We booked this excursion during a one-day cruise stop in Tangier through Viator after comparing it to similar cruise-line offerings, which were significantly more expensive. Unfortunately, this turned out to be the worst excursion I have experienced in over 20 years of international travel—and much of that is due to clear misrepresentation of the service.
The listing contained contradictory and misleading information. The itinerary repeatedly stated that multiple stops included “free admission,” yet the description suggested otherwise. In reality, key sites such as the lighthouse and Hercules Caves required payment. When this was raised, the operator acknowledged the discrepancy but deflected responsibility, blaming the platform rather than correcting the listing. Since then, the itinerary has been changed—but we took screenshots of the original posting, and other participants had printed copies confirming what was advertised at the time of booking. This is false advertising.
Logistically, the experience was disorganized from the start. The posted start time differed from the confirmed time via WhatsApp, and the tour began even later. Multiple guests were given the same instructions but ended up at different pickup locations. The driver arrived late, communication was confusing, and coordination remained poor throughout the day.
Additional costs were handled in a non-transparent manner. At Hercules Caves, where entry is approximately €8, we were charged $25 per person after the driver exchanged currency. At a restaurant stop, no menus or pricing were provided, yet we were charged $55 for what was described as “service,” despite average-quality food (which also included a hygiene issue). These charges were not disclosed and appeared to follow a pattern.
The Medina portion felt more like being routed through selected vendor shops than a cultural experience. We were pressured to purchase items, rushed when attempting to explore independently, and at times group members were left behind and had to catch up. Historical insight was minimal and not memorable.
Finally, the tour did not end as advertised. Instead of returning us to the original pickup location, we were left in the Medina and told to walk back to the cruise port.
While Tangier is worth visiting, this excursion is not. The combination of misleading advertising, poor organization, undisclosed costs, and lack of transparency reflects a substandard and unprofessional operation. I strongly advise against booking this tour.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are genuinely sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations.
However, we would like to clarify several important points for future travelers reading this review.
First, regarding monument entrance fees: the Hercules Caves and Cap Spartel lighthouse are optional stops managed by local authorities, and entrance tickets are clearly marked as “not included” in the inclusions section of the booking page. We understand there may have been confusion caused by certain wording displayed on the platform at the time of booking, and once this was brought to our attention, we updated the itinerary description to avoid future misunderstandings.
Concerning logistics and pickup coordination, cruise arrivals in Tangier can occasionally present operational challenges due to port traffic regulations and changing docking procedures. Our team contacted guests in advance via WhatsApp with detailed pickup instructions, and despite minor delays caused by port conditions that day, all participants were successfully picked up and the tour was completed as scheduled.
Regarding additional expenses, all optional purchases, restaurant meals, camel rides, and monument tickets are independently managed by third-party vendors and remain entirely optional. Currency exchange assistance was provided only as a convenience for guests requesting help converting cash locally. We do not impose mandatory shopping stops, nor do we receive commissions from guest purchases.
As for the Medina visit, Tangier’s old city is a living commercial and cultural area where artisan shops are naturally part of the experience. Guests are always free to browse independently during designated free time, though group timing must still be respected to ensure the tour operates smoothly for everyone.
Finally, vehicle access near the cruise terminal is occasionally restricted, which may require drop-off within short walking distance of the port entrance.
We fully respect every traveler’s opinion and continuously work to improve our communication and organization. At the same time, we believe this review does not entirely reflect the experience enjoyed by many other guests on the same tour.
We wish you the best in your future travels.

There needs to be a major shake up about meeting points. The meeting point provided in the Viator advertising does not seem to match the actual meeting points to be which are only provided at the last minute. This can be very confusing

While the tour guide was very good, he was nearly an hour late, he said, due to the fact that his company sent him to do a pick up at the airport first. He did his best to show us a good time, but our tour was cut short by the hour he was late, as he had another tour after us.
Penny_T, Mar 2026
We enjoyed getting out of the city to see what is in the surrounding area. The cave was a bit disappointing but we enjoyed the beach camel ride.
Our city guide was superb. Really knowledgable and able to answer all our questions. He was helpful, friendly and respectful.

The tour was exceptional! First with Mohammed to Hercules Cave and the Cap Spartel lighthouse with many sights along the way. Then a walking tour with Moissan (sp?) thru Old Town, markets , Casbah and more. Perhaps one of the best overview of a city ever. Moroccans are friendly and welcoming wherever you go. A fantastic day! Completely worn out in a good way!

I booked this tour offered in English. There were 2 families of four on the van. My family speaks English, and the other family can speak both English and Spanish.
The first part of the tour went to the beach side and included the camel riding. There was no tour guide with us. The driver did speak some English and did basic introduction along the way.
The second part of the tour visited the old town. The driver dropped us there to meet the local tour guide. We found that the local guide speaks very limited English no better than the driver. We then noticed that the tour guide spent most of the time talking in Spanish with the other family and rarely talked to us in English. Sometimes the guide herself would need to ask the other family in Spanish how to explain something to us in English. The folks from the other family were very nice to translate the guide's Spanish to English so that we could barely get minimum understanding of what we were visiting. This significantly hurt our experience, and this was the worst tour experience that I've had on my visits to 60 countries.

