What a cool experience! It was neat being able to practice backstrap weaving. I really had no knowledge of it at all beforehand, but I left with tremendous appreciation for the Mayan people and culture. By the end of the workshop, I was able to do the basic weaving plus a few designs such as the mosquitos and a flower. I was quite proud of myself! Thank you to the girls at Kakaw Designs for hosting this workshop and for your patience and kindness!

Back Strap Loom Weaving Class

I loved this experience! Eve was my private instructor and taught me to weave in a quaint courtyard. She was there the whole time to demonstrate, observe, and correct when needed. I really recommend that you choose a loom and buy it so that you can take it home to work on and finish. Half way theough the class, we took a break for tea and a snack and enjoyed conversation. Eve's English skills were good! Highly recommended for creatives.

Did this with my family and we were quite surprised how much fun and how interesting the whole experience was. The women weavers will end up being a highlight of your trip to Guatemala. Be sure to buy the back strap loom they offer. It’s a wonderful tool for a new hobby.
