Extremely disappointed with our experience booking through Viator. We booked an excursion three weeks before our vacation, and every email and communication we received listed our start time as 10 AM. On the day of the excursion, we waited in the hotel lobby starting at 9:40 AM for pickup, only to find out later that the driver came at 9:05 AM and we were marked as a “no-show.” The only notice showing a 9 AM pickup was buried in a separate portal message that was easy to miss, while all other confirmations clearly stated 10 AM. Because of Viator’s poor communication, we lost both our money and our excursion. What made the situation even worse was the lack of customer service. The provider admitted they had space available the next day but wanted to charge us an additional 60% just to rebook an excursion we already paid for due to THEIR communication issue. No one was willing to help or take accountability. Companies like Expedia do a far better job communicating pickup times clearly through texts, emails, and reminders. Unfortunately, Viator failed completely in this area. I would absolutely not recommend booking excursions through them.

When a reservation is made through a third-party platform such as Viator, we do not receive the guest’s direct email address or phone number. Because of this, we are unable to send separate reminders or contact guests directly before the tour. Pickup instructions are provided through Viator’s booking message center, where guests can view the exact pickup time and location by clicking on the “Check Pickup Details” section within their reservation. In your case, the transportation team arrived at the scheduled pickup time listed in that section. We understand how frustrating it can be when important information is overlooked, especially when all other communications prominently display only the tour start time rather than the transportation pickup time. We sincerely regret that you were unable to join the excursion and appreciate your comments, as they help highlight areas where communication on third-party platforms can be improved.
