Yes, games and fun activities in Amsterdam are well worth it, especially for families with kids, independent travelers who enjoy wandering at their own pace, and anyone who likes a bit of a challenge. Game tours are often self-guided and feature the information you’d hear on a traditional sightseeing tour with the flexibility to take breaks and explore further as you wish.

Per one customer who booked the Amsterdam Treasure Hunt: The Mystery of a Secret Sender, “Definitely a fun and interesting way to explore the city. … Would definitely recommend this on the first couple of days you’re in Amsterdam! Game was overall interesting, and activities were fun to complete. Staff were lovely too!”

While most Amsterdam games and fun activities are self-guided, some experiences require you to pick up and drop off game supplies at a designated meeting point. Check that the location and hours work for you before booking, or choose a tour that’s equipment-free and play on your own schedule. Confirm the recommended number of players for your game tour: some options are suitable for solo travelers, while others require two people or more.

You’ll need your phone for most games and fun activities in Amsterdam, so make sure yours is fully charged, and bring headphones so you can listen to any audio information. If your tour requires internet access, be sure you have a data plan or can connect to Wi-Fi. Finally, dress for the activity—comfy walking shoes are a must for scavenger hunts that involve exploring the city on foot.
