Prairie in the heart of a city? You can find it in east Dallas and I'm excited to share it with you. The Blackland prairie ecosystem is a unique and diverse landscape dominated by beautiful wildflowers and grasses. It is estimated that less than 1% of this special part of nature remains statewide. It is home to countless species of plants, birds, and bugs (as well as other small critters). On this tour we will explore prairie remnants near White Rock Lake and discuss their history, ecology, and traditional uses by Native peoples. Walking/light hiking is required. Some of the grasses are tall! Please wear long pants and closed-toed shoes. Wear sun protection and bring your refillable water bottle! *please note: there is no public restroom in walking distance of this location so make sure to go beforehand! You'll use an app on your phone to play our royal-themed scavenger hunt where you will find items in the city and complete wacky tasks for points! During the game, you will be competing against your group members for the title of King or Queen. Beware, a group member may have a chance to compete for your power and take it away throughout the game. This ghost hunt starts under the UT Tower and spends the next 90 minutes on the University of Texas campus, between the Harry Ransom Center, the Blanton Museum and the quiet halls along Speedway. It's self-guided and runs on the Questo app, so all you need is your phone. The ghosts are ten made-up characters with very real grievances. One teacher keeps writing a child into her registers who was never in her class.
