What To Expect

Channel your inner cowboy on a 2.5- or 3-hour horseback-riding trip through the scenic mountain countryside near Sapporo. Best of all you’ll get to experience the glory days of the American West as you start your ride in a simulated Western town, complete with stables and Old West-style wooden buildings.

Begin your horseback riding adventure with a pickup in the early morning in Sapporo by taxi, taking a 40-minute drive to the ride starting point to arrive in the morning. Start your excursion at Mustang Town, a simulated Old West village complete with all the typical structures of a Hollywood-style cowboy town.

Meet your instructor-guide for the day, also known as ‘the Sheriff,’ who will take you through a brief safety lesson, including tips for mounting your horse, holding the reins and tips for turning and stopping. Those with previous horse riding experience can request advanced tips from the instructor.

Then head out for your Wild West ‘patrol’ through the beautiful mountain trails nearby. Depending on the option you’ve selected, you’ll enjoy a 40-minute or 1-hour ride. Pass through picturesque fruit orchards and lush green hillsides along the way. You’ll also be able to spot the area’s unique 8-peak mountain visible in the distance.

Finish your horseback trip with a return by taxi to your hotel in Sapporo.

It was a magical experience. The staff were very friendly and capable with horses. The horse riding lesson was fun and riding out into the forest was memorable.

Scenic ride in the countryside

We took a short drive to the countryside. After a 20 min tutorial on how to directed the horses we went for a slow ride through the cherry orchard and surrounding vineyard. Very safe because there were tenders walking along with us. Enjoyed the whole atmosphere, the people and the scenic ride

After a brief ride in the arena to allow the guides to assess our abilities we went for a good hour-long ride in the neighboring forested hillside area. It was beautiful, the trees provided enough shade that we were protected from the sun and not hot, the trails were not so worn as to be dusty. The guides were very attentive and aware of potential hazards, providing us with a very safe ride. They were very friendly and outgoing. All-in-all an excellent, fun experience. Absolutely would do again.

It was a cold and wet morning when I had my riding tour. I took the shorter duration but it was fun riding again after a long break. My horse named Cindy was a patient lady, though being a Japanese horse, tends to prefer to eat fresh grass rather than dried hay. Next time, I may take a longer duration and trek further afield.

The booking through Viator went smoothly and perfect, first time using their service. The driver was right on time to pick us up at the hotel. The private car was really nice, a higher end model. The driver didn't speak English, but was super kind. We arrived in 40 minutes to Wild Mustangs. We were treated very kindly by the staff and after putting on some insulated pants were up on the horse in no time. We spent about 15 - 20 minutes learning how to ride the horse and then went on our ride. My girlfriend had never been on a horse before, but I had. It was a good experience riding in the snow in Sapporo. The scenery was beautiful. I had imagined riding through fields of snow, but we pretty much stayed on the road, so I was a little disappointed in that, but overall a great experience.

The host and horses were wonderful. The taxi pickup was on time as well. The driver waited till we finished and sent us back to the hotel. Only one thing was I thought I would be riding through the hills and wilderness. Turned out it was just around their designated path. Was fun with the horse but didnt really get to enjoy the nature.
