I recently joined the Royal Palaces & Hidden Gems Tour with Stella, and it turned out to be one of the most memorable experiences of my trip to Seoul.

Because of the cold weather, we began our tour at a cozy coffee shop nearby. Lua, our local guide, greeted us with such a gentle, warm smile that it instantly eased the winter chill. While exploring Gyeongbokgung, she shared a wealth of knowledge about Korean history, culture, and food traditions. This was my first time joining a guided walking tour in Seoul. I booked the Gyeongbokgung–Bukchon Hanok Village–Insadong route, and it turned out to be one of my favorite experiences of the trip.
Gyeongbokgung was absolutely breathtaking. I’ve seen photos online, but nothing compares to walking through the palace gates and seeing the mountains behind the traditional pavilions. Our guide, Stella explained the history in a really engaging way—clear, fun, and not too overwhelming. We even caught the changing of the guard ceremony, which felt like stepping back in time.
Walking up to Bukchon Hanok Village was such a contrast. The traditional houses, narrow alleys, and quiet atmosphere made the whole area feel magical. Our guide pointed out small details I never would’ve noticed on my own, like old decorative patterns on doors and the best hidden viewpoints for photos. I loved hearing stories about how this neighborhood has been transformed over the time.
Finally, Insadong was the perfect ending. I enjoyed browsing all the little craft shops and art galleries. The guide recommended a tiny tea house tucked away in a side alley, and it ended up being one of the coziest places I’ve ever visited. I tried a warm cup of sujeonggwa and bought some handmade bookmarks as souvenirs.
Overall, the tour was well-paced, informative, and incredibly fun. I’d highly recommend it to anyone who wants to understand both the history and the modern culture of Seoul. It felt like spending an afternoon with a knowledgeable friend rather than a formal tour. Definitely a highlight of my time in Korea!
