During those years, Romania underwent several changes, and the population had to endure an endless number of injustices and restrictions. Generally, historians present the Romanian Communism in two segments: one between 1965 and 1971, and one between 1971 and 1989. During his first years as a ruler, Nicolae Ceausescu had an open policy towards Western Europe and the United States of America, which strayed from the Warsaw Pact signed during the Cold War. This period is best characterized by a relative liberalization of Romania. A new constitution was adopted in 1965, and entrepreneurship was widely encouraged. The main focus of the Communist Party seemed to be the improvement of people's personal comfort, and large funds were allocated to building flats so that everyone could own a private residence.

Private day trip to Transylvania

Alin collected us from our hotel in Bucharest at 7am and returned us 13 hours later after a very full and enjoyable experience. He was a very friendly and helpful guide and selected the itinerary such that we avoided the tour buses and associated queues at each venue We went to Peleş castle first. Alin joined the front of the queue whilst we wandered the grounds. This enabled us to be the first entrants and we were able to experience the entire castle without being interrupted or jostled by other visitors. We then moved on to Bran Castle which is different from Peleş castle which was again worth a visit. Again we avoided the coach parties making the experience more enjoyable Finally we drove to Braşov arriving around 3pm. Alin walked us into the main square recommended several lunch options and left us alone. We met up with him again around 5pm before returning back to Bucharest Alin was a great tour guide with such a lot of local knowledge and he certainly made the day very memorable for both of us.

Fantastic experience from start to finish!

We almost didn’t take this tour, booked it at the last minute, and we're so happy we did! The tour turned out to be one of the absolute highlights of our visit to Romania. Our guide, Octavio, was fantastic. Very friendly, knowledgeable, and full of interesting stories. He adjusted the schedule so we could enter the castles at the best times, and his planning made the entire day smooth and completely stress-free. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Highly recommend this tour, especially with Octavio. A+++

Amazing tour; Fun & Accommodating Guide

Very fun experience and the tour guide was so knowledgeable and entertaining! He gave us free goodies and, given the very cold weather, was very accommodating by doing the tour in his warm car as opposed to the exposed tuk tuk. We learnt a lot more about the city than I expected to know but the tour guide made it a much better experience than expected!

Hidden Gem

This was easily the nicest bar I visited in Bucharest. Not at all touristy. I was the only one doing a tasting but that didn't detract from the experience. Was given interesting explanations for each wine, then allowed time to enjoy them while nibbling the generous portion of cheeses and cold meats. If I was a local, I'd be a regular in this bar. Book this experience, it's a couple of hours well spent.

2D/1N Transylvania is a must with Alex

Alex, our tour guide, was wonderful. From speaking excellent English, to being very patient, timely & knowledgable about all our questions on Romania. He was easy going & a safe driver. He gave us ample time in each location. We were quite lucky for a # of reasons: we were the only 2 on the tour, we went in December during the Christmas (market) season & the weather was cold (as expected), but great. No rain. And very few lines anywhere for the castles, etc. We would definitely recommend this tour! Thank you, Alex! Our favorite tour in the 3&1/2 wks traveling in the Balkans & Eastern Europe.

Recommended tour

Laura was our tour guide and she was very good. She picked up my family and me and took us to the main attractions in Constanta which were about 2.5 hours away from Bucharest. She was very nice, informative and professional. The day was unfortunately bad weather and I can imagine it would have been even more impressive without the fog. I rate this 10/10.

Best tour guide we've had in years!

Cristine was a wonderful guide. Besides being very knowledgeable, her clarity of speaking English made the tour much better for me, as I am very hearing impaired and have some difficulty walking distances. When the tour stopped she always did so where I could sit or lean. Very few guides we've met (hundreds over the years) have been so accomodating. She is a remarkable guide.

Lucia brings the history to life

We had a blast and learned a semester’s worth of college level history/political science. Lucia is actually college educated on what she is talking about. She has obviously retained a great deal more than I ever did. The pace of ride and information was very comfortable. What a beautiful city to see by bike. We have done quite a few bike tours, and this one definitely stood out for it’s easily digestible content that provided so much perspective on the communist past, the Ceauscescu years, and the Roman/Ottoman influences that persist even today. We had walked around the day before, but would have missed so much had we not rode with Lucia. Great bikes, too! Thank-you for water, chocolates, and personal history!

We had such a wonderful...

We had such a wonderful experience on our day trip to Transylvania! Our guide, Cristian, made the tour exceptional. He shared fascinating history and information, not only about the sites we visited but also about the towns we passed along the way and the country as a whole. His knowledge and passion really brought the journey to life. Cristian was also very accommodating; when we needed a quick rest break, he adjusted without hesitation. He patiently answered all of our questions and made sure everyone was comfortable throughout the day. Overall, it was a memorable trip filled with beautiful scenery, rich history, and great company. We highly recommend this tour and especially Cristian as a guide!

Very nice introduction to Bucharest

I really liked this tour. It is a great way to get to know the city especially in the front part of your stay here. You are driven around to many many of the sites ranging from seeing Gypsy people and the flower selling to Victory Square to the Presidents house (former communist leader) , etc. What I really liked was how flexible they were. The day was quite hot AND we had a tour for later in the week to walk Old Town. This, our guide decided to do more driving and less walking. Then, when a surprise rain storm hit he still drove around showing us Bucharest. This is a really nice tour
