Dong was a great guide, funny and insightful. Great recommendations throughout the city as well. Highly recommended for everyone!
Response from Host, Mar 2026
Hi Eric, hope you’re enjoying Seoul.
There are actually a lot of fun spots here that people don’t always know about. Hope you make some great memories before you head back.
Looking forward to seeing you again.
Hannah_E, Feb 2026
Dong gave us a really fun and interesting tour of the Bukchon area. Since he’s from the neighborhood, he added personal stories and local details that made the walk feel special. The pace was nice and easy, so we never felt rushed. We had a great time and would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Bukchon!
Response from Host, Mar 2026
Thank you so much for the kind review! I’m really glad you enjoyed the walk through Bukchon and the stories about the neighborhood. It was a pleasure touring with you!
Huong_T, Nov 2025
I had an amazing time on the tour! Our guide grew up in the neighborhood and it really showed, he shared so many fun facts, personal stories, and local insights that brought the area to life. The tour was engaging from start to finish, and I walked away with a much deeper appreciation for Bukchon’s history and culture. Highly recommend!
Response from Host, Nov 2025
I had a great time too.
If you ever get a chance to visit Seoul or Korea again, let me know before you come. I’ll make sure to recommend some must-see places for you.
Fall is almost over here, and we’ll probably see the first snow soon.
Wishing you lots of health and happiness, always.
Lisa_S, Oct 2025
Excellent tour. Wonderful guide. Love that guide grew up in neighborhood and had stories to link past and present. Nice pace. Relaxing pace. Didn’t feel rushed. Highly recommend.
Response from Host, Oct 2025
Hi Lisa! I’m so happy to hear you enjoyed the tour. If you ever come back to Korea, I’d love to help plan your trip — I know plenty of hidden spots most tourists never find. And if I ever visit your place, I’ll be sure to say hi. Take care and stay well!
Adam_B, Sep 2025
Personalized tour with insightful local expert! I would recommend to anyone looking to book a bukchon tour.
Response from Host, Sep 2025
Hey guys,
Hope you made it safely and are having a fun time on your next stop! It was really great catching up with you all and enjoying the Bukchon tour together after that long hot summer. I’ll make sure to check out the spots you recommended on my business trip too. Stay well, and let’s meet up again when you’re back in Seoul!
Virginia_J, Jul 2025
Dong was a wonderful guide, we had a great experience! I highly recommend this tour! He lived in Bukchon as a child, so he has knowledge and personal experience that other guides might not have.
Response from Host, Jul 2025
Thank you so much for the lovely review! Seoul was incredibly hot in July, but the temperature has started to drop a bit since yesterday, Sunday. I'm taking a short break and getting ready for tours again. Stay healthy always, and hope to see you again in Seoul someday. Take care!

Dong was an amazing guide in Bukchon today.
His vast knowledge of the area - he grew up in Bukchon - coupled with his enthusiasm for the culture makes this a must see tour. We toured palaces and listened to not only historical knowledge of the Joseon period but Dong was able to deliver specific tales of the daily life of the palace itself. It pays to have a guide with this experience. Do yourself a favor and choose the craft option as well for this tour. I was able to make a “Hopae” with a local artisan and now - if I’m ever thrown back to the Joseon Dynasty, like in the K-Drama “Mr. Queen” - have proper identification. 😁 Thanks again, Dong, for an informative tour of your neighborhood.
Response from Host, Jun 2025
Hey John,
I'm so happy to hear you enjoyed the tour!
Hope the rest of your time in Seoul goes smoothly and is full of great experiences. Let’s definitely look forward to crossing paths again. I'm also working on some new and fun tour programs, so you can expect even more next time.
Take care and see you again soon! 😊
Lindsey_D, Jun 2025
We had an excellent time with our guide showing us Bukchon and the surrounding area. We loved making the traditional Hopae tags and learning about his time growing up in the town.
Response from Host, Jun 2025
I was wondering if you've been enjoying your journey through Korea.
I had a tour this morning, and the weather is starting to get quite warm.
I hope you and your family stay safe and healthy for the remainder of your trip.
If you return to Seoul, I’d be very happy to see you again.
JohnMa, May 2025
This tour was a valuable opportunity to speak with someone who personally grew up in the area in the not-too-distant past. Dong has a wealth of first-hand knowledge and anecdotes about what the neighborhood was like (before its relatively recent transformation into a popular tourist destination) and the dramatic changes that have occurred over the years. Would recommend booking this excursion if you're interested in digging deeper into the history, culture and daily life of the area.
