Aiguille du Midi Cable Car Tours and Tickets

The Aiguille du Midi Cable Car is a famous mountain cable car that has one of the world’s highest vertical ascents. It shuttles sightseers from Aiguille du Midi station—located on Place de l'Aiguille du Midi in Chamonix—taking them close to the summit of the mighty Mont Blanc without the need for any climbing or hiking.

At the Aiguille du Midi summit, you can visit the Step into the Void attraction, a glass skywalk where you can take pictures and admire the views across the Alps. There are also exhibits offering information about the area and its landscape, including at the Museum of Alpinism, which is the highest museum ever built.

You can book private tours that include a ride on the Aiguille du Midi Cable Car, which often include pre-booked tickets for the cable car and round-trip transportation from your hotel.

Dress for high-altitude conditions when visiting the Aiguille du Midi Cable Car. In the winter that means a ski jacket or your warmest waterproof jacket. In the summer, wear long trousers—regardless of the temperature—and bring layers, including a waterproof jacket. Year-round, you’ll need sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat.

Experienced skiers and snowboarders can descend the famous Vallée Blanche from the Aiguille du Midi, but you’re strongly advised to only attempt this off-peak descent with a professional mountain guide. At the top of the cable car, you’ll find the Summit 3842 Maison des Drus restaurant. Here you can buy sandwiches and snacks from the café area, or hot food from the restaurant—think traditional Savoy dishes like tartiflette. The restaurant is small, so it’s worth booking ahead during the peak summer months.
