- Please note: We have crampons that are designed to fit shoe sizes EU 35–48 (approximately 22.5–31 cm). Children must have feet within this size range in order to participate in the tour.
- It is cold on the glacier and this tour operates on windy and rainy days. Wear appropriate clothing (no refunds are given if you come unprepared).
- Wear comfortable, warm, yet breathable waterproof clothing and hiking boots. Wear hiking boots that cover your ankles and offer good ankle support.
- Important: We offer rain pants, rain jackets, and hiking boots for rental at the meeting point. If you are not properly dressed, you may be required to rent gear from us or, in extreme cases, be denied participation for safety reasons. Our cancellation policy will apply in such cases.
- The harness sizes is can be adjusted to maximum 126cm.
- Not recommended for children younger than 15

We did the Glacier and Ice Cave tour with Ice Explorers, and it was such an amazing experience! Our guides, Evan and Guillermo, were fantastic and super friendly, knowledgeable, and always making sure everyone felt safe and comfortable. The group had about 11 people, and they gave us all the safety gear, including helmets, crampons, and even harnesses (though we didn’t need to use them).
The glacier hike was tougher than I expected, but totally worth it once we reached the ice cave. The different tones of blue inside were absolutely stunning, and the scenery all around was breathtaking. Evan and Guillermo explained everything clearly and were really attentive to anyone who needed a little extra help along the way.
Overall, it was an unforgettable adventure, I’d 100% recommend Ice Explorers and these two guides!

Fantastic experience! Our two guides were outstanding — personable, safety‑conscious and genuinely attentive to each person’s comfort throughout the tour. They made the glacier walk and ice cave feel both exciting and completely manageable.
The pacing was ideal for mixed fitness levels, with plenty of time to enjoy the scenery without feeling rushed. A perfect way to experience Vatnajökull and learn about glaciers and ice caves in general.

Excellent tour of hiking the glacier (about a mile or so). Beautiful ice cave, guides offered to take photos and gave us plenty of time and space. Would recommend!

While exploring the glacier of Vatnajökull you'll quickly come to realize why people refer to Iceland as the land of ice and fire. The volcanic ashes mix in smoothly with the snow and ice of the glacier, creating a grayish hue on top of the mountain. However, underneath you can find a wealth of both pitch black and bright blue, clear ice. The caves where you find it are unlike anything you've ever seen. Great tour guides as well (thanks again, Iga!).
This is not just a recommendation. This is an absolute must when you're travelling the Ring Road.

This was one of the best tours of my life so far. I've been to 30+ countries and done dozens of tours everywhere, but this is right up there with the best ones, The locations we visited were out of this world, the guides (David and Holt) were spectacular in every way, and when the tour finished, our hearts were filled with joy from the great day we had. The 3 locations we visited (big cave plus 2 smaller ice "holes" / caves) were just out of this world. The pace of tour was perfect, no rushing, all safety communication was clear and easy to understand, informational conversations were super interesting and full of fun facts and both guides were friendly in a very natural and casual way. Holt took some great pictures of us also ;) Both him and David have great chemistry and it also transpires into the tour itself. Such a pleasure. I will definitely use this company again next time and I can highly recommend it! Shout out to David and Holt for providing us such a fantastic day! (Me, my wife and our 17 year old daughter)

Iga was an incredible guide. Because everyone in our group followed directions, we were able to optimize our experience. Oh, and the tour was extended just because our guide wanted to show us as much as possible. Safety was the #1 priority closely followed by our enjoyment. Highly recommend Ice Explorers.

It was beautiful and I am happy to have carried it out. We had beautiful weather and our guide was great, he was really patient with our group! For next time I wouldn't dress too warm and have little luggage. My backpack was full of things you don't need.
