Great tour of a well preserved historical site
Learn a lot of interesting Portuguese history in a short amount of time. Tour guide Eva was great! Made it a very enjoyable experience for us and our two teens.

This was a really great...
This was a really great tour. Renan is an excellent guide who speaks excellent English. Extremely knowledgeable in the history of the area and also of Portugal. He is very funny and animated, and also tells fun stories about the people and the area. I would highly recommend this tour. I use Viator throughout the world for tours and only once did they fall short. They instantly refunded me the money.

Do not Miss
We took a private tour with Eva. We started at 09.00 which in hindsight is a good time to start as we felt we had the place to ourselves Our entrance time to the library was 10.00. This was an overwhelmingly emotional experience. Being in this room for our 10 minutes slot was the highlight of the day hands down. Eva was a very informative friendly guide.

Our guide Philip was extremely knowledgeable about the 3 main areas we toured of the university. The tour started a bit slow/sleepy but picked up as we went along

  • You can climb the 180 stairs of the university’s recently restored bell tower to enjoy panoramic views overlooking the city.
  • Be sure to visit the Biblioteca Joanina during a campus tour: regarded as one of the world’s most beautiful libraries, it features lavish ornamentation and 53,000 books.
  • Begin your tour at the Paço das Escolas: located in a former palace, this historic heart of the university features some of the university’s loveliest buildings.
  • Owing to its heritage architecture, stairs, hills, and uneven surfaces, much of the university is not accessible to visitors.
