If you’re looking for the most personalized, fun-filled sunset boat tour in the Algarve…look no further…Capitan Max delivers! From the moment we booked, he was in touch to introduce himself via WhatsApp and remained fully engaged throughout the nearly weeklong process of preparing for and making my wife’s 50th birthday trip an overwhelmingly memorable experience! He went above and beyond just the average picnic basket, pairing wines with a variety of local cheeses, crackers, charcuterie, and snacks for the kids. We tried diligently to arrange a custom made cake from a local bakery. When that didn’t work out due to factors outside our control, Max didn’t let it distract him. He researched other options and actually found my wife’s most favorite cake, not once, but twice, due to a slight ‘accident’ during transport requiring him to return for a replacement just as we were about to arrive. He continued to deliver excellent customer service by arranging wet suits for our family at a local dive shop and bringing his stand up paddle board for some extra adventure and laughs watching us zigzag between kite surfers on the river. Throughout the boat tour, his engaging personality and vast knowledge of the local history, cave/algar formations, and stories of adventures over the years in the air, over land, and by sea from Brazil and Latin America across the Atlantic to Portugal kept us intrigued the entire trip….just as you would hope from a good sea capitan! Just before sunset, he backed the boat up to a low tide sandbar on the river and let the family explore while he laid out the lovely picnic presentation on the front table of his boat in preparation for our return. The sandbar was a favorite with the kids as they explored, finding various creatures and pockets full of shells. As sunset drew near, he welcomed us back onboard the boat with dry towels, warm blankets and his ever popular playlist, especially crafted to the vibe of the moment. The picnic presentation greeted us magnificently with tasty treats paired perfectly with the right wines as we cruised to just the right spot to watch the sunset drop below the horizon in a flood of orange, pink, and purple hues! To cap off the evening, he surprised my wife with her favorite cake and a wind proof candle sparkling against the twilight of sunset and his boat’s LED lights as a fun loving version of ‘Happy Birthday’ just happened across his playlist as we all merrily sang together. The smile on her face and joy in her eyes…a priceless memory! As we cruised up the river after dark and he helped us up onto the dock, we admired the genuine bond he had been creating with our special needs son. It was then we realized we had not just enjoyed a memorable trip together as family, but truly crafted a new friendship we hope will endure for years to come! And to top it all off, he checked on us to ensure we made it home safely and sent all the pics and videos he took of our family during the trip so we can reminisce for years to come over the wonderful memories made! We went by boat for about 15-20 minutes, and then took a kayak for about an hour! I saw a wonderful view!

Everything was explained and guided in easy-to-understand English, so even as a first-timer, I felt comfortable and enjoyed it! The crew members' thoughtfulness was wonderful; they kept checking in on us, took pictures for us, and even sent us a recommended list at the end! It was so much fun! I recommend it!

Take This Ride

What a fun, interesting, hilarious excursion. We loved this trip! There were only 7 people on this 9 passenger boat so there was plenty of room. The two people who manned this trip were warm, informative, and so funny. Because we were on a small boat we were able to go into all of the caves, ask endless questions, learn so much of the coastal rock formations. I highly recommend this excursion. The beautiful coastline in unforgetable!

Great. 5 stars everything great!!

Absolutely recommended! A small boat that can go into all the grottos and two wonderful boatmen or guides who enjoy their job and their passengers. Beautiful views, grottos and rock formations and landscape in the background. If you show an interest in nature and don't just stare at your phone and film, the two (one is named Hugo) are very forthcoming. The price is sensational. Definitely book this if you want a boat tour rather than a canoe tour.

Perfect journey

A fantastic journey, visiting Benagil Cave and other various sea caves nearby. The captain's skills are first-rate, and there are guides to introduce the features of the attractions. You can fully enjoy the beautiful scenery throughout the trip. It is recommended to bring a small bag, and you can wear a jacket because the wind can be quite strong when the boat is moving fast.

Relaxing, Great Views, Safe and Worth Every Penny!

This experience was fantastic and worth every penny! We went out (2 people) for the two hour private ride with Thomas, where we motored along the coast and got up close to all of the beautiful rock formations. The boat was nice, safe, clean, and we were able to play our own music! Thomas gave us some background on the rock formations, and let us jump off to swim as well. It was a perfect afternoon and I highly recommend!

Cliffs, sea and dolphins

This is a great way to see the cliffs around the area along the coastline. Go early in the morning if you can. Weather dependant but they do give you a spray jacket to wear. You will get quite wet regardless from the ocean spray but it is all in the fun of the trip. The morning we went, the boat took us out 13 miles to sea to find a big pod of bottlenose dolphins with heaps of babies. It’s a bumpy ride so be prepared. And it was a good weather day. You are only in the cave no more than 2 minutes on the boat as that is all the current restrictions allow.

This was a great choice for a tour of the amazing shoreline in Lagos. If you are looking for a close look at all the caves and small inlets along the super high shoreline, this group is great. Incredible

The experience in the Lakes: Dolphins & Benagil Caves – Catamaran was simply incredible! The match took place at the Lagos marina, with a counter/shop where we picked up the tickets without complications. The trip started exactly at the agreed time. The catamaran is different from the more "classic" one: it is a motor model, narrower, and has a feeling of greater speed. After about 45 minutes, we found a huge group of common dolphins, which stayed close to the boat, it was fantastic and very fun. During the tour, the biologist explained everything with great clarity, in Portuguese and English. There were some splatters (tolerable), and they provide waterproofs. We made two stops near the caves, although, due to the size of the boat, it was only possible to see/enter up to the entrance area. Still, it's totally worth it! I recommend the experience, including for families, the children loved it.

Fun outing!

It was a great time! I had read reviews that someone hadn’t seen dolphins (can happen) and was a little nervous as my daughter was really looking forward to it but we lucked out and saw a family of 3 right up close. Was incredible! The caves were very cool to witness as well! FYI the front of the boat can really bounce when hitting some waves - was enjoyed by myself and my thrill seeking daughter. My young son didn’t, he was a little scared but rode back in the seating area and enjoyed the ride. Our guide was knowledgeable and funny. Would recommend!!
