Ghana's Slave Castles: A Legacy of Resilience & Kakum Nationsl Park
We had an absolutely amazing time on the tour. Touring these castles is a reminder that we are the descendants of those who refused to die. We are the legacy of people who endured the unthinkable. It is a journey that left us feeling raw and hollowed out, yet strangely fortified. We walked out of those gates carrying their stories, ensuring that while they were forced through a door of "no return," their spirit finally has returned —through us.
We also enjoyed the Kakum National Park. The lunch was delicious and I enjoyed the 8 suspension bridges. What no-one mentioned was that there were 87 steps that we had to climb along with the steep incline to ascend the hill. It was challenging but we felt accomplished when we completed the tour.

Unforgettable tour with Emmanuel
Let me start with the Cons, of which there is only one. I booked this trip last minute on a Friday to go on the Saturday as the previous trip I booked with another operator was unexpectedly cancelled. The website clearly stated I could still book the trip up to about 12 hours before the start date and time. After receiving confirmation, a few hours later and late in the evening I got a call saying that the trip was canceled for that day (no reason given) and that I could choose another day.
So, long story short I ended up going on the Sunday and it was a fantastic day. We were a small group of 3 solo travellers and our tour guide Emmanuel was absolutely amazing! He is so intelligent, knowledgeable and articulate, he made it so much fun! It was a long day but I wouldn’t say it was too much walking, and the mini bus was comfortable and air conditioned. Emmanuel gave us lots of opportunities to take pictures, and was able to answer every single question we had regarding history, geography and culture!
We started the day visiting the Umbrella Rock and Boti Falls - both were incredible! We stopped for lunch and continued on with the rest of the tour before returning back to our respective accommodations. All in all I would say it is definitely worth the trip and I 100% recommend. Special credit to Mercy at Tetteh Quarshie cocoa farm who was also so full of knowledge and enthusiasm regarding the process of growing and processing Cocoa. I also want to mention our guide at Aburi gardens, whose name I can’t remember for the life of me! He was so passionate, knowledgeable and just made the tour so interesting and fun.
Oh, and if you're thinking of booking, bring comfy shoes, and a water bottle - you'll want to stay hydrated!
If you are wondering whether or not to book the tour, I suggest you go ahead! 😊

A Great Introduction to Ghana
This tour really only covers the part of Ghana’s history that you can understand from Accra city, but it shows how deep the culture and history of the country can go.
It definitely helped that our guide, Emmanuel, was very knowledgeable about the city, including places that were not stops on this particular tour.

Long, but fun and emotional
The whole day was about 15 hours. The trip from Accra was long and bumpy. I was not ready for the hike uphill at Kakum but it was really fun. This would be difficult for anyone with mobility limitations. Our guide at the Cape Coast Castle was excellent. Very emotional for me as an African American. Our guide Kofi was great and made everything go smoothly. Would definitely recommend.

Cape Coast Guided Tour with a Kind and Engaging Host
The Cape Coast guided tour was a meaningful and memorable experience, made even better by Mensah’s (tour host) kindness, patience, and willingness to answer questions.
The site tours at Elmina Castle, Cape Coast Castle, and Kakum Park were rich, informative, and thoughtfully paced, offering important historical and cultural context that deepened the experience of visiting Cape Coast.
Tips for future travelers:
The ride to Cape Coast is quite long (4-5 hours depending on traffic & road conditions). When we traveled, there was ongoing road construction along parts of the route which made the ride very bumpy at times. I highly recommend bringing a small pillow for comfort, snacks and water, medication if you’re prone to motion sickness, and—most importantly—patience. The journey is well worth it, but being prepared will make it much more enjoyable.
Overall, this was an excellent tour led by a gracious and personable host. Highly recommended for anyone looking to explore the highlights of Cape Coast.

Samuel was exceptional,...
Samuel was exceptional, exceptional, exceptional ! I’d give him 6 out of 5 stars! He was well versed on Ghanaian history, current affairs, culture and religion. My sky-high visit to the enormous outdoor market was eye-opening. But the best thing about my half day tour was Samuel’s warm, outgoing and friendly personality. I felt totally comfortable from the moment he picked me up. He is one of the top guides I’ve had in my life and I’d recommend him to anyone who wants to know more about Accra, Ghana.

Excellent experience. Be...
Excellent experience. Be prepared to know what you want to buy and wear closed toe shoes if you are concerned about stepping in stuff. Tour guide was very knowledgeable and knew his way around. He even was kind enough to help us get back to our hotel. This market is not for going by yourself as a first timer.

Sensational drum class
I had an absolutely amazing experience today. Jimmy Akiti is someone whose character is perfectly suited to teaching drumming. He is kind, calm and very helpful. I can highly recommend him to anyone who wants to have a truly special experience in Ghana.

Amazing tour w Vince
Vince was absolutely wonderful ! he carries a wealth of knowledge. this tour is exactly what i needed to better understand my roots. he’s relationship with the community in evident and throughout the experience his number one priority is to make sure you are comfortable, so
you can enjoy the tour. he continuously checks in to ensure you do not have any questions, so you are not listening to him or others speak the entire time. i enjoyed the mini pop quizzes he would give me to ensure i was paying attention lol! the food place we went to was absolutely delicious. that jollof was 10/10! i would definitely book other experiences with him. thank you so much, Vince!

Will be the best meal you eat in Accra
My wife and I always book a cooking class when we travel and we were very happy with this option. Auntie K provides clear directions to the meeting point and walks you through the entire process of cooking your dishes. We did not request a specific dish and had Auntie K choose for us. We ended up making jollof Rice and Grilled chicken with boiled plantains and eggs, sauteed cabbage, and greens with smoked tuna. It was hands down the best jollof rice and chicken we had in Accra during our stay and the greens were my favorite out of everything. Be sure to write down the recipe as you cook so you can try to recreate at home. Auntie K was happy to answer any questions we had about the process or anything else that came to mind. You can choose to work as much as you feel like. The process is fulfilling and satisfying to participate and eat. We would recommend to anyone looking to learn how to make local Ghanian dishes at home.

See it for yourself - I'm glad I did.
I had read about Agbogbloshie in a new book called "Waste Wars," what happens to electronics and appliances from the West? Much of it ends up in Accra to be taken apart for the metals. People work hard to get anything of value and burn the plastic. The workers live across the river, and we walked through the neighborhood - though poor, it is a vibrant community, and I'm glad this tour exists.
