Itinerary

Make your own way to meet your guide at a conveniently located bike shop in Siem Reap. After introductions and a safety briefing, your guide helps you to get outfitted with a high-quality mountain bike and helmet before setting out towards the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Angkor complex.

When you reach the entrance to the park, your guide helps you to purchase an Angkor Pass, which provides admission to the Angkor Archaeological Park. Then start at the famous Angkor Wat, a majestic 12th-century complex with several intricately carved stone temples that illustrate the Hindu epic, the Ramayana.

Next, follow the main road to Angkor Thom, passing stone sculptures of expressive divinities and demons. Visit Bayon Temple and admire its stone towers topped by smiling bodhisattva faces. Then wheel over to the nearby Terrace of the Leper King, Terrace of the Elephant and Royal Enclosure. Later, visit Ta Prohm, renowned for its otherworldly landscape of tall trees and sprawling root systems growing out of the temple ruins.

Throughout the day, bicycle at a leisurely pace with plenty of stops for photo ops and temple exploration. Expect to cover approximately 15–18 miles (25–30 km) on mostly flat paths and small roads; some dirt trails are unsuitable for beginning riders. Your tour includes refreshments and a tasty lunch of Khmer cuisine.

On your return in the late afternoon, pedal through small villages where you get a glimpse of rural life, before ending your tour back in Siem Reap.

Excellent way to get an introduction to Angkor. Our guide was called Wich and he was knowledgeable and very helpful. Very warm day so hard work by the end but would definitely recommend this. FYI we are in our 50s.

A must see

Steven_L, Sep 2024
Taking a bike off the main roads and through the countryside is the best way to explore this vast, beautiful community. Sunchen was a wonderful tour guide. He has vast knowledge of Cambodia's history. As we strolled through the temples, he explained everything in detail. I especially enjoyed exploring the carvings of the temples and hearing about the stories carved into the walls. Since Covid, Siem Reap and much of Cambodia are still not fully recovered and are waiting on the tourism community to return. I was honored to be here and do my small part in supporting the community and the people who made my stay unforgettable. Most of the temples were quiet and nothing like the crowded tourist spots shown on Google. The pictures and videos I was able to capture on this tour show a much quieter side of this historic community. Do not question going to Cambodia and supporting it!

Response from Host, Sep 2024

Thank you for your heartfelt review! We’re delighted to hear that your bike tour through the Cambodian countryside was such a memorable experience. It’s wonderful to know that Sunchen’s extensive knowledge and detailed explanations made your exploration of the temples so enriching. We appreciate your support for the local community and are glad you were able to capture the quieter, more serene side of Siem Reap. Your positive impact and encouragement for others to visit Cambodia mean a lot. Thank you for sharing your experience and for contributing to the recovery of this beautiful area.

Amazing Adventure through the treasures of Angkor Park

Michael_R, Apr 2024
The Siem Reap bike tour was a highlight of our 6 week trip. Chen, our guide, played a critical roll in this. He brought us on what felt like a personalized adventure through hidden treasures of the Angkor park. He provided tons of interesting information about the history of Cambodia and each of the temples, while also giving us space at times to explore on our own. It was the perfect balance.

Response from Host, May 2024

Informative and Active, but maybe too long?

RE_S, Apr 2024
Really terrific, lively and kind tour guide with a wealth of historical info about Angkor, Siem Reap, Cambodia and the whole region. Just enough temples and fruit break and lunch were quite good. But bike routes between temples seemed longer than necessary, and alot of the dissertation should have been done while walking to each site. From 7:30AM to later in the day it becomes impossibly hot, making the transit uncomfortable at best, and even dangerous for dehydration reasons (although we did not lack water provided by the tour.) I would recommend a shorter more compact loop of closely clustered temples earlier in the day for the less athletic tourist like me.

Response from Host, May 2024

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We're glad to hear that you found our tour guide to be terrific, lively, and knowledgeable about the history of Angkor and the region. We're also pleased that you enjoyed the fruit break and lunch provided during the tour. We appreciate your feedback regarding the length of the bike routes between temples and the timing of the tour, especially considering the heat. Your suggestion for a shorter, more compact loop of closely clustered temples earlier in the day is valuable, and we will certainly take it into consideration to improve our tour offerings for guests who prefer a more leisurely pace. Thank you again for your review, and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back for another memorable experience in the future.

Highly recommend - sign up for this tour!

RaNaye_C, Mar 2024
This was an excellent tour, and I would absolutely do it again. Our guide, Chen, made the whole thing wonderful, and talked to us about the history of the country. It was really interesting and enjoyable. We got to see much more than what we would’ve seen on a bus tour. I highly recommend the tour and Chen as a tour guide. I would not only do this tour again, but I would sign up for any tour that Chen was leading - very knowledgeable, personable, and fun.

