What To Expect
Visit the Australian National Maritime Museum at your leisure with your choice of entrance ticket. Choose between the Big Ticket, which includes all seasonal and permanent exhibits, or limit yourself to just the special exhibitions and permanent galleries.
In the permanent collection, you can learn about Australia’s historic connection to the ocean in exhibits that detail stories and artifacts from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, and European explorers, including Captain James Cook. A full-size replica of Captain Cook’s ship The Endeavour, which he sailed to Australia in the 1780s, can be boarded for a hands-on experience of an 18th-century tall ship. Other galleries look into subjects such as immigration, naval defense forces, sailing and surfing.
The collection includes several historic vessels that berth at the docks located in the outdoor section of the museum. Depending on the day of your visit, you may find one or more ships available to tour: the HMAS Onslow, a submarine from the Royal Australian Navy; the HMAS Vampire, the last remaining big gun ship in the nation; and the tall ship named The James Craig, which took 30 years to restore and is one of the world’s few remaining 19th-century barques that are sea-worthy.

Very educational. Excellent for kids. Volunteers were exceptional. Beautiful views of the harbor. Viator pricing gave discount over regular ticket price.
Great attractions outside ashame about inside, passenger liner exhibits highly disappointing along with rest of inside of museum needs a good update.
What a fantastic day we had exploring the ships and internal displays. The volunteer guides were full of stories which added wonderful personal dimensions to the exhibits. Fantastic value
Saw this from the Big Bus and decided to explore. Really glad we did. The submarine and tall ships were great as were the exhibits inside. 2 to 3 hours depending on how much you want to explore and read.
What an amazing museum! Great exhibits, ships and submarine to explore. Even on a busy day it didn’t seem crowded.

Very interesting museum. My wanna be pirate kid loved being able to explore the Endevour. It was cool to see all the different boats & learn about them at the Mu Sea Um.
Well worth the entrance fee and the natural world photographs were worth the entrance fee alone. And info on Australia part in winning WWII
Great day of exploring, so many things to see. Outdoors there are many boats to explore, from the replica Endeavour to a submarine. Very well curated and volunteer guides were friendly and knowledgable. Highly recommend.

An American Submarine Tender was tied up.
It was very awesome and I loved the HMAS VAMPIRE, bring a hat and sunglasses because it can get very hot outside
I was pleasantly surprised by this maritime museum. There were so many things to see and do. I especially enjoyed the vessels to board and look around. I would definitely go back!
Loved all the information there along with the ships that were there to tour.Really enjoyed Captain Cook replica of Endeavor. We spent the entire day there.
It is a wondrous museum. Don't miss touring the submarine (go early to avoid lines), the Capt Cook exact replica ship, "Vampire", James Cameron special exhibit, etc. Grab lunch in the cafeteria overlooking the museum marina and harbor skyline.
Easy to walk around- ramps & lifts. Historic ships, submarine & the Titanic expeditions amazing. Great place for children. Many interactions for the children
We enjoyed comparing the USA navy to the Australian navy. The tour guides were prior Australian military that were on the ships that was being used for the museum. I found this super cool to hear their real life story.
Both naval and indigenous marine artifacts. Also, there is a very interesting exhibit about all the children and war survivors that were sent to Australia.
Lots to see at this museum. There were three ships and a submarine that you can go through in addition to the museum. Great to be able to see how people live on these vessels. Highly recommended.
Great day at the museum. Enjoyed every minute of it. The submarine was especially interesting. Hard to believe those fellas could live in such tight quarters!

I don't get excited about museums but I did enjoy this one. The tour of the submarine, destroyer, and patrol boat was very interesting. the exhibits inside were well worth while.
We enjoyed this museum. We went to see a movie and thought it would be an IMAX movie but instead it was a regular movie wearing 3D glasses.

Went to this museum with my two teenage daughters. It was very interesting. We walked on the destroyer and the submarine. The ship we enjoyed the best was Captain Cooks. It was so fascinating. We toured the museum after.
Really enjoyed the vessels, the Endeavour , submarine and war ship. Well worth a visit. We also went up the lighthouse which gave fantastic views. The volunteer guides were excellent and very knowledgable. It wasn't too busy the day we went so we were also able to wander around the museum building itself in our own time and take everything in.
