Great food at Lim's House
This was a good trip, to a lovely part of Vietnam. We enjoyed our bike ride and walks, and the food at Lim's House was the best.

Incredible!! We loved our tour and our guide Lily!!
Beautiful private tour with a knowledgeable and flexible guide who has great energy! Lily happily tailored each ride to weather and our abilities. Great food too!! From the moment we were picked up at our Hanoi hotel, we felt cared for until we returned three days later. You will not regret it. We only wish we could have taken Lily with us for the rest of our Vietnam visit!

Mountains must see
Getting into the mountains is another side of Vietnam that is an amazing experience and fully recommended. We loved the views of the mountains and serenity of Pu Luong more than expected. Ninh Binh and the river ride was just stunning.

Great destination and hotel, disappointing handling by tour operator and platform
I want to separate this review clearly into three parts: the destination, the hotel, and the tour operator.
Pu Luong itself is absolutely worth visiting. The landscape is stunning and the trekking experience was beautiful. I would definitely recommend going.
Gateway Inn Hotel was excellent. The staff was supportive, the organization on-site was smooth, and I would book this hotel again anytime. In fact, the hotel offers daily shuttle transfers from Hanoi and organizes excursions directly. Looking back, the hotel handled everything locally.
My dissatisfaction relates solely to the tour operator and how the situation was managed.
The tour operator cancelled my 3-day, 2-night trekking tour less than 24 hours before departure. This was not a day trip that can easily be replaced. It involved accommodation planning, transport, guides, meals, and logistics. A last-minute cancellation of a multi-day trip has real consequences.
The only alternatives offered were:
A different date, which would have left me without accommodation in Hanoi.
A more expensive tour that was significantly different from what I originally booked, with an additional payment required.
I felt very alone in resolving the situation. I would have expected Viator to proactively suggest alternative comparable operators or assist more directly instead of mainly forwarding messages between me and the supplier.
In the end, the tour itself was great and Pu Luong is highly recommended. The hotel is highly recommended. However, based on how this cancellation was handled, I would think carefully before booking through this particular operator again.

Rice Fields Forever
This was a last minute plan and one that was well worth the effort. Our guide was awesome, his English was awesome and we learned a lot about the area and the people.

Great, fun way to experience the Pu Luong area
We only had one full day in the Pu Luong area and this was the perfect way to see the area. Our guide was laid back and was accommodating to our limited motorbike experience. Don’t hesitate to ask questions and just get off the bike and turn it around in tight areas when you need to turn around in the other direction.

Wonderful getaway in Pu Luong-Ninh Binh
Lovely tour within Pu Luong and Ninh Binh - such a gorgeous setting and beautiful ecolodges. Wonderful hikes through nature and rice paddies. The staff at all the lodges were excellent. Nhat was an excellent guide and made every effort to make sure I was taken care of. I highly recommend this tour.

Amazing nature, good dormatory and great guides
This was an AMAZING experience off the beaten track. I will remember it all my life.
My gudies Chin (1st) and Sumy (2nd and 3rd day) were very kind and explained everything what was to happen.
Our homestay/family hotel was clean and comfortable with great view. A bit hard with English communication but otherwise no problems.
I stayed in a dormatory, but the comfortlabel was good. PuLoung was just breathtaking.
The villages were non touristy, calm and chill. And breathtaking!!
This place is for people who like auhtentic calm, experiences with the people and nature.
My hope is that Pu Loung is made as a ecotourism destination, because the environment is fragile. Of course tourists must be coming, but to keep it ecostyle and low key would make this place as amazing in the long run.
My tour went on smoothly (they picked in up at my hotel).
Only problem was that the driver at the ens did not drop me so close to my hotel on the back, I had to walk with my luggage for 15 min. Make sure they drop you approx close to hotel (but be aware some roads are prohibited for cars to enter in Hanoi old town, so the driver wont go exact)
My tips are:
- Lots of hiking going on, I say good hiking shoes (can get slipery)
- In march is can get a bit chilly
- Get Poncos, it can rain
- Get tips for the drivers, waiters, in villages (they dont ask for it but is nice)
- A power bank for charger is good
- They provide towels so you dont need to bring (I did which as a watse of luggage spce).

Amazing Trek with Chi and Tam
I recently embarked on a trek through Mai Chau and the Phu Luong Nature Reserve, and it was an absolutely splendid experience. The highlight of our adventure was undoubtedly the excellent guidance of Chi, who was outstanding both as a person and a professional. Her warmth and expertise made our trek truly special, and we are deeply grateful to her.
The trek itself was wonderfully organized, with every meal offered at excellent restaurants featuring a wide assortment of delicious dishes. Each day brought new activities, all of which were well-planned and thoroughly enjoyable. We were looking for a trek that would allow us to appreciate the magnificent scenery of Mai Chau and Phu Luong, and this trip exceeded our expectations in every way.
Chi's dedication and passion for her work shone through every step of the way, enhancing our appreciation of the beautiful landscapes and local culture. Thanks to her, we will carry memories of this trek for many years to come, with a secret hope to return one day. A special thank to Tam too our guide for the last day that was very friendly and always answering the numerous questions we had
Thank you, Viator, for this incredible experience. Highly recommended!

We really enjoyed the...
We really enjoyed the trip. What makes this trip more personal is that it is organized with one group of people (unlike other trips we experience in Vietnam), hence there is a chance to make new friends.
The sceneries are beautiful and the tour guide we had felt really passionate about his country. The accommodations was good.
As both Ba Be lake and Ban Gioc waterfall are a decent distance away from Ha Noi the region is not so popular among tourists, which means it maintains its uniqueness.

Pu Luong Nature Reserve provides a much less crowded alternative to places such as Sapa and gives visitors the feeling they have truly escaped the tourist trail.
A good level of fitness is required to complete the fairly difficult hiking routes, which include uneven, mountainous terrain.
Accommodation options in Pu Luong Nature Reserve range from homestays in traditional stilt houses to luxurious eco lodges, some of which boast infinity pools overlooking the landscape.
