You will love this experience for its thrills and for the deepened educational awareness. The canopy walk was super fun and does require you to walk up steps to the actual canopy. The castle visits were heart wrenching but glad I took the time and witnessed it for myself.
Response from Host, Feb 2026
Hello Nashira, thank you very much for the review, we appreciate it. We are glad you enjoyed the tour

The Cape Coast guided tour was a meaningful and memorable experience, made even better by Mensah’s (tour host) kindness, patience, and willingness to answer questions.
The site tours at Elmina Castle, Cape Coast Castle, and Kakum Park were rich, informative, and thoughtfully paced, offering important historical and cultural context that deepened the experience of visiting Cape Coast.
Tips for future travelers:
The ride to Cape Coast is quite long (4-5 hours depending on traffic & road conditions). When we traveled, there was ongoing road construction along parts of the route which made the ride very bumpy at times. I highly recommend bringing a small pillow for comfort, snacks and water, medication if you’re prone to motion sickness, and—most importantly—patience. The journey is well worth it, but being prepared will make it much more enjoyable.
Overall, this was an excellent tour led by a gracious and personable host. Highly recommended for anyone looking to explore the highlights of Cape Coast.

Amazing tour through the Cape Coast, Elmina Castle and Kukum National Park. The drive to and from Cantonments took about 4-5 hours but it was well worth it. The slave castles are a must see, and the canopy walk was quite a hike up and the across the canopy walk 40 feet above ground. The view was breathtaking. We had a great tour guide. Gian was very helpful and friendly. I went with my mom and we had such a great day together.
Response from Host, Apr 2025
Hi Prescella,
We are glad you and your mom had an amazing time on this tour. We really appreciate this positive review from you.

We went with Suwaiba from ProTour Africa and Mr Ernest the driver - both friendly and informative. Really great experience - the day didn't feel rushed and they even kindly dropped us off to a restaurant we wanted to go to for dinner. I would recommend them to anyone - they were on time too!
Response from Host, Dec 2024
Hi Roshan,
We really appreciate this positive feedback from you. We are glad you had a good time on the tour as well. We hope you enjoy the rest of your stay in Ghana.
Deborah_Z, Jun 2024
Gian was the personification of calm under pressure. On our way to the National Park he luckily noticed a sound coming from the engine. Upon inspection he found a frayed fan belt. He tracked down a couple mechanics, located a new belt and we were able to finish the tour albeit a bit late. A long day for Gian!
Response from Host, Dec 2024
Hi Deborah,
Thank you very much for the positive review. We are glad you enjoyed your tour.
Peter_M, Apr 2024
This tour is a perfect mixture of nature and history. The visit to the Kakum National Park and its elevated walkways was very memorable. The visits to the slave forts presented the history of the slave trade, the sheer scale of the enterprise and also the inhuman conditions on which the slaves were held before transportation to the Americas. I noticed that in many of the prison areas and particularly at points of embarkation, many visitors from the US had left floral tributes to their ancestors. Suwaiba and Ernst were great guides
Response from Host, Apr 2024
Hi Peter, thank you so much for leaving us this positive review. You were amazing on this tour and we are glad you enjoyed the day.
Sarah_M, Apr 2024
Great tour! Understandably a long day with the driving but a nice way to see more of Ghana if you only have a few days and you’re based in Accra. Really enjoyed the castle tours as well as lunch and the canopy walk at Kakum. One concern was that our group joined other groups at each of the castles for the tours, and due to how timing worked out we joined both late and missed the intros. Other than that, a great experience!
Response from Host, Apr 2024
Hi Sarah,
We appreciate this feedback. We are happy to know that you enjoyed your experience and we apologise for areas we fell short. We hope to have you again in Ghana soon.
GODFREY_S, Mar 2024
Seeing the horror that our ancestors had to endure. I hope this will never happen to any group of people again.
Response from Host, Mar 2024
Hi Godfrey, thank you for booking this tour with us. It was very amazing having you on this tour as well.
Kristin_S, Feb 2024
I was a bit nervous about prep and logistics leading up to my first tour in Ghana, but received a very detailed message from Rashida at ProTour Africa the afternoon prior. Our guide Gian was very knowledgeable, accommodating, and went above and beyond with additional recommendations for the remainder of our visit. Such an impactful day touring the 2 castles, followed by delicious and authentic lunch and fantastic hike at Kakum. A wonderful experience I would highly recommend!
Response from Host, Feb 2024
Hi Kristin, thank you so much for this positive review. We are glad you enjoyed the experience and the rest of your stay in Ghana.