Although we booked a private tour for 6 people the tour operator tried to force us on a big group tour but thankfully Mohammad came to our rescue and offered us a private tour as requested and he was a brilliant guide and made our day
Response from Host, Jan 2026
Thank you for your feedback. We would like to clarify that this experience is not a private tour, as clearly stated in the tour description and program at the time of booking.
That said, we are pleased that Mohammad was able to assist you and that you enjoyed the tour with him. Your satisfaction remains important to us, and we truly appreciate you taking the time to share your experience

Youssef was great! Very friendly and knowledgeable and good driving. Great stops and photo opportunities. Martine grew up in Tangiers and gave us a wonderful walking tour through the old Medina, Kasbah and souks, with a fantastic lunch at Vandalucia. Great communication via WhatsApp beforehand. We know exactly who we’re looking for when we got off the train. Highly recommend this tour!
Cory_V, Dec 2025
The first half had us being driven to self guided spots. We would get out and walk around and then meander back to the vehicle. Typical tourist traps. Second half was much better. It was a guided tour of the medina. The guide was very informative and well spoken.
Rajnish_J, Nov 2025
It turns out that the tour is split between a driving tour and a walking tour through busy markets. Understandable. Overall good tour. But here's the SCAM to watch out for..... The driving tour guide ends his part of the tour at a market. There he hands off all the tourists to another person who says he is the guide for rest of the walking tour. That "Guide" takes you to his restaurant and starts bringing all sorts of cheap/mediocre dishes to share between all the tourists on this trip. Then presents a bill of 20 Euros per person. Finally he introduces everyone to the REAL tour guide for the walking tour. Upon questioning, why the hand-off, he confesses that he is only the restaurant owner. So basically, the restaurant was an unplanned, undocumented activity in the itinerary concocted by the 3 "guides" who I bet share the profits from the restaurant money taking venture. Viator needs to take some action here.

