the time.

We understand that it was a long day, and we truly appreciate your patience with the full schedule. These tours often cover several locations in one day so guests can experience as much as possible.
Thank you again for your recommendation and for choosing this tour. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you again on another adventure in the future.

The long neck tribe was the most memorable and amazing experience! The temples were interesting, the boat trip also a load of fun! Our tour guide Apple was the best!
My only suggestion would be to ditch the black museum to make the day not as long. As nice as it was, I felt it a little unnecessary.

Temples were nice to see, as was the long neck village interesting insight, boat trip to golden triangle was a little disappointing, all in all worth doing however
just remember it’s a long day travelling left hotel picked up 7am arrived back 9 pm
Lina_C, Mar 2024
We had a compact day visiting 5 attractions. We had just the right amount of time at each site for us to explore on our own. The tour guide was okay but he stayed on schedule. The driver was excellent, same as the one we had for the Doi Inthanon tour.
Diane_B, Mar 2024
Highlight was the White Temple, definitely. However, for such a long drive, I would recommend that Viator pay more attention to ensure that the vehicle is well adapted and comfortable. The tour was full (12 people) and my seat was in the first row, about 30 centimetres from the side door, with no arm rest. Therefore I had to spend my whole trip stretching my arm to hold on to the inside of the door, for fear of falling off my seat. The road was sinuous and the driver was driving quite fast. In addition, the three of us in the first row had no leg room to stretch every now and then, ending up sitting with legs at a 90-degree angle the whole time. Finally, the only stop we had on our way back was to grab something at a 7-11, to get something to munch on, at 7:00 pm. Would recommend better control around the quality of vehicle and also to remove some places from the program (boat ride to the Golden Triange, Baandam Museum).

