What To Expect

Make your own way to the Thapae Boxing Stadium in Chiang Mai between 8pm, when the gates open and 9pm, when the match starts. Depending on your chosen ticket option, you’ll be shown to your standard, ringside, or VIP seats.

Experience the electric atmosphere of a traditional Muay Thai boxing match at Chiang Mai’s oldest stadium and cheer on the skilled athletes, many of whom rank among the best in the city. Every night is different, and matches often include younger fighters and upcoming talent.

The live matches are held between 9pm and midnight, after which you may have the opportunity to take photos with the fighters from the ringside.

  • Children below 90cm in height are free of charge given that they share a seat with their parents, otherwise the child will be charged an adult ticket
  • Show time: 9:00pm-12:00am (midnight). Gates open at 8:00pm
  • The legal age for Muay Thai fighting starts at 15 years old. It’s common in Thailand to see fighters from various age groups participating in matches, as this is a normal part of the sport’s tradition and culture.
  • Matches are real so showtime can be longer or shorter

This was a fun thing to do in Chiang Mai! The boxing stadium was not crowded and pretty small, but I like that. There are multiple matches so lots of variety. Overall, a really fun night!

Entertaining, with caveats

Overall, we had a good time. We decided to get the VIP tickets with the separate air conditioned area because Chiang Mai was crazy hot that week. We were a little unsure at first but sober traveler friends we'd meet raved about it. We arrived, were promptly seated, and waited for the show to start. It did start a little later than promised, but that was understandable, since most of the audience hadn't arrived on time. The fights were fast-paced and didn't goo round after round, so that was good. I didn't want to stay the entire night, but there were a bunch of fights and a couple where one fighter weed brought down in the first or second round. My only complaint about the VIP section was that if felt separate from the energy of the crowd, since we weren't experiencing the heat, sounds, and action with the rest of the audience. One of the worker's little girl did keep going into and out of the VIP section, jumping on the couches and yelling, which got distracting and annoying over the course of the evening, so that should be something the owners could take action on in the future.

Do NOT buy your tickets online. Way overpriced. Most of the fighters looked like they were highschool friends. Not pleased with the price on Viator.

Guys....what a scam !!! Some of The fights were FIXED !!! I have a martial arts background,and i can assure you,the people wondering around were making a fortune taking bets off the 100% tourists that were attending(no locals).....and unfortunately,most of them were oblivious to the SCAM ! The experience of being in a shed in the far east watching the fights was ok...but the fights were rubbish !!

I am happy that you have a martial arts background but this does not qualify you as an expert on Muay Thai Boxing. I checked with the venue and you did not mention any of the above to the staff or management? I am sure future customers will read all the past reviews to see there is no mention of scams or fixed fights. If you were correct we would absolutely agree but in this case you are 100% wrong Thanks, Paul

Our visit to the boxing stadium was well worth it. We chose the VIP package that got us close up seating in an air conditioned room. The room was comfortable, the beers cold and the fights were interesting. This is a good way to experience the local sport.

Buen Ring para ver este deporte, a veces no se sabe si son real o combates teatralizados, depende del combate. En ningun momento nos ofrecieron subir al Ring como pone en la descripción. Eché en falta alguien explicando algo sobre muay Thai para entender los combates. Solo vas, te dan rl ticket y te llevan a sentarte.