You will be driven in a small group in a Mercedes minivan with a knowledgeable tour guide to the various stops. The city tour through Medina and Kasbah is also led by a knowledgeable tour guide. Stylish and professional!
Ulrich_R, Oct 2025
A great day in Tangier. Medina, cave, a camel ride. A fun day with knowledge guide Youssef. I can recommend this tour and the guide
Therese_P, Oct 2025
Mohammad was our driver who handled the first part of the tour. He took us to places explaining what we would see. He was informed and excellent guide. Mohamwis(spelling) was our walking tour guide. He was a walking encyclopedia of tangier. Wonderful tour! He was receptive to showing many places in the area. Understanding all the cultures that settled in Morocco and migrations out at different points was fascinating. This was an excellent tour!
Irina_K, Oct 2025
The tour was good but somewhat disorganized. The tour consisted of 2 parts. The first part was a minivan and driver, Youssef, who was very enthusiastic and helpful but unaware that there would also be a walking portion of the tour following the driving part. As far as he knew the driving part was our whole tour and he would return us to our starting point at the end.
It was only after another person insisted that this was not the tour we had signed up for that he called his office and found out that another guide would be meeting us after the driving portion to take us on a walking tour of the medina.
The second guide was more knowledgeable and informative, and spoke better English but basically said he'll take us wherever we want. Since most people in the group were hungry at this point, he took us to a restaurant for lunch (not included in the price). The restaurant was good but the service was very slow and we were there over 1.5 hours. By the time we finished lunch there was hardly any time left before we had to return to our ship. Also, some of the people on our tour wanted time to go shopping so the guide took us to a spice shop. My husband and I were not interested in shopping so the guide quickly showed us the way back to the ship.
There was no time for visiting the Moshe Nahon Synagogue or the Tangier American Legation Museum as had been promised in the tour description.
We ended up just walking quickly back to the port, which was quite disappointing.
Response from Host, Oct 2025
Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback. I apologize for the disorganization and the experience that didn’t meet your expectations. It’s unfortunate that communication regarding the tour structure was unclear, and that time constraints impacted your visit to key sites. Your comments about the guides, lunch, and the limited time for sightseeing are valuable and will be shared with the tour company to help improve future experiences. I hope despite these issues, you still enjoyed some aspects of your trip. Please feel free to reach out if you need assistance planning a more seamless tour in the future.
Mariia_S, Aug 2025
The tour covers almost all of the main attractions (except the port and the tombs). It’s a good introduction to Tangier and the surrounding area. Transportation was an air‑conditioned minivan, and the driver spoke both English and French. I would have liked more time at the lighthouse and its museum — we only saw them from a distance and couldn’t enter the grounds or the lighthouse itself.
Suzana_B, Jul 2025
Mohamed was excellent and very knowledgable Tour guide. This was one of our best yours in Morocco. He knee history very well and showed us important historical areas, buildings. We had coffee stop and some recommendation for dining. I would definitively ho on s tour with him.
ColleenWalsh_B, Jun 2025
The tour was very good. The van had great air conditioning and the guide brought us all waters and a little gift. Jouseph was very helpful and showed us many of the main attractions. His English was very good but we lost a bit of communication in how long the tour would be and when lunch was going to be. He kept talking about our "tour guide" and it was confusing, because we thought HE was our tour guide. After four hours, Omar took over. He was very helpful but at that point some of the people just wanted to go back to the ship. He was amazing with the left over guests, brought them to a fabulous restaurant and gave them lots of good information. The camel ride was a highlight. Lots of fun but we did have questions about how humanely the animals were treated.
Ellen_L, Jun 2025
First our guide Yousef was excellent. However there some problems: there was some confusion about the length of the tour. In your description of the tour there was no mention that after the bus tour we’d be handed off to a different tour guide (who by the way was mediocre). Also it wasn’t explained what things we would have to pay for ( like lunch and the caves of Hercules) so we didn’t bring euros. Also they weren’t specific enough about where the van would pick us up. However the sites where Yousef brought us were really terrific.
Shelley_D, May 2025
Youssf Nebkhout and Omar Baitar were my tour guides and they were amazing!! Youssf brought great energy with music and his mom’s yummy cookies. Omar took us to this wonderful restaurant. He was very knowledgeable. My mother and I enjoyed the history and winding through the Medina with him and our group.
Lawrence_D, Apr 2025
The driver was nice but couldn’t speak English particularly well. I didn’t comment on any of the things we were going past in the car. That’s OK because he was a driver. It took us to about three places where we could pay to go in and walk around the exhibits.
The guy at the end was very knowledgeable, spoke good English we particularly enjoyed this part of the tour.
The whistling about it was the van they picked us up in. The seats in the van faced each other, instead of all facing forward. This was a problem since the people, and once I over there and could barely see anything except the strangers opposite them. Nobody wanted to sit in those seats and there was some discussion about swapping every time we got in the van. Unacceptable in my view.
I wouldn’t call it a guided tour as only the last couple of hours were guided on a walking tour. A good walking tour as I stated earlier.
Lee_B, Mar 2025
What a fabulous tour. Our morning driver, Mohumand was real treasure. In the afternoon we met our guide, Omar, who took us on a detailed tour of the Medina and Kasbah. The whole experience was outstanding.
Fatima_D, Jan 2025
Great tour and our guide Omar was amazing! A must do is riding the Camels on the beach. Great tour for the Celebrity cruise we were on.
Response from Host, Jan 2025
Thank you for your fantastic review! We're thrilled you enjoyed the tour and found Omar to be an amazing guide. Riding camels on the beach is a highlight! We hope to see you again soon!
Nikith_V, Dec 2024
The tour was great -- very informative with an amazing tour guide. However, it was not the full-day trip that was promised. It was more of a half-day trip, and had I known that I would've paid for the cheaper, similar half-day trips that hit several of the same locations.
Response from Host, Dec 2024
Thank you for your feedback! We're glad to hear you enjoyed the tour and found it informative with an amazing guide. We apologize for any confusion regarding the duration. The tour lasts approximately 6 hours, not a full day, with 3 hours dedicated to Cap Spartel, Hercules Caves, and the camel ride, followed by another 3 hours exploring the Medina of Tangier. We appreciate your input and hope to provide you with an even better experience next time!
David_H, Jul 2024
Absolutely terrific tour. Great guide was fun and answered all our questions. I would strongly recommend
Leslie_B, May 2024
Our tour guide Omir was fantastic. Informative, animated, and made this tour great. We got the flavor and culture of Tangiers and enjoyed the day immensely. From sightseeing to camel riding, it did not disappoint.

My friends and I really enjoyed Muhammad's company as well as his thorough information about Tangier. Muhammad adjusted the program based on what we wanted to see and brought us to great local places in the medina. Muhammad is also very kind! Highly recommend.
Irl_S, Oct 2019
Our tour with Mohammed was well planned and took into account our needs and rainy weather to start. Only suggestion was to pick up at the ship rather than a long walk out of the pier in the rain.
Therese_G, Nov 2025
Very nice visit a lot of things to see a lot of walking I less enjoyed the medina alley small

We have done everything in the program that is already in the description according to the driver and guide, the camel rides you have done more than 5 minutes opposite of what you said you even wanted to go out of the itinerary of the program riding camels so the owner of the camels refused to take you there. And it's already mentioned that the entrance fee to the caves is NOT included, not to forget that we waited for you for more than an hour because you did not set the clock right on your phone considering that you came to a different country...
