We had a 11am pick up time right outside our Airbnb. Our driver’s name was Ken Lee and he was an English and mandarin speaking driver.
It was just a fantastic day the highlight being releasing the lantern in Shifen.
My friends and I enjoyed Ken’s guidance at each location regarding what to do and where to go. And he was great for us in the sense that he left us to our own devices and left us to explore freely.
On the way home Ken also made many recommendations for food for us in the city that weren’t overly hyped that he thought was nicer than some of the overly hyped places to go to.
Thanks Ken for an amazing day!

Jerry was personable and made our day trip very memorable. He showed up on time and gave us insight on the places he took us to.

This was such a great way to see a few different places outside of Taipei! One could easily spend a couple of days exploring all that Jiufen has to offer, but we made the most of our short time there. Our guide was so helpful and informative. SO many food options for lunch! Highly recommend this tour!

George was great in showing us shortcuts to the attractions. He was patient with us and really squeezed in all 4 sites for us to enjoy and free time to explore in Juifen. George is friendly as I highly recommend. His English was superb

Taking this tour with Joanna was terrific. Our first stop was Yehliu geological park. It’s on a beautiful rocky coast where you walk along paths and see not only the Queen’s Head, but many other nature-made sculptures. Joanna skillfully guided us through paths where we got the best views and avoided standing in the lines where most tourists waited. Our next stop was Jiufen, a small former gold mining town on a cliff. Before we arrived, Joanna explained the significance of the town and provided us maps so that we could easily explore it. We ate at the top of a restaurant near the end of the path with an amazing view of the water. Our next stop was Shifen Waterfall. The waterfall and the walk to it are lovely. After that, Joanna took us to the small town of Shifen, where we decorated a lantern and set it afloat in the sky!
Joanna knows all the ins and outs of every place (including where the pristine bathrooms are!). She provided us an excellent description of the history of each area to make the experience even more meaningful. She also bought us a box of our favorite kind of tea. Most thoughtfully, Joanna is a great photographer, and she took many photos and videos of us and sent them to us at the conclusion of our tour. Joanna is energetic, upbeat, and kind. We highly recommend her tour!

We booked a private guided tour and specifically requested a English speaking guide. It was NOT a guided tour. The guy was just a driver and he spoke very little English. There were no explanations of places where we were seeing or recommendations of where we should go. It was pretty much a drop off and pick up service. The driver was nice. However, we were expecting the tour to be guided. It was not worth paying the private tour price. We could've joined the large group tour for the same experience.

We had a great experience with James as he took us to all the amazing places on the private tour. He explained all the geopark rock formations, the history of Juifen and Shifen, the different foods, cultures, and information about the areas. He took pictures of us as a family, gave us details of the different street food, and helped us order. Highly recommend.
Response from Host, Oct 2025
It sounds like James was phenomenal, handling everything from explaining the geopark history and local culture to acting as your personal family photographer and street food expert—we're thrilled he made your private tour such a well-rounded and amazing experience, and we highly appreciate the recommendation!

On a trip to Taipei we wanted to explore a bit further afield so we booked a private guide to take us outside Taipei for the day.
George, our guide for the day was phenomenal; a Taiwanese local, very knowledgeable and a great communicator. He picked us up from our hotel and took us through the countryside to our first destination, Yehliu Geo Park for some rock formations. At lunchtime, George was able to get a reservation at a local seafood restaurant which had a long line due to the holiday weekend. He arranged for us to skip the line. The restaurant served delicious Chinese seafood including some incredible crab and a window view.
From there we travelled to the spectacular locations of Shifen waterfall and Shifen Village where we released a good luck lantern. Our final location was beautiful Jiufen Village.
I can’t recommend this tour with George more highly if you have limited time in Taipei and want to see more than just the city.
Response from Host, Oct 2025
That sounds like an absolutely perfect day trip! We're thrilled we could help you explore beyond Taipei and you had such a wonderful experience.
Thank you for the highest recommendation! We'll make sure George hears about his phenomenal performance.

