We had in incredible time at Warung Nia! The market trip was really enjoyable - it definitely felt different to learn about the ingredients in the same place they're sold, rather than back at the cooking area. The class has also negotiated favorable prices for many ingredients (many of which are airplane and customs safe) - often 2-3x better than if you tried to purchase them independently. The market is crowded, so like any busy areas watch your bags, and make sure you're keeping the space clear for the regular patrons. We didn't have any troubles hearing our chef's explanations even in the busy market. The chef also provided alternatives to many Balinese ingredients that may be difficult to find in local markets back in your home country, which was also really helpful. The cooking area itself is outside, but covered. There are fans going and water provided, so although it is warm it isn't unbearable. I recommend bringing extra water if that is a concern. Additional drinks (and souvenirs) are available for purchase as well. Lockers (with locks) are provided if you have bags or other personal belongings. The class itself covered ~10 dishes. No one dish is done start to finish (many require several hours of marinating or slow braising), but we got to do a variety of steps that made it feel like a complete experience. We got some snacks (that we made) along the way, but don't eat too many of those! The meal at the end is way more than most tables can finish, and is all delicious. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and will happily answer questions (or jump in to ball you out if you're falling behind). Our favorite dishes to make were the nasi goreng and mi goreng, stir fried in woks over high heat. Don't get too close to the wok, as it can burst into flames (this is a good thing). The staff took photos throughout the event, which we received via WhatsApp - perfect if you're too busy cooking to grab your phone. We walked away with a certificate of completion, a recipe book covering everything we made, and full stomachs. If you somehow have room for dinner, or if you're going to have more time in Seminyak, they also offer a 15% discount (at the time of writing) if class participants come back later. They are known for their pork ribs, that unfortunately we just didn't have the stomach space to try! We would happily do this again and recommend it to anyone who enjoys cooking (and more importantly eating). We had a variety of skill levels in our group, and everyone was able to participate safely and enjoy. We didn't have any children in our group, but there were other tables that did and it looked like the children were able to participate as well.

    Meh.

This wasn't my first cooking class, yet it was the first time I've done one in this instruction style. First, this is a group style cooking/eating; meaning you are jointly prepping shared dishes rather than individual portions (which is what I was used to). I'm personally not a fan because I'm a firm believer that you can't eat at everyone's house. Second, you are partially prepping 9 dishes. Key word, partially. I lost interest half way through because I was watching most of the time and not doing. You'd partially prep something and then the instructors aids would wish the dishes away to finish cooking in their kitchen. Third, the class sizes are massive, talking 20-40 people. Way too large in my opinion. Fourth, you're prepping for 4 hours if not longer. The group was starving since most skipped on breakfast. Finally, the final meal was super underwhelming. Only 1/3 of the dishes were actually tasty. Everything else was bland or super dry.

    Best cooking experience.

It was everything I hoped for and more. We started at the market, to experience the different ingredients and spices, then went back to cook nine dishes. Afterwards we had a fabulous lunch of everything we cooked. Fabulous!

Super fun class. I've done a few cooking classes and the pace of this one was great and I learned a bunch of new tricks!

    Long but amazing!

Be prepared and able to be on your feet for 5+ hours. We arrived at 8am and left just after 1pm. An amazing experience, starting with a market tour, before learning and preparing many dishes. Our head chef was knowledgeable and helpful. Other staff at the restaurant were helpful and friendly also.

    Filled to bursting in Bali

    My partner and thoroughly...

    Jessica_C, May 2025
My partner and thoroughly enjoyed our time here; we made our own way to the Warung and once arrived were given a water bottle each and escorted to the market where we were given an in depth tour of the local food and lifestyle by a personal tour guide. We were escorted back to the Warung where we were taught amongst a group of 8 by Jimmy Reeves. He was very educational and light hearted, held a great atmosphere and was very kind. It was so fun being able to interact with new people from around the world (Jasmine and Jessie from Hong Kong). Trying to cook a new cuisine like Indonesian was awesome. The food was delicious and the staff at Warung Nia were all lovely. Thank you so much for such an amazing experience, I will be recommending this cooking class to all of my loved ones who travel to Bali!