Response from Host, Mar 2024

The perfect way to explore Angkor Wat with a wonderful guide

Niels_G, Jan 2024
This tour was the perfect way to explore Angkor Wat, and its surrounding temples and area. In between temples, we cycled through some forests as well as over some asphalt streets. Our wonderful guide Pat managed to steer us around most crowds and we could explore most areas in relative peace and quiet. Pat explained lots about the temples overall and specific decorations and reliefs in particular, as well as the past and present restoration efforts. He also shared stories about life in Cambodia in general and expertly fielded all our questions. From appropriate cycling speeds to taking pictures for us, providing delicious snacks and lunch, and making sure we didn't ride into low hanging branches on the off-road sections, we felt wonderfully taken care of at all times. We never felt rushed and ended the tour with big smiles all around. For first time visitors to the area, we highly recommend this tour, as it provides much more intimate access than the typical bus drops. Thank you Pat for the amazing day which we will fondly remember for many years to come!

Response from Host, Jan 2024

Dear Niels_G, Thank you for sharing your fantastic experience on our Angkor Wat cycling tour! We're thrilled that Pat, our guide, made your exploration memorable. Your appreciation for the personalized experience, from avoiding crowds to Pat's expertise, means a lot. We're grateful for your recommendation. Looking forward to welcoming you back for more unforgettable adventures! Best, Rocky

Guided Angkor Temple Bike Tour

Maria_E, Jan 2020
Country side bicycling showing real life and housing. Nice local lunch. Temple visits with beautiful sights and interesting facts and storytelling by our guide Samnang Chan. Excellent way of spending a day

Great Day

Lindsaynoyes, Oct 2019
We rode with Chen and some lovely travelers to 3 temples. Chen was a very informative guide - he knew a ton about the temples and shared with us some key insights to understanding current Cambodian culture. Highly recommend!

Awesome way to see the temples!

Zoe_P, Sep 2019
We are so happy we took this tour! Biking turned out to be a phenomenal way to see the temples because we saw the countryside all around them, more than if we had taken a bus. Biking through the very large, impressive gates on either side of the temple complex was an experience I won’t forget! And the exercise was also nice! Our tour guide was very informative and happily answered our many, many questions (we’re history buffs). I would do this tour again tomorrow if I could!

Excellent bike tour of Angkor Wat

Donald_S, May 2019
Our leader knew the bike-friendly roads and trails to take us to Angkor Wat. He also filled us in with a lot of the history of the temple complex. The weather was very hot but he helped refresh us with a good lunch and cool drinks. The chilled coconut juice when we returned was an unexpected delight.

Just do it.

Fun cycling to the Angkor temples.

Steven_C, Jan 2019
Easy cycling but a lot more fun to go on some back roads to the temples at Angkor than by motor transportation. The tour leaders and guides were friendly and made sure everyone was safe while cycling. It was a great way to spend a day in Angkor Wat.

It was fun and I enjoyed it immensely - my favorite of my Siem Reap experience. I loved the trails we went through and the pacing was okay. Just make sure your body's up to the biking : I highly recommend it to the adventurous. Cheers!

This tour was great for us, a family of four with two boys 11 and 13. Pretty hot but enjoyable and such a great way to see the area around Angkor Wat. We rode through peoples’ farm yards and saw areas that we would not have seen without the bicycles. Thank you to our guide ”We” for taking care of us

EXCELLENT TRIP! Highly recommended...

NIVEDITA B, Feb 2018
EXCELLENT TRIP! Highly recommended. From the time we reached the office, the entire process was very well managed we got water, the bikes were labelled with our names and set to our height. We then rode to get our tickets, which was a smooth 1min process at the counter. From then the ride actually started. The initial section was a regular tar road, but then we moved in to the forested area. So be aware that you will be biking through sand/bumpy roads too. There was a guide at the front and back, both VERY VERY helpful and appreciate all that they did for us on the trip. Wonderful way to be up and close to nature and see the temples. We had ample time to see them too with inputs on history from our guide it was not rushed. Lunch was AMAZING! Even when the tour ended back at the office, we were given coconut water, which was a total surprise and a wonderful treat. Amazing hospitality. Just a note on the weather and road: It will be hot so do come prepared with proper cycling attire hat, sunscreen, and proper shoes. You MAY be tired/knees may hurt due to the sand/bumpy ride in between. But it should be all ok after rest. No worries. Good luck to Grasshopper tours on the amazing work they are doing!