Dawan_J, Jan 2024
Our driver Nana and our tour guide Suema were fantastic, they get five stars. My only complaint is that on the site when booking the tour, it seems the reviews for several different tours were all together and I ended up not getting what I thought I signed up for. So just a word of caution to others, the tour to go to Slave River and the tour to see Kakum park are different. Make sure you sign up for the correct one. Also, the short hike to get to the canopy walk in Kakum park was more strenuous than we thought it would be!
Response from Host, Jan 2024
Hello Dawan, thank you very much for your review. We are sorry to hear that you had booked the wrong tour. We advise that guests confirm their tour details before confirming their booking. We are happy to sign you up for the right tour if you let us know in advance. We hope you enjoy the rest of your stay in Ghana and please let us know if you need any assistance while you are here. Thank you!

This experience was definitely in our list during the visit. My husband and I rode with groups from other properties. We didn’t get started til maybe two hours after scheduled departure bc people were not ready. The journey was long but the castles were overwhelming to experience.
The favorite parts for me were the bridge walk! It felt free to be up there and a good break from the heavy morning of cape coast.
Food took a while to prepare and they ran out of a lot of items so we were scrambling to find something to eat.
What took away from experience:
1. People not ready on time pushed the schedule back for everyone. This made late arrivals for everything that was scheduled.
2. Because they put so many people in one group, it took away from the experience and tours at the castles.
3. The road is not a smooth pathway driving there and back. The driver did not take those bumps into consideration and it made the ride uncomfortable.
4. Didn’t make it back till 11 pm and was scheduled for 6:30 am pick up.
5. Took us 2 hours for everyone to get their food, took up more time.
But how often are you in Ghana to take advantage of these moments !?
Just make sure you’re with a group who is looking for you to receive a good experience.
Response from Host, Jan 2024

Truly a day for the memory books! They picked us up right from our lodging and came exactly on time. The ride was relaxed and so scenic. Then the tours! Wowwwww just be ready for an emotionally impactful but also incredibly important physical introduction to one of the darkest periods of our world's history. They were thorough and and thoughtfully done. Then lunch was so great at the Kakuma Forest and the canopy walk was amazing! There was one more nearby site that I was dying to see and my driver was nice enough to let my group go snap a couple photos there before returning home. Truly a wonderful day!
Response from Host, Jan 2024
Hello Bernice, thank you very much for your review. We really appreciate it and hope to host you soon in Ghana during your next visit. Enjoy the rest of your stay in Ghana and wish you safe travels back home.

There's nothing like getting rained on in the rainforest - what a blessing from the skies! Thank you to our tour guide Gian for such an incredible and deeply moving day. Its a spectacular experience walking the canopy walk in Kakum National Park, suspended between ancient indigenous trees. Both the Elmina and Cape Coast Castles were very powerful places to visit and be educated about the history of Ghana. I highly recommend this tour and the insights and take aways one gets when immersed in history and nature.
Response from Host, Nov 2023
Hi Meagan,

Liz_R, Sep 2023
We recently, scheduled a day tour which included the Canopy walk in the Cape Coast at Kakum National Park. When we arrived, we were quickly greeted by our tour guide who introduced himself and guided through the canopy walk. We first started off with a 15 minute hike with 3 rest stops inbetween before reaching the start of the canopy walk. On our way up our tour guide spoke to us about the area and how there were about 70 different tribes who lived off of the land of the rain forrest, the wildlife in the area and how the rain forrest is now protected.
I would highly recommend this tour to those who enjoy a small hike and beautiful views of the rain forrest

This was such a special experience to have with my children and grandson. We started with the Slave River, headed to Elmina Castle and finished with the canopy walk at Kakum National park. The walk to slave river and the castle are sacred and such emotional experiences. Walking the canopies at Kakum is the perfect way to decompress and rebalance your emotions after experiencing such overwhelming emotions
Response from Host, Aug 2023
Thank you April for choosing to embark on this experience with your family with ProTour Africa. It was a pleasure having you all tour with us and we look forward to many more experiences with you.

