Off-peak January

John_L, Jan 2026
Good tour of the sites. Doing it solo and off-peak season, so it ended up being a private tour. Many of the sites were still crowded. However, it moved to my pace. We were able to finish in under 4 hours. Guide was knowledgeable and friendly. January is cool for walking, but would like that over the heat of summer.

Unforgettable

A trip to Shanghai offers a dynamic mix of ultra-modern skyscrapers and historic charm, allowing you to stroll the iconic Bund for stunning skyline views, explore serene traditional gardens like Yu Garden, and experience vibrant street life. You can also delve into the past in the French Concession, savor world-class cuisine, shop in bustling markets, and enjoy diverse nightlife. With efficient transportation and a vast array of attractions, Shanghai provides a captivating journey through both ancient and contemporary China. Key

The first three activities were great. The silk factory was not for me.

Bring water with you. The weather was so hot. I felt the tour of the garden could had been shorter. The bound was great. The tour person knew a lot of facts.

Great guide

Shanghai tour

Our tour guide John was very knowledgeable and loved how he put stories on every place we visited especially Yu Garden and Bund. We enjoyed all the places and thankful for making our visits in Shanghai memorable.

Questionable business practices

David_M, Sep 2023
The company called less then 24 hours before the tour to ask for more money because they didn't have enough participants. It was too late to get tickets myself so I had no choice. Bad experience.

Nice tour

Shanghai half day tour

F474AYjohnm, Aug 2018
I had arranged a half day tour in Shanghai, China. The driver was to pick us up from the hotel lobby on Thursday, August 16th at 12:30 PM. We were waiting for him in the lobby of the hotel beginning at 12:20 PM. At 1:00 PM he called and asked where we were. I told him we were waiting in the lobby. He then told me that he did not service that hotel. He wanted me to take a taxi to airport. I said no. We were never told that our hotel was not on their list. J.D. McLeod

We would have liked to see more of Shanghai, rather than Jade/Pearl and Silk museum. We booked the trip to see the country not local trades and would have liked to spend more time at these attractions rather than rushing

Great day, all went well, We got to see so much in our very short stay in Shanghai. Everyone was very helpful and the tour guide spoke perfect English. It was extremely well organized and everything went like clockwork. Thank you for making our trip so memorable.

The young man who guided us on this tour was top class. Excellent English delivering explanations at just the right pace. Constantly looked over his shoulder to make sure we were all there. Loved the silk factory and the museum.

David B, Sep 2017
Quite a lot packed into this half day - interesting and gave us a good overview in a brief time. Our guide was a pleasant young woman. The only things I would change would be to ask her to slow her commentary down rather garbled at times and her pace. If a group of other tourists got between us and the guide was difficult to spot her. Otherwise all good.

Cris C, Sep 2017
We were given a terribly inexperienced tour guide. She didn't know how to control or lead a group. It was likely deliberate as well. 80 of the 3 hour tour was spent on pearl and silk shops waiting . We were dumped in the shops to encourage us to spend instead of sitting around. the tour guide was memorizing off a script. She just breezed us through the real tourist destinations we paid for. The most laughable was at Xintiandi. We got off on one side of the district then walked across the shops and restos. Presto, done in 5 mins and we're off back to our hotels.LOL! In the Yuan garden, she just walked and walked and walked without looking back.We lost a nice old lady from New Zealand and had to turn around to look for her. Her husband was frantic. Tour guide just sheepishly smiled when we called her attention : We were a tiny group of 6 people and she just didn't know how to handle a basic tour.

We chose this tour to see temple as and the museum in the morning The tour guide was really ill and should not have started the tour. We were lucky to see the museum but didn't get to see much more as the guide told us he needed to go to hospital and we arranged for the driver to return and pick us up but this did not happen and we had to walk about 5kilometres to get back to our hotel

I enjoyed my tour. My guide was knowledgeable and friendly. The only comment I have about the tour was the museum line was too long so I had to skip that part of the tour. The guide replaced that with another activity to make up for it.

Holly, Jul 2017
This was exactly the type of tour I was looking for, so I gave it five stars! This is a half-day option of a full-day tour, and I'm really glad that I only did the half-day options instead of the full day. I think the full-day is a great option if you prefer guided tours, but it is a long day and can be very tiring, especially during the summer when it's blazing hot. I wanted a tour that gave me a glance at the major sites in Shanghai but lef me time in my day to go explore on my own, so I booked the afternoon tour for my first day in Shanghai, and the mornings no tour for the next day. For the afternoon tour, Frank was my guide, and for the morning tour, Alina was my guide. Both of them were very friendly, patient, professional, and knowledgeable. Both were highly competent English speakers but were also Shanghai locals and were able to speak about their personal experiences growing up in Shanghai and watching all of the architecture shoot up around them. Both of them met me on time in my hotel lobby, and were transparent about the itinerary. I had great conversations with them - they are interested in learning about their tourists so that they can find points of connection for your throughout the tour. The vans are nicely air conditioned! I'm not sure what the maximum size of group they will have on a tour, but when I went on a Wednesday and Thursday, it was just three of us on the first day afternoon and four of us on the second day morning. It felt very private even though it's not advertised as a private tour. No flag, no speakers, highly recommended!

Very friendly and informative tour guide. However, not as well put together as I would have hoped for a half day. Did not get to see the museum because the lines were too long and we got there too late and the half day lasted less than 3 hours because the lack of museum threw off the entire day.

The tour was just the morning...

Michael K, Apr 2017
The tour was just the morning portion of a full day tour. I was the only one taking the half day option. Unfortunately we spent the first hour just going around to pickup the other passengers in their hotels. I was the first pickup. When everyone else had their lunch the bus driver took me back to my hotel in Pudong. The guide was very pleasant and spoke excellent English. I would opt for a full day if possible.
