Kyudo is a Japanese martial art based on shooting an arrow from a Japanese bow to a target to reach a complete focus of mind and body. The main difference of kyudo and western archery is that, in kyudo, every movement follows a traditional routine that pays respect to the equipment and to the opponent. You will come to the archery range and dress in an authentic kyudo uniform, which will include dogi—the upper wear—and hakama—the lower wear. I'll give a brief explanation about the art of kyudo as well as instructions and demonstrations. With the knowledge you'll gain, you will learn to shoot arrows at the target. You'll also understand the fun and challenging aspect of the sport, particularly while wearing the traditional hakama and armor. Usually in kyudo, you are not allowed to pull the arrow unless you master the basics. But during our lesson, you will be able to enjoy the real kyudo experience even as a complete beginner. Emi was an absolutely wonderful tour guide!

Emi was incredibly passionate and did an excellent job explaining the history of Hiroshima. Her explanations were informative, engaging, and easy to understand. Throughout the entire tour, she was always friendly, kind, and full of positive energy, never losing her smile. She also gave us great recommendations for restaurants and places to visit. The okonomiyaki restaurant she recommended was absolutely delicious! What I appreciated most was how sincerely she answered all of our questions. She was very knowledgeable about history and took the time to explain things thoughtfully. As a Korean who has lived in the United States for many years, visiting Hiroshima was a very emotional and thought-provoking experience for me. I was deeply saddened by the suffering Hiroshima experienced, but at the same time, as a Korean whose country was invaded and colonized by Japan, the visit also brought up many complicated thoughts and emotions. Emi kindly took us to the Korean Atomic Bomb Victims Cenotaph and was very understanding and respectful of our perspective and feelings. Powerful Human Experience

You can read about the Manhattan Project and the atomic bombings, but it doesn’t really hit home how earth shattering the atomic bombings were until you visit Peace Memorial Park in Hiroshima. You can debate whether dropping the bombs were justified but what you can’t question after visiting this place is that the atomic bombings were terrible events involving unfathomable loss of life, and we should do everything in our power to ensure such an event never happens again. Our guide, Akie, did a great job and went out of her way to take me to some things I had read about that weren’t necessarily part of the standard tour. If you are an American visiting Japan I would do everything possible to plan a visit Hiroshima to help better understand this tragic event and how it inalterably changed the world.

An Unforgettable Hiroshima Experience with Masa

We can't recommend Masa enough! She was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. From the moment we met her, she was warm, knowledgeable, and incredibly kind. She shared Hiroshima's history in such a thoughtful and engaging way, and her personal stories and local recommendations made the tour feel so much more meaningful than just visiting the sights. Traveling with three kids can be challenging, but Masa was unbelievably patient with them. The moment that touched us the most was at the Peace Memorial Museum. Knowing some of the exhibits would be difficult for our youngest daughter, Masa stayed behind with her, making origami and keeping her entertained while we toured the museum. That level of thoughtfulness and care meant the world to us and is something we'll never forget. To top it off, our train was unexpectedly delayed getting to Hiroshima. Instead of making us feel rushed or stressed, Masa was flexible, adjusted the schedule, and made sure we still had an amazing experience. If you're visiting Hiroshima, do yourself a favor and book a tour with Masa. She is an exceptional guide and an even more wonderful person. Thanks to her, what could have been just another tour became one of the most memorable experiences of our entire trip. It's a day our family will remember forever.

Our family of 5 participated on this tour on 7/28/26. Our tour guide was Marin. She was an amazing tour guide. She was friendly, enthusiastic, informative and communicated with the group well. We have been on many tours and this tour was extremely well organized from start to finish. We covered a lot of sights in a short amount of time. There was appropriate time spent at all locations. The itinerary was explained at the beginning of the trip. Meeting times and places were clearly communicated. The bus was clean and air conditioned. We would highly recommend this tour especially if you have limited time in Hiroshima or have arrived on a day trip.

Kazuko was an amazing...

Kazuko was an amazing guide with a deep first hand connection to the Hiroshima bombing. Obviously, that portion of the experience was moving and somber, but it was also somewhat uplifting with a spirit of peace. The Iwajima portion of the tour was phenomenally beautiful and our guide really enriched it greatly. Overall, fantastic experience.

So happy we did this!

We had a blast with Hassan! He has a wealth of knowledge to share. We had very few questions and we ALWAYS have questions! We enjoyed the balance between biking, subway, ferry, and walking, especially on miyajima island. This is a physically challenging trip if you are not used to bicycling or used to being on your feet all day. Bring a back pack, umbrella, water, and snacks. Our included Lunch was okonomiyaki and was very delicious and filling. If you need more though, Miyajima has a ton of places for a quick bite or drink. Just speak up and Hassan will be happy to accomodate!

Our Hiroshima and Miyajima tour was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan, and much of that was thanks to our outstanding guide, Angeles from Chile. From the moment the tour started, everything ran like clockwork. We departed on time, travelled in comfort, and returned exactly as scheduled—a testament to the excellent organization of the trip. Our adventure began with a pleasant boat ride to Miyajima Island. As soon as we arrived, the first residents to welcome us were the famous deer. Unlike some overly enthusiastic wildlife elsewhere, these deer were charming, polite, and seemed genuinely interested in meeting visitors. It was a delightful and memorable encounter. Angeles then guided us through the history and significance of Miyajima's famous Itsukushima Shrine. She explained the spiritual importance of the shrine, known for its iconic floating torii gate that appears to rise from the sea during high tide. Her storytelling brought centuries of Japanese culture and tradition to life, making the visit far more meaningful than simply admiring a beautiful landmark. One of the many fun moments of the tour was when Angeles taught us the Japanese word "Talaima”. Whether we pronounced it correctly or not is another story entirely, but it certainly added to the cultural experience and gave us all a good laugh. What truly set Angeles apart was her remarkable ability to keep the entire group engaged. She delivered her explanations fluently in both Spanish and English, seamlessly switching between the two languages without missing a beat. Her enthusiasm, warmth, and storytelling skills held the audience in rapt, almost mesmerizing attention. History lessons can sometimes feel like homework in disguise, but Angeles transformed them into captivating stories that everyone wanted to hear. After Miyajima, we continued to Hiroshima, where Angeles provided thoughtful and moving explanations about the Peace Memorial and its symbolism. She carefully explained the historical significance of the monument and the powerful message it conveys about peace, remembrance, and hope for future generations. Her presentation was informative, respectful, and deeply impactful. This tour offered the perfect combination of history, culture, education, and enjoyment. Between the scenic boat ride, the friendly deer, the magnificent shrine, the moving visit to Hiroshima, and Angeles's exceptional guiding, it was an unforgettable experience. Good 2-part tour....

Good 2-part tour. Hiroshima Peace Park was a great place, though it was a little crowded, lots of school children. The Peace Museum has a large permanent exhibition of photos, artefacts and records, maybe take care deciding whether to bring kids here. But for us the real highlight was Miyajima, we would have loved to have spent more time there. Our guide was great, lots of information and interesting stories to share.