Great class, very organised but very hot!

    Katie_O, Apr 2025
There were two groups of 16-20 people which was larger than we were expecting. Our chef took us to the local market (driven to and from in taxis) which was interesting, although we were two large groups in the middle of a busy market so we were in the way and it was difficult to hear at times. He introduced us to and passed around some of the ingredients we would be using. We headed back and were split into tables of 4-5. All of the ingredients were pre-prepared and the clean up was very speedy. However, the class was about 3 hours and outside with a cover which, on your feet and cooking, got very hot. They had lots of big fans but these had to be turned off when we were cooking on the woks. It was interesting to prepare 10 dishes but we didn't cook most of them, only prepared. There was a recipe book provided with cooking instructions at home. At the end, you sit down and eat the food the class has prepared. There is water provided and taps for hand washing. There was a lot of raw meat and no antibacterial spray used but this is probably a Western hang-up, we just kept going to wash our hands and used our own antibac.

    Expectations Surpassed!

    Michael_N, Mar 2025
This experience not only delivered as promised, but far surpassed my expectations-which were already high based on the description and impressive reviews! Chef Komang and his STELLAR team of prep staff made it not only highly enjoyable, plus a smooth-running “machine.” As we turned to watch a new recipe being demonstrated, we turned back to our workspace and it was cleaned, reorganized, and ready for the next course. As described, we participated in preparing 10, yes, ten unique dishes…then sat down with our fellow chefs to enjoy what we prepared. My advise, (and the advise of countless others) is to skip a significant breakfast and make sure you will be very hungry by lunchtime. But not to worry, appetizer dishes will lead up to the main courses, and nibbling begins a couple of hours after the class begins. Thank you Chef Komang and Team for making the day so fun and educational. We left with full tummies, a complete recipe booklet, and a certificate of completion. A bonus is that friendships were also formed-always a welcomed gift!

Great way to spend some time

    Andre_P, Mar 2025
Was a fun way to pass a few hours. we cooked about 8 dishes along with the fresh pastes. Each meal was taken away by the staff to be finished off while we got onto the net dish. I would have preferred maybe having half the dishes and complete them from start to end. The trip to the market while interesting didn't add to the experience as could have been done on premises and whole class could have been done in 3hrs instead of the 5hrs. Food was amazing and so much of it so make sure to go there hungry.

    Fun experience

Such a great fun experience. Tommy the host was fantastic, made it a really fun time. We cooked 11 dishes and then ate it all at the end. Make sure you go hungry because there is so much food to eat. Fantastic experience

The experience was amazing. The touch of going to the market to see and learn about the ingredients was nice. Our chef was amazing so great to work with and easy to follow. The food was amazing but don’t eat before you go as you will have more than enough food to eat when you get there. Such an awesome experience.

    FANTASTIC FUN CULINARY EXPERIENCE

This is our second doing the Nia Balinese Cooking Class, it is such great value and a lot of fun. Highly recommended 👌

    Fantastic, flavourful, friendly

    Rachel_N, Jun 2024
Nia Cooking Class is a sensational way to productively kill 5 hrs in Bali! It is a cost effective way to gain knowledge, meet new people, learn new culinary skills and feast on top notch flavoursome local food. The class is highly organised and hands-on; everyone getting a starring role at the gas burner. I loved the way Chef Komang was able to wrangle 15 knife- wielding participants and a myriad of fresh ingredients with patience, humility and a wicked dry sense of humour. Highlights for me were: the huge lunch banquet with my table group; keepsake recipe book, and; opportunity to buy ingredients on the local market tour. Highly recommended! Pro tips: have breakfast/coffee before you arrive… plan to stay and shop at the flea market after the class… local ingredients can pass through AUS/NZ customs of contents are sealed & ingredients are written in english.

    Great Cooking Class

Fantastic! Loved the market visit to show us some of the ingredients we would be using. It was incredibly well organised for the cooking class. The teacher shared his great knowledge and skills and we all were able to be part of the preparation/cooking process. So many dishes, so much food and best of all it was so yummy.
