Tom is an incredible tour guide who's English was incredible. He provided good onsite on the culture and made this a very memorable experience. Thank you for making Tom available for this trip

Our tour guide for the Tonlé Sap Lake and Kampong Phluk village trip was Tom. He was very knowledgeable about the lake’s ecosystem, the seasonal changes, and the daily lives of the floating‑village communities. He explained everything in clear English and was happy to answer all our questions, which made the tour both enjoyable and educational.
He was also very considerate and adaptable—checking in on us, adjusting the pace of the visit, and sharing interesting local stories and cultural insights. The boat driver he worked with was safe and professional, so we felt comfortable at all times. Thanks to our guide, this half‑day trip turned into one of the highlights of our stay in Siem Reap and gave us a much deeper appreciation of Tonlé Sap Lake and its people.

Pon was a good tour guide. Interesting experience. Lots to learn. Bus was decent. The floating restaurant was a cool experience.

Great trip with Pon - very knowledgeable tour guide and was always smiling! was humbling to see the local village. We went in dry season unfortunately so couldn’t see as much of the water village boating experience but walked around to see. Restaurant area for sunset was very nice to watch.

We had a great time on this tour! Was very interesting to see the village! Tom was a great guide, so passionate and lovely.

The private tour was conducted in the morning, unlike the sunset trip earlier, this was about exploring the village from the river side, walking below stilt homes, taking to people doing their daily chores, having to see crocodiles in floating restaurant, seeing the mangroves up close and talking to boatmen. Excellent guide and overall experience

Chout was an absolute standout—energetic, funny, and incredibly knowledgeable. He gave us a real insider's view of life in this stilted fishing village outside Siem Reap, explaining everything from daily routines to how the community adapts as the Tonle Sap River rises seasonally, requiring those tall stilts.
We walked right through the village, watching residents go about their authentic daily lives. It felt genuine and immersive—adorable kids playing nearby and even attending English school added such a heartwarming touch. This was the true highlight: learning what village life is really like.
We capped it off with a boat ride across Tonle Sap Lake to a floating restaurant for sunset views. The scenery was nice as the sun dipped below the horizon.
One tweak: We spent a bit too much time at the restaurant, so I'd suggest starting later or planning dinner there to fill the time better. Also, wear closed-toe shoes—the paths have loose dirt and rocks.
Overall, this was an enjoyable, educational escape from the temples. Highly recommend for anyone in Siem Reap!

Great experience, very eye opening. Tom was fantastic. Probably one of the best experiences I had in Cambodia.

We had an amazing time on our tour of the Kampong Phluk stilts home village on the Tonle Sap. We were picked up promptly from our hotel and returned after the tour. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and took time to explain the way of life of the communities living around the Tonie Sap.
We thoroughly enjoyed our boat trip on the lake with a stop on a floating restaurant to watch the sunset. We highly recommend this tour.

This was an extremely unique tour, and is highly recommended. Bory (AKA Tom), from a village about two and a half hours away, was our tour guide. He is quite knowledgeable about the local village. It may be helpful to bring hand wipes and sanitizer.

Pon was an excellent tour guide, we learn a lot about the floating viilage and did the canoe ride. I highly recommended Mr Pon for a tour guide. We had lots of fun!

Chout shares a lot of information about the floating village. It really is a sight to see in person. The will of the people who live there is strong. The water was very low so the village was very dry. Sad to see all the boats that are no longer in service since Covid. Thank you for a great afternoon.

Well rounded tour, super patient with the group. Seen the side of Cambodia a lot of tourists don’t get to see
Armando_M, Mar 2026

We went during the dry season, but it was still a great experience. Tom was our guide and was easy to understand and very informative. We got to tour a house that Tom knew the owner, which was a bonus I wasn’t expecting. We opted for the extra canoe ride through the trees. The restaurant was peaceful with plenty of shade and despite the heat was very pleasant with the breeze. Tom was awesome and funny.

We booked this tour last minute for our last free day in Siem Reap. We were treated to an amazing tour of the town and even got to witness a wedding going on. The boat ride out to the lake was picturesque, and the canoe ride was the icing on the cake. Pon was an amazing tour guide and so gracious in providing pictures of us whenever we wanted. Tour guides are so important in making an excursion memorable, and we are so glad we got to experience ours with Pon! Book this tour for a great day trip to do something different!

We booked this trip having read a number of reviews. It’s a group tour, with 17 people on a bus for around 45 minutes. If you have the opportunity for a private tour, I would opt for this as being part of a group does mean a number of pick ups along the way and you follow the itinerary with no flexibility to do anything at your leisure, which is the beauty of a private tour. The village is so interesting and puts things into perspective. It’s easy to take the simple things like food, water, education etc for granted. There are many children selling brackets for one dollar.
It was the dry season so the houses are not on water, as described (we probably should have done more research), however, it’s still interesting to see. The boats go down a river and you have the opportunity to go into the mangroves on a small boat for an additional $11. You are then taken to a lake (looks more like the sea) and you can buy drinks and food if you wish whilst you await the sunset. There are many boats pulling up so it gets a little busy. All in all, worth a visit, however, opt for a private tour if possible.

The walk through the village and the boat ride were interesting, however the canoe ride and sunset viewing were the highlight. The food on the floating restaurant was very good..

Visiting Tonle Sap Lake was nothing short of magical. The vast waters, the floating villages, and the serene beauty of nature created an unforgettable experience. What truly made the journey extraordinary was our guide, Mr. Poun. His deep knowledge, warm personality, and genuine care transformed the trip into something far more meaningful than just sightseeing.
He didn’t just explain the history and culture—he helped us feel it. Every detail he shared carried a sense of pride and love for his community, and his kindness made us feel welcomed at every step. Thanks to him, Tonle Sap wasn’t just a lake we visited, but a living story we became part of.
If you’re looking for an experience that touches your heart and stays with you long after, I can’t recommend Tonle Sap Lake—and Mr. Poun as your guide—enough. It was inspiring, sweet, and simply awesome.

We had a wonderful tour today with Tom. He told us so much about the village and the daily life. Our boat driver was wonderful and we had a peaceful canoe through the mangroves. We ended up at a floating restaurant enjoying a beer while watching the sunset - perfect. Thanks Tom!
