Go to Istanbul and take guided tours
We all know the top sites to visit in any new city, so we wanted to see the other interesting places, learn about the culture from a local, and have a hamam experience with someone showing us the way. Our all-day tour with Metin was wonderful. We spent the entire day with him eating, learning, traveling together (walking, ferries, buses, taxi), and asking him a million questions. The food was great (we were never hungry, and most times were stuffed!), the amount of ground covered was impressive, and the hamam was something we probably wouldn't have braved on our own (side note to women - you will be on your own once you enter the segregated female area - please ask him all your procedural and tipping questions before you part ways. And bring an extra pair of underwear and a plastic bag).
We did this on our first full day and it was an excellent overview of neighborhoods and ways to move around the city.
I don't mean to represent that this is a private tour - I understand it can be up to six, I think. But since there have been cancellations due to the situation in the middle east we were spoiled by what turned out to be a private tour - it was nice of Metin to not cancel when it was only the two of us. We really appreciated that. It is really unfortunate people are cancelling travel to Turkey - we never for a moment felt unsafe.
Tour guides in Turkey are the most educated we have encountered anywhere. They go through a rigorous training to become official guides. We highly recommend.

Istanbul food tour
This was our first activity in Istanbul after arrival and we shared the tour with family friends. Our guide Fatih, was early and met us at the hotel. He took us over to the Asian side of Istanbul by underground and ferry. The food samplings were delicious, tasting a variety of meze and pickles. The crispy lahmacun was superb, as was the tasty tantuni. Sweets and coffee/tea followed and some samplings at the local spice market. Being a food tour, the food quantity was just nice. Fatih was very helpful in answering our questions. Overall a good experience.

Nur was the best guide!...
Nur was the best guide! She showed us around Balat and informed us about the history and the culture. She brought us to these amazing spots for food where she seemed to know everybody!! I had a blast with Nur and would definitely recommend the experience to anybody who’s interested in Turkish food.

An abundance of great food options
This guided trip provided not only an abundance of food but a terrific overview of the city and it's many neighborhoods. We enjoyed learning about the food that we were eating, the history behind the food, and the many cultures that came together to create the unique dishes they we tried. The time went very quickly and we came away with recommendations for other places that we wanted to visit in Istanbul and in greater Turkey.

A great food tour - make sure you are hungry!
A great way to eat like a local! 9 stops to try a wide variety of food and drinks, with a great guide - Burak - who gave us the history of Istanbul as well as the origins of the food we ate. Don’t eat much during the day as you will want to leave room for all of the food!

Amazing (and delicious) food tour in Istanbul!
Emre was amazing! This was more than just a food tour - he shared lots of historical information and fun facts about the areas we were exploring in between restaurants so it was almost like a food tour mixed with a walking city tour. Exceeded all expectations, and if I had one tip for people doing this, it's COME HUNGRY!

Must Request Erol as Guide!
It's just 2 weeks since I've returned from my trip to Istanbul and as I reminisce my trip through my numerous photos, the standout excursion of our trip to Istanbul was our guided fooding and culture tour with Erol. My friends and I learned so much from Erol's very passionate knowledge of origins of food and Turkish culture. We started off with breakfast pastries and the Spice Market on the European side and then really got to taste many delights on the Asian side. We discovered and fell in love with borek (filled with savory potatos is my fav), menemen (no onions!) and lamucun (turkish pizza) with aryan (salted milk). Erol, I tried to purchase of a few of these food items after our tour, and your versions were indeed so much better. We consider ourselves very fortunate to have had Erol as our food guide as he truly took us to the BEST local favorites to try the very best versions of all popular Turkish street foods. We also really enjoyed the deep conversations that covered so many unlikely topics. Erol was a true joy and speaks perfect English. Thank you for making our first trip to Istanbul unforgettable and so enjoyable Erol.

Istanbul Food
What a wonderful way to tour local cuisine! Even paced and variety. We learned a lot about the city and its culture through its food and how everything got here from other regions! Just be aware if Food sensitivity is of concern. Naturally nuts and spices are delicious but can ruin one’s holiday. Just ask!

Exploring the Real Istanbul through Food
Had an amazing day exploring both the European and Asian sides of Istanbul, and tasting lots of local and truly authentic Turkish food. From simit (bagel) dipped in honey and clotted cream to Turkish tea (cay) and coffee, from lahmacun (pizza) topped with fresh herbs and lemon juice to stuffed mussels and fried pork intestine sandwiches (described as “hangover food”), and from golden baklava and dondurma ice cream to delicious Kurdish doner kebabs. Everything was truly delicious and fresh. And our guide, Derya, was a true delight - kind, knowledgeable, and funny. We loved seeing Istanbul through her eyes and she took us to a lot of great local places. One of our best days in Istanbul. Highly recommend!!!

Istanbul Secret Walking Food Tour
We enjoyed this tasty food tour with Jeremy. We sampled about 10 different food and beverages in the 3 hours we were in the Kadikoy district of Istanbul. Jeremy is a resident of Kadikoy and it was nice to be able to try these foods and get commentary from a expert. These are foods that we normally would not have tried on our own. In fact, this was our favorite food tour of our Mediterranean trip and we would enjoy taking this tour again the next time we are in Istanbul.
