Truly local experience in Bali

Even in the midst of torrential downpour and corresponding traffic, Putu showed us a great time and got us delicious, local food. He's an outstanding guide, considerate and goes above and beyond to explain local life in Ubud. If you want the food locals eat, this is the tour for you. Be prepared for the spice - which is manageable - and true street food. You will not be disappointed!! You're in great hands with Putu!

Having done a few food tours in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur which we thoroughly enjoyed we found this tour to be a bit strange. It had far less structure where we got to choose a lot of what we would eat (half the idea of a food tour is to try things you wouldn’t normally eat), we were the only 2 people on the tour so it had a strange vibe compared to bigger group tours. The night market was OK for sampling bits of things but the “restaurant” for the sucking pig for the main meal was pretty disgusting from a hygiene point of view and by this stage we just didn’t want to eat what was given to us for fear of getting ill. I think the guide that you land would also make an impact on your experience.

If you would like to experience traditional Balinese food with the help of an experienced guide then this is the trip for you! Our guide helped explain what foods we would be eating and how the food was prepared, took the guess work out for us. Excellent tour, great guide, totally worth every dollar. Nati was an incredible tour guide, sharing his local knowledge with us - we enjoyed the best food we’ve had in Bali so far. We visited a coffee place where we got to sample coffee & tea and see how lewak coffee is “processed” we ate Babi Guling - duckling pig which was delicious, then spent some time in the park with the locals in the early evening watching the people dancing, flying kites and playing soccer, then walked over to the night market where we ate sarumbatan, matabak, dim sum, satay & several other items I can’t recall the name of. It was our first night in Bali and we were worried about getting sick but had no problems - definitely helps to have a local guide to help pick the best spots to try local food. Nati wanted us to try more but we were a bit jet lagged and full. Great experience. 10 stars! Thoroughly recommend.

Nara was our guide. He was amazing! He had to fight through the terrible Ubud traffic to get to us. We started a bit late but definitely got our money’s worth and filled our tummies trying local delights including suckling pig, chicken butu, meatball soup, satays (chicken, pork, tuna, mei goreng, and three fantastic explosions of joy for dessert! The experience was a wonderful way to immerse ourselves in the food culture. We returned to our hotel at 10:30pm after setting out just before 6pm.

Excellent night market food tour

We had a lovely time enjoy tasting a variety of food. Nata the guide was very knowledgeable about Balinese food. He explained things in english that was very good. He picked us on time from the resort. He kept us up to date of our booking. The night market we went was nice and clean. The vendors showed us the way the food was prepared. Very entertaining. We wouldn't have gone to these places by ourselves. Thanks Nata for a great night out.

Cool experience, local food & places

The night market and food tour was very interesting, and thanks to Putu we had a good time and food that we wouldn't have tried on our own. Also the two night market places are definitely not places we would have found and been to on our own. They are really local, no tourists there and all the food is very authentic. We started our tour with a restaurant that served suckling pig, which we wanted to try. Beware, very spicy sauces and soup on the side! Then on the two night markets we tried different specialties, we liked the tuna and the Terang Bulan (dessert) very much!

Great local experience - great vegetarian options!

Fantastic tour! Highly recommend! We spent a great evening with our guide in a local market we would never have found or visited. Half the enjoyment was spending time among locals and getting a sense of every-day life. The other half was the food! We are vegetarian and it wasn't a problem. We had lots of different food to try, could select a few choices of our own, and could take away anything we couldn't quite manage to finish. The pace of the tour was excellent - it didn't feel rushed at all, and we have plenty of time to wander around, to sit and watch what was going on, and take our time with the food. Would highly recommend!

We asked for suckling pig and were taken to a restaurant that served delicious suckling pig with crispy skin. We then went to a night market and had lots of tasty authentic Indonesian food.

Our driver was great, helpful and kind. Took us to a restaurant which served suckling pig. Then to an authentic Balinese street market where we tried all sorts of different cuisine. Much more food than we anticipated. Would highly recommend this tour!