Response from Host, May 2025
Thanks so much for leaving such a lovely review after the Bukchon tour—it really means a lot.
Honestly, there’s so much more to see in Seoul beyond Bukchon—so many places full of history, culture, and charm.
If you ever come back to Seoul, I hope you’ll reach out. And if I ever make it to the Bay Area, I’ll be sure to get in touch too. Take care and stay well!
Marguerite_D, May 2025
Dong was an excellent guide! Extremely knowledgable and personable. It really was a "hidden" tour that included much quieter (and still important) features in Bukchon.
Response from Host, May 2025
Hi Marguerite, I had such a great time too. I'm not sure how long you'll be staying in Korea, but there are still so many hidden gems here that most people don’t know about. Just reach out anytime — I’d be happy to recommend some spots based on what you’re into. Take care and stay well!
Sara_R, Apr 2025
What a fantastic walking tour of Bukchon! Without our guide, Dong, I would’ve totally missed out on the fascinating stories and hidden gems behind the traditional architecture. His insights brought the neighborhood to life in a way that made every alley feel like a time machine. If I get the chance, I’d love to come back on my own, soak in the atmosphere, and enjoy a quiet cup of tea somewhere in this beautiful place.
Response from Host, Apr 2025
I'm really happy to hear you enjoyed Bukchon. Just a couple of days ago, I also did a tour there on a rainy day—walking around with an umbrella was a bit tricky, but it actually made the charm of Bukchon even more special. I hope you have a wonderful rest of your trip, and if you have the time, I definitely recommend visiting a temple in the Korean countryside. Hope to see you again soon. :)
Alexis_C, Apr 2025
Donghwan was a top guide 🌟, he introduced me, through stories, not only the “back in the day” Seoul but the new-vibrant one.
Also he gave me extra recommendations and tips to keep enjoying the city according my interests. Plus a short-film to watch during my flight home 🌝✨
감사합니다 🙏
Response from Host, Apr 2025
Did you get back home safely? I’m curious how you spent your time in Seoul after the Bukchon tour.
Spring is in full bloom here now, with cherry blossoms everywhere. If you ever get the chance to visit Seoul again, I’d recommend coming in April-May or September-October — it’s really beautiful during those times. Take care and stay well, always.
Oh, and by the way — was the movie too scary for you? :)
Holli_D, Apr 2025
The tour guide for this tour is Dong and I really enjoyed having a personal tour of Bukchon Hanok Village and the surrounding areas. I learned a lot on this tour about the history of the area, but what also made this tour unique is the inside perspective of someone who grew up in this area and it has been rapidly changing overtime.
Dong was great at answering my questions and so I highly recommend people take this tour if they have time!
Response from Host, Apr 2025
Hi Holli, did you get back safely? I once told you that Bukchon was the heart of Korea until the 1980s, and now, in 2025, that has become a reality again. Bukchon is once more at the center of attention for all Koreans, as the nation awaits a ruling from the Constitutional Court located there.
I hope I was able to spark your interest in the history of Bukchon and help deepen your understanding. If you ever get the chance, I hope you’ll visit Seoul often and experience the depth of Korean culture. Let’s definitely meet again someday.
Amy_C, Mar 2025
It was the most informative and enjoyable time I had during my tour in Korea. The tour guide told an interesting story about the area's history, and it was so fun that three hours flew by. Since the tour guide grew up in Bukchon, he told a vivid story that no other guide could tell. If various attractions were added in addition to Bukchon, I would definitely participate every time I come to Korea. Thank you!
Response from Host, Apr 2025
I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed the tour—it truly means a lot to me. Thank you!
If you and your husband ever have the chance to visit again, I’d love to take you on another wonderful tour. Wishing you both a beautiful and happy married life once again!
Donna_P, Mar 2025
A lovely low key walk with a former Bukchon resident. So interesting to hear about the neighbourhood from someone who grew up there. Was so helpful - giving us tips about how to get around the city and making a call to confirm an appointment. Highly recommend!
Response from Host, Mar 2025
Thank you so much for joining the tour and for your kind words! I had a great time walking through Bukchon with you. Hope our paths cross again someday!
Vittorio_E, Mar 2025
Walking through Bukchon in Seoul felt like stepping into the past. I especially enjoyed learning about traditional Korean feng shui—it added a unique perspective to the experience. If you’re looking for a tour with great storytelling and cultural depth, this one is a must.