Great tour. A very nice and full day program to see a number of the greatest temples. Lunch and fruit stops are includes and the food and fruit are absolutely fabulous. The guide was great and had heaps of knowledge. The second guide was always around to keep people safe. This is a very professional and well thought out and very well executed tour. These company and these people deserve some serious stars for what they offer. Absolute firm recommendation.

This tour allows you to see part of Siem Reap you won't see by car. Cycling off road through wooded areas and finding temples along the way. The views are break taking and the temples u see are amazing. Our guide was very informative and friendly. Stopped for lunch midday and was given water.

Sarah R, Dec 2017
This tour was according to what was on the description plus during the time of our bike on to the road area, I felt safe with our tour guide, his pace was similar to the local bike riders which was good when you are biking in public. The route was excellent, it was on the country side most often and I feel that we got to see the Angkor Wat more than as a tourist. The bikes were fully maintained, I felt that the mountain bikes shocks are according to the road's condition. If it was compared to the bike tour in U.S.A. it was safe and he used the correct hand signals and oriented us with the hand signals and pace was for safety and not for speed of pure leisure. We had fruit snack right on time just before I felt I was bonking Lunch was very tasty Water cold was provided through out our ride Temple Tour inside met the expectation A refreshing cold fresh coconut drink and cold towel was provided when we got back at the office. All else, this tour provided more fun to me and felt safe.

Alexandria N, Nov 2017
I went on this tour with three friends and we all loved it. It was extremely well organized. Definitely not for someone who is not in moderately good physical fitness because we biked 20km to the three sites. Lunch was enjoyable with plenty of options to buy souvenirs along the route. Tour guide was funny and very knowledgeable. I not only got to enjoy the temples, but get there quickly and efficiently with nuggets of wisdom from a local. I would definitely recommend doing a tour of the temples this way! Make sure to wear something practical because you will be biking through trails in the woods and pants I bought in country ripped! Other than that, we had a great time.

Karl B, Nov 2017
This was an excellent tour from start to finish. Well maintained bikes, knowledgeable guide, good route that minimized road travel as much as possible and provided for some great jungle riding / trail riding. The morning flew by and after a generous and delicious lunch we saw another temple. The only thing I could think of to improve this tour would be to do Angkor Wat last so it ends of a truly wonderful highlight. The last little touch of getting to keep the water bottle was a really nice gesture and great memento of a great trip!

Our cycle trip to the Anghor archaeological area was very well organised and executed. Our guide Chen and his assistant and mechanicwere punctual, competent , kind and patient. The tour itself was well paced and gave us the opportunity to cycle through villages and green areas on the way to the temples. It was a full day but with time to walk around, take photos and ask questions and to Enjoy good local food for lunch. Definitely to be recommended.

This was a fabulous trip. It was very well organised from start to finish. We were cycling on a day when the temperatures reached 35 degrees but we were supplied with regular fresh water and an excellent stop for a very generous lunch. The guide was very informative. At the end of the trip we were greeted with a very refreshing coconut to drink from. I was travelling alone so I welcomed the company of some excellent people on this trip.

Geoffrey_M, Sep 2017
This was a great day tour, well organised and both friendly and helpful staff. Some of the riding was a little challenging but not over the top and both my wife and I had a ball. Our guide Samie looked after us and provided excellent commentary on the temples. Have no problem recommending Grasshopper Adventures.

Deb D, Aug 2017
Six of us, plus our guide,Chen, set off on this tour of three temples. We started with the iconic Ankor Wat, the largest religious monument in the world. Chen was incredibly informative with regard to the history of not only the temples, but the country as a whole. This gave real depth to the tour experience as opposed to just wandering about solo and taking a few photos. There were plenty of stops, including a delicious lunch where we were invited to order anything from the menu, plus grab a beer if we wanted. It was amazing to cycle off road through a forested area to emerge at the last temple ruin where huge trees had overgrown the structures. The cycle ride was not too arduous even though it was an all day tour. Was the highlight of an all too brief Siem Reap visit.

We really enjoyed this tour, the tour guide Sam was very good and knowledgable. Program was very well set up, riding through the jungle, villages and rice fields was the highlight with quite a few stops along the way. Lunch was great with the locals. Fantastic inside view of the temples. An experience that we will never forget and would highly recommend it.

Roni G, Jul 2017
The bike tour was pretty awesome, the guide was knowledgable and friendly and the sights were really worth seeing. We had 2 flat tires and a broken chain 3 out of 6 travellers and some squeaky brakes... which means maybe the bikes should be maintained better. But other than that, it was a lot of fun and a great way to explore the different temples. We had to ride through the jungle in heavy rain - very exciting adventure, but maybe not suitable for the faint hearted : so check the weather before booking.