Learning history, seeing things, and getting acquainted with my guide. The latter also helps me learn about Ghana.
Response from Host, Jan 2023
Hello Margaret, it was nice having you. Thank you for your comment and we hope to see you again some other time
Dawn_N, Jan 2023
Zainab was instrumental in getting us to Ghana. She helped us with our visa paperwork before we arrived.
The tour itself takes the whole day so if you have the time break it up to two days do so. It's a long way to the coast and traffic is unpredictable. We did it in one day and it turned out great. The castles were an emotional experience. They are similar, so if you miss information from one, you get it at the other. The park was fun with bridge swings and lunch on the beach lightened the mood of the trip. Very educational. Rafa was a great guide. Thank you ProTour Africa! We plan to come back!
Response from Host, Jan 2023
Hello Dawn, we’re grateful that you took the time to leave us a review. It nice to know you had a wonderful experience with our team during your stay in Ghana. Thanks a lot!
Nnenna_O, Jan 2023
Get ready for a long, emotional day. We started off at the National Park. I wasn’t prepared for the hike and had on a dress and flats but made it through. I am not a hiker and was able to go through the walkway without any issues. Stay hydrated and consider bug spray. It was fun!
We did two Slave dungeons (we call things what they are), and I became heavy with emotion during our first stop. During the second tour, it was not lost on me the gravity of seeing the plaque former US President Barack Obama and Forever First Lady Michelle Obama left after their visit. To know that this was a place Africans were before they left for foreign lands to never go home…but we have Black people who came and leave freely, heavy hearts all around. Go and pay your respects.
We then went to the beach and had a very late lunch. Things didn’t go as scheduled but the food came on time. Make sure to bring snacks so you’re not hungry like me.
Response from Host, Jan 2023
Thank you very much Nnenna for this review. We appreciate you taking this tour with us and look forward to your next visit.

I had a wonderful time and learned a lot throughout the day. My tour guide Khadija was very knowledgeable and kind. Definitely recommend.
Response from Host, Dec 2022
Thank you very much for coming Abena and we would be very glad to have you another time
Temy_C, Nov 2022
This tour was outstanding from start to finish. You should have (or bring) a substantial breakfast, because you won’t have an opportunity to eat until lunch. Our driver was professional and accommodating, and the guides at each of the stops are very knowledgeable. The beach-front lunch views are amazing! There was quite a bit of traffic, so be patient—bring a book or something to keep you occupied.
Response from Host, Nov 2022
Hello Temy, thank you very much for your review and recommendation. We hope to see you again on your next visit to Ghana!
Lindsay_A, Oct 2022
We really enjoyed the tour especially the balance of Kakum National Park to start off tour since the castles/dungeons can bring heavy emotions. I would recommend informing guests of the fire ants risk those things bite so please wear closed toed shoes and long socks if possible. Also bring water, snacks, sanitizer and wipes and utiilze bathroom breaks since there is several stretches of long road time. Overall great tour! Would definitely recommend
Response from Host, Nov 2022
Hello Lindsay, thank you very much for reviewing. We apologise for the situation with the ants at the forest. We are still glad you had a great time on the tour. We are grateful you chose to take this tour with us and we look forward to your next visit. Safe travels back home!
Krys_T, Oct 2022
Definitely a surreal experience going to the slave dungeons and seeing everything in real life. An experience I think everyone should have.
I also went to the Kakum National forest which was absolutely beautiful and did the rope walk which was we exhilarating!
Besides that Rashida and Mr. Ernest was amazing and made me feel so comfortable and we had so much fun, which is nice especially since I was solo traveling. I definitely will keep their contact information and suggest to friends when visiting Ghana.
Response from Host, Oct 2022
Hello Krystle, thank you soo much for your review. You are amazing and I had a great time with you. Thank you very much for writing this review. My regards to your mom!!!