Response from Host, Mar 2025
Thank you for joining my tour. I'm thrilled you had a great time. Stay well, and if you're back in Seoul, I'd love to have you join my new storytelling tour.
Isabelle_A, Mar 2025
Before I joined an Old Seoul walking tour, I was staying in Gangnam, which is a really modern area of Seoul. The experience was completely different from what I was used to – stepping into a city that felt historic and full of character. I loved the old-world charm and the unique atmosphere. The storytelling added so much depth, making the tour even more interesting and engaging. It was a great way to see a different side of Seoul, and I'd highly recommend it!
Response from Host, Mar 2025
Did you get home safely? I'm glad you had a good time in Bukchon. Since Seoul is a city with a long history, you can find a lot of really interesting stories and things to see with a little effort. I hope to see you again soon. Take care.
Justin_R, Mar 2025
This was the best tour and experience I’ve had! We had a great time exploring the area. Our tour guide was amazing and very knowledgeable. I would recommend to anyone who wants a fun tour in the area.
Response from Host, Mar 2025
Thank you for joining my tour and enjoying yourself. If you ever come back to Seoul, I'll show you around again – I'll make sure it's even more fun!
Iveta_L, Mar 2025
It was a great tour. The guide led us through his home area with visit to hanok village, explaining the ancient traditions and modern attitudes. It was a pleasant experience I would recommend.
Response from Host, Mar 2025
Thank you so much for enjoying my tour program! I’ll have an even more exciting program ready for next time. Say hi to Linda for me!
David_J, Mar 2025
600 years of history and people in Seoul's Bukchon district and a guide Dong introduced me to many buildings with interesting storytelling and it was very fun. In particular, it was good to see the depth of the history of Seoul, the capital of Korea.
Response from Host, Mar 2025
I’m so happy to share my hometown, Bukchon, with others. Hope you have a fun and healthy trip!
Emily_S, Mar 2025
Among the various stories about Bukchon in Seoul, the most interesting one on this tour was the story about feng shui. It was interesting to learn that feng shui is very important to those who gain power, prosper or destroy a country, and make people die or live. It was a very fun and informative tour.
Response from Host, Mar 2025
I was happy to introduce my hometown, Bukchon. I hope you make lots of great memories in Korea!
Heather_C, Feb 2025
The trip to Bukchon was unexpected and despite the cold weather, I was impressed with the many sights and history explained by our enthusiastic guide Dong.
Response from Host, Feb 2025
I'm so happy you liked the tour. I've wanted to do a Bukchon tour for ages, and now that I've done it, I'm so glad I did. I'll make the tour even more fun and interesting.
Marie_K, Feb 2025
I found it fascinating to learn that almost all of Korea's history has taken place in Bukchon over the past 600 years, and that every building or place name has its own story that only a guide from Bukchon would know. I loved most of the Korean stories and things to see.
Response from Host, Feb 2025
When people go to other countries, they usually go to famous places that tourists like, but when I go abroad, I try to experience as much of the history and culture of that country as possible. That's why the Bukchon tour was designed to satisfy that desire. I want to share the interesting stories and history of my hometown with the people who join my tour. I'm glad you enjoyed the tour. I hope you enjoy the rest of your stay in Korea.
James_O, Feb 2025
This was my first time in Korea, and I had the opportunity to join the Bukchon Alleyway Tour. I thought it would be a great way to experience Korea’s rich history and culture up close.
The tour started at Unhyeongung, where our guide, Dong, shared a fascinating story. A baby born here—not as a prince but as a member of the royal family—eventually became the emperor of Joseon, while his father ruled the country for ten years.
Walking through Bukchon, we encountered architecture spanning 500 years, from traditional hanok houses to modern Korean landmarks. We also saw traces of Korea’s independence movement during the Japanese colonial period. As I wandered through the narrow alleyways, I began to understand why Bukchon is such a symbolic part of Seoul.
What made this tour truly special was Dong’s storytelling. Having been born and raised in Bukchon, he shared stories that you wouldn’t hear anywhere else.
If you want to truly understand Seoul, I highly recommend this tour.
Response from Host, Feb 2025
Thank you for being my guest. For quite some time now, I've had a dream to introduce my hometown Bukchon to foreigners. I've been busy and haven't been able to get started, but I'm determined to do it in 2025, even if it means being busy. I'm especially grateful that you've shown great interest in the history of Bukchon. If you come to Seoul again someday, I'll show you a different side of the city with another story.