We had a terrific day with our very friendly and knowlegable guide. Joanna Lin was great. She even provided us with umbrellas when it started to rain. Fortunately, most of the time we could enjoy good weather. The tour was all we expected an more. We especially enjoyed shopping in Jiufen and starting a sky lantern in Shimen. Joanna Lin made sure, we got perfect photos with all family members. Thank you for a wonderful and exciting day!
Response from Host, Oct 2025
We’re thrilled to hear you had such a wonderful day! Joanna Lin will be delighted to know her efforts, from providing umbrellas to capturing perfect family photos, made your tour so enjoyable. Thank you for sharing, and we hope to welcome you on another adventure soon!

Anderson, our guide for the day, was very knowledgeable and a great tour guide. He provided a good mix of guided tour and free time for us to walk around at our own pace. I would take this day trip again and would be happy to have Anderson as our guide again.

The tour itself is a great way to explore Taiwan. It doesn’t take all of your energy since you’ll be able to rest inside the car. Yehliu was interesting because nature can really make unique things. It was nice to see different mushroom rocks all over the geo park. For Jiufen and Shifen, it’s always nice to learn more about history! The waterfall is a beautiful sight to see too. It’s like a mini Niagra Falls.
Hank was our tour guide! He is knowledgeable on the topics he discussed with us and he made sure to introduce all the places we visited, and not only that, he also gave other facts about Taiwan. He also made sure that we’re all accounted for and he made sure that a senior citizen we were with was able to enter and exit the car properly. He is a caring tour guide and we would definitely recommend him.

Great day trip, highly recommend. Very affordable compared to other tours. Expect it to be like having a private driver instead of a tour guide, which was fine by us. Tommy spoke English, he was great!
BETTY_T, Nov 2024
The tour guide was great! He was very attentive and full of fun facts. Going with a tour allowed us to see everything in one day. Otherwise this would be a multi day event.

We had a wonderful experience exploring the different areas outside of Taipei! Each stop is unique and special. Perfect day trip. Gary was also a wonderful guide. He went above and beyond taking many photos of us. He helped us a lot during our time in Taiwan. Make sure to ask for Gary!

We had a wonderful trip with Nina as our guide. She did a great job showing us the beauty of northeastern Taiwan. Thank you, Nina for your kindness and making this tour an unforgettable experience!

George was an awesome tour guide, and his English and Mandarin fluency were very appreciated, since one half of my group spoke English and the other half spoke Mandarin.
We experienced a major, unforeseen downpour and George was very flexible in tailoring our day’s schedule so we could still make the best of the weather and our trip. He even brought us to a local market so we could pick up some dry clothes to change into. It was incredibly thoughtful.
My parents, whom are very hard to please, had a wonderful time. They were born and raised in Taiwan, and still asked George to point out any new places and sights to see. They walked away feeling like they learned even more about their home country.
I highly recommend this tour and hopefully you’ll be lucky to get the same guide that we did!

Louis our operator was very friendly, knowledgeable and a great tour guide. The experience was amazing having a private tour guide that worked on our timetable and also show us some unique things you wouldn’t get if you were on a group tour. The three distinct cities and unique experiences in all were a perfect day and great way to explore Taiwan. We really appreciate Louis and would definitely use him next time we are in Taiwan.

We were very disappointed by this tour. It is marketed as a tour with a licensed English speaking guide. In other reviews I see people saying they received a driver and a guide. We received one person to show us around, Lin. Lin was a great driver but was really nothing more than a driver. We didn’t receive any information that a true tour guide would have given, and Lin I do not believe would qualify as a licensed English speaking guide. He was trying his best and very kind but did not speak English well enough to be a guide. For example before leaving one of the stops we tried to tell him we wanted to get one of the food dishes before we left but he could not understand. He could answer very few of our questions and communication was difficult. We have done many tours all around the world and are very patient when trying to communicate with others with a language barrier, but when it comes down to it he should not be marketed as an English speaking guide, he should be marketed as strictly a driver. This was really not worth $415 for strictly a driver, I regret spending money on this and wish we rented a car on our own.