Great experience, our tour guide MNM was terrific. It's a long day but well worth the adventure . The day was very full. Starting at the hot spring, then the villages white, blue and black house and finishing in the golden triangle
Abigail_L, Feb 2024
Wonderful tour guide. As a solo traveller he made sure to take pictures of me at the different stops. So kind.
It was a wonderful day but long. Can’t be helped due to how far we had to go though. Perhaps a more comfortable vehicle would’ve made it better. The highlight for me was visiting the village of the long neck Karens. So interesting learning about the culture and history.
Nathalie_G, Feb 2024
It was a very good but also a very long day. Be prepared for that. You stay just a little time everywhere but you get to see a lot.
Mayne_B, Jan 2024
Despite the considerable three-hour drive, the trip is incredibly rewarding! We explored captivating sites such as the White Temple, Blue Temple, Black Museum, Karen village, and the golden triangle. If I were to make a small adjustment, I might skip the Black Museum and allocate more time to fully immerse ourselves in the enchanting White Temple. Overall, I highly recommend this tour :)
HARISH_G, Dec 2023
Good trip. Good sights. Guide needed to be reliable as he seems to have gotten inebriated around half day and substitute guides had to take over
ShaoHao_T, Dec 2023
Took the trip on 3 December 2023. My guide has a nick name Oi and I forgot the driver’s name (it’s an English name).
The first 1-1.5 hours of this trip is to go around the city fetching bus mates.
Highlights:
- White temple (beautiful but warm and touristy)
- Blue temple (a real temple and in my opinion, more refreshing than white temple)
- long neck Karen village allows me to interact with their rings and “Karens” up close.
- Golden triangle boat trip is nice because we can see no man’s land up close and skirt the boundaries of 3 countries.
Passable:
- Black house/Daandam doesn’t vibe with me. Art pieces which can be fierce and dark and many old houses and artifacts.
- Hot spring is nice but given the time allowed, you cannot enjoy the hot spring fully. But it’s not bad.
After finishing the itinerary everyone has to endure a 4 hour ride back to Chiang Mai city centre with one snack/ toilet stop in between. Can be quite claustrophobic for some. Please bring some snacks along, sunscreen etc.
To send everyone back in time, the driver has to skillfully negotiate the bends (a lot along the way) and drive at about 90-100km per hour. I appreciate that.
Guide Oi has a not-so-good command of English but she is warm and will attempt to answer your questions and fulfill your requests.
5 stars for my bus mates from USA, England, Spain and Singapore!
3 stars for the long ride which is unavoidable - we want to cover as much as we can within a day so as to have more bang for our bucks.
Can skip Chiang Rai after this tour.
Vinit_V, Dec 2023
This day trip is extremely long (14+ hours), and Wendy Tours does absolutely nothing to make our day pleasant or more comfortable.
To be fair, one of our complaints is that in our opinion, none of the sites we saw were worth 8+ hours of driving, but the van all 10 of us were crammed into was old and very uncomfortable. I was in the front where the air conditioning vent literally fell apart as I tried to adjust it, my husband was 4 rows back with no headrest and an AC vent with no cover. The suspension was horrible and the seats left our butts numb and backs in a world of pain.
Our tour guide was nice enough but difficult to understand. She didn't give us any key info about each site or even walk us around the temples, literally just told us we had 40 min and to meet back at the van. We felt rushed and completely uninformed - everything I learned was from googling.
Another thing we didnt realize until we arrived (our fault for not being diligent when booking) is what the Long Neck tribe visit is, and when we arrived we felt it was ethically questionable. It is not clear the women (who are on display like zoo animals) are given the entrance fee directly. Again, if our guide had explained anything well to us or answered our questions properly, we might feel differently.
The boat tour at the golden triangle is a waste of time - you dont see anything you cant see from the buddha viewpoint. The PA system was set so loud my apple watch told me 30 minutes at that decible would lead to temporary hearing loss...
The major issue was food - we were picked up at 7:30 am, most of us had food at our hotels, and were then forced to have lunch at 11 am, right after our 3.5 hour drive to Chiang Rai. This was our only meal for the entire day -- and we got dropped off at 9:45 pm. Most of us desperately grabbed bags of chips and cookies at the last stop before starting the 4.5 hour drive back. 3 hours later, they finally stopped at a snack store with nothing but nuts and dried fruit (clearly a store they've cut a deal with to bring tourists to). In a country like Thailand, where delicious street food is abundant and you have to work hard to have a bad meal, we were extremely hungry and annoyed they couldn't have made a stop elsewhere, even if we had to pay on our own. And also not give us lunch at 11 am!
Sandra_W, Nov 2023
Yoyo was a very organized and cheerful tour guide and I enjoyed the day with him. However, the van driver was awful. I've been on hundreds of van tours and I have never been jerked around in a van like I was on this tour. During one swerve after dark, people woke up screaming. He was all over the road and constantly jamming the brake or accelerator. Maybe he should switch to driving freight.
Mary_O, Nov 2023
This was a long excursion. Although the temples were beautiful, it was a lot to pack into 12 hrs plus all the driving. It was hard to hear our guide at times and we didn’t get as much time as we wanted at certain parts. It was still a fun day and you really do see a lot of Chiang Rai! My biggest complaint is the driver was going so fast as we headed back home. It was supposed to take 4 hrs and he did it in 3, but it felt unsafe at times.
Victoria_H, Nov 2023
I could not understand our “English “ speaking tour guide at all!!! The day was very very long! Needed more water too!
Iris_V, Nov 2023
This tour was amazing! It was the only tour I was able to find that included the White Temple, Blue Temple, Black House Museum, AND the Longneck Village all in one day trip. Every single stop is a must-see! However, it is quite long, so be prepared for that. There’s also a lot of driving (more time in van than at the stops). But there’s really no way around that unless you stay in Chiang Rai, so as a day trip from Chiang Mai this was perfect. Personally, I would’ve preferred to skip the Golden Triangle and shorten the overall tour—the triangle really isn’t that interesting—but some people might like it. I guess it’s cool to say you visited 3 countries in one day.
Lara_A, Nov 2023
M or Eminem as what she introduced herself to the group was a very lovely woman and oh my she takes very good pictures especially I was on my own. She very informative of places we went too, very on time aswell and for this tour where we went a lot was so worth it. I love it and highly recommended this
Lizi_P, Nov 2023
We enjoyed visiting the blue and white temples. The tour guide and driver were very helpful. However it is a long day (13-14 hours) and tea wasn't included, we had to stop at a a SevenEleven for snacks. We did however know this before we booked but would have been nice to be able to pick up something a bit more substantial to eat on the bus. The boat ride at the Golden Triangle was informative but perhaps a bit unnecessary as we were on the water for half an hour and we stayed within eyeshot of where we got on. Without the boat ride the tour could probably be shortened a bit.
Mikaela_D, Nov 2023
I would not recommend, you could not pay me to take this tour again. There was absolutely no value added against just hiring a driver as the “guide” did not provide any insight, or attend any of the sites with us, had no charisma and he was difficult to understand when passing directions.
The van was packed, it was very uncomfortable for about 14 hours of driving. The time spent at sites was significantly shorter than indicated; about 20-30 minutes each. My group and I ended up hiring a private driver to drive us back separately from the golden triangle as the 5 hour return would have been too uncomfortable. We could have had this amazing comfortable private van for the
Additionally the company was extremely unhelpful and counterproductive in organising the van.
This tour has good reviews on Viator but check elsewhere and don’t make my mistakes.
