Itinerary

At 9:30am, you’ll meet your private guide at your hotel, and travel to the Basel train station for your train to Lucerne. After roughly an hour, you’ll arrive in the lakeside city, which is beloved for its endearing mountain views.

Take to the water for a 1-hour Lake Lucerne cruise, and soak up vistas of the lake and town against the backdrops of Mt. Rigi and Mt. Pilatus. Dock in Alpnachstad in time for a coffee (own expense), then board the Pilatus railway for a ride on one of the world’s steepest cogwheel railway lines.

In just over half an hour, you’ll ascend the summit of Mt. Pilatus, one of Switzerland’s most famous and dramatic peaks. Towering at some 6,981 feet (2,128 meters) above sea level, the summit is known for its sweeping vistas over the surrounding Alps.

Stroll around the summit area, and climb through the rocks to discover some little-known military artifacts around the peak. Or, use your time at the top to visit the panoramic viewing gallery. Relax over lunch at a mountain restaurant (own expense), then begin your descent with your guide.

Take the gondola to Fräkmüntegg and then Kriens. Here, you’ll board a bus to Lucerne, and then take an intercity train back to Basel. Your day trip ends at your Basel hotel in the early evening, around 5:30pm.

We had a full day of amazing opportunities in Lucerne, the cog wheel train up Mt Pilatus, can ride down, foot tour through Lucerne. Our guide Mike was an amazing guide lots of knowledge about the area and made the trip really interesting and fun.

Faisal the guide was helpful, informative and friendly. He met us at the hotel and explained everything ahead of each step. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The only thing that spoilt it was the weather as clouds prevented us from seeing the most spectacular views. Do the dragon trail even if it's cloudy! Get a guide if you can.

This was an amazing day The boat ride on lake Lucern was wonderful, the water was so blue, the weather was perfect, and the scenery couldn’t be matched. Then we had the mountain adventure!! Perfect Day in Lucerne and Mount Pilatus

We had an amazing day trip from Basal before our Rhine River cruise. This was the perfect choice for our family. The transportation was fantastic and seamless the whole day. We all loved the boat around the beautiful lake. The Cogtrain and Gondola rides were a great experience for our family. Lucerne and Mount Pilatus are beautiful and we were so grateful we chose to experience this tour. Our guide (whose name I won’t attempt to spell) was Amazing! He shared all kinds of facts and history about Switzerland which our 12 year old really enjoyed. Perfect tour if you want to experience more of Switzerland.

An Excellent Tour

This was an excellent tour. It included several kinds of transportation - train, ship, cog railway, gondola from the top of Mt. Pilatus, and bus. Our guide Adrian was great and extremely helpful. The views from the top of Mt. Pilatus were amazing and riding in the oldest/longest cog railway in the world was very interesting. The tour includes a lot of venues in a single day but got us back in Basel for dinner.

What a great way to spend a day, and with a great guide - Oskar. It starts with a nice train ride from Basel to Lucerne when Oskar gave us lots of information about Switzerland, it's history etc. We then had two gondola rides to get to the top of Pilatus: the first was a small four person gondola, and then the second was a 50 passenger gondola! When then enjoyed the sites from the top of the mountain and a light lunch. Then it was down the mountain on the cogwheel train - what a thrill - before our one hour boat ride on the lake. after a brief walk around Lucerne, we then headed back to Basel. I highly recommend this trip if you are spending a day in Basel.

The trip from Basel to Lucerne and then to Mount Pilatus was very enjoyable. Our guide was friendly and very knowledgeable about the places we went to visit. The views from Mount Pilatus are spectacular. The two gondola rides down were peaceful with more lovely scenery. All in all it was a fun filled day.
