Our guide AJ was absolutely AMAZING!. I’m sure most of the tour guides are great, but her specialty was that she made us laugh and enjoy learning about the history of Korea. Time flew on the bus because we were thoroughly engaged, laughing, and learning. Highly recommend!

We enjoyed the DMZ tour with our guide Yeoni. She provided a good overview of the history and politics of the DMZ, and ensured everyone enjoyed their time. There were beautiful views at the suspension bridge, surreal sights at Dora observatory, and an adventurous hike down into to the 3rd infiltration tunnel. Our favorite highlight was meeting the N. Korean defector - what an unimaginable story! Great tour overall.

Itinerary

After pickup from central Seoul, travel about one hour north to reach the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), a 2.5-mile (4km) wide piece of land that divides North and South Korea.

Stop first in Imjingak, a park with war artifacts and artillery from the Korean conflict. Continue to the Freedom Bridge, where nearly 13,000 Korean POWs were exchanged at the end of the war.

Next up, see the 3rd Infiltration Tunnel, believed to have been built by North Korea for a military invasion. Discovered in 1978, the tunnel was blocked by the South Koreans at the border’s military demarcation line. Afterward, check out artifacts and photographs from the Korean War at the DMZ Museum.

Continue by coach to the Dora Observatory, where you can use the provided binoculars to scope out North Korea. Observe a North Korean model village called Kijongdong as your guide explains the backstory of this surreal border region.

Wrap up your visit to the DMZ by passing the Unification Village, a small farming community that models the daily life of a typical South Korean farm community.

If you choose the half-day tour only, you are dropped off at City Hall in Seoul after a brief stop at a ginseng center en route. The full-day tour visits the DMZ in the morning and then makes a stop at the Majang Late Suspension Bridge or Gamaksan.

Our tour guide was Jun. Jun was funny and informative. Our family had a 7 year old and a 10 year old and they enjoyed the tour and learned a number of things! We all had a great time and consider this one of the highlights of our Korean vacation.

The tour was highly enjoyable, lasting approximately 7 to 8 hours. Our host and guide, Spring, was exceptional. A personal highlight was the Dora Observatory. While the 3rd tunnel presents a challenge, it is a highly recommended experience. Comfortable walking shoes and a small water bottle are advisable. I found the guided experience significantly enhanced, as our guide provided a wealth of factual information, prime photo opportunities, historical context, and engaging trivia.

It’s so much fun!! Felicity, our tour guide, was incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and fun! We got to cross the suspension bridge (which was fun even in the rain), see and go through the 3rd tunnel, the Dora Observatory (seeing North Korea through the binoculars was incredible and so cool), and then the unification village. Overall, 5/5 - my favorite was probably hearing from the North Korean defector and learning her story.

Well organized (whatsapp message from the guide, clean bus, on time, clear explanation) and we had a particularly pleasant tour guide called Eugene. Highlight of the tour from my POV: the Q&A session with a Defector and the observatory. For those reasons, I rated this tour 4 stars. A few points to be noted: the optional stop to the bridge over the forest (same for the other optional stop at the bridge over a lake) is clearly not a must: nothing related to DMZ and nothing so spectacular. I do not recommend this costly option. The last stop of the tour in a civilian village is useless: nothing nice to see, it's just another convenience and souvenir shop. Bottom line, I did visit the DMZ. Would I do it again: no. Content wise, my expectations were higher but no regret, it's once in a lifetime feeling to be in such zone.
