The tour was absolutely amazing. George was very informative and really took care of us. We had some ideas what we wanted to see (i.e. illuminating fungus) and he knew exactly where to find it. Highly recommend to anyone that’s interested in night forest tour.

This tour was one of the highlights of our trip! Our guide, Vinny, made the experience special. He made every effort to find animals for us to see - a toucan, tarantula, snake, glass frog, stick bugs....and shared interesting information about everything we saw that night. Wonderful experience - thank you!

Thank you so much for the wonderful review! We are absolutely thrilled to hear that our night tour was one of the highlights of your trip.
Vinny is an incredible guide, and he always goes above and beyond to share the magic of the forest with our guests. I will be sure to pass along your kind words to him—he will be delighted to know that spotting the glass frog, tarantula, toucan, and the rest of the night's creatures made such a lasting impression on you.
Thank you for choosing to explore with us, and we hope to welcome you back for another adventure in the future!

This is an easy and entertaining stroll through nature with some fun wildlife viewing. My son and I enjoyed this 2 hour walk through a reserve at sundown and into darkness. It's safe, fairly flat, kid-friendly, lots of little critters and plants - june bugs, fireflies, some worms, a few scorpions, beetles. We went during Easter/Spring Break, and I'd say it felt a bit crowded with too many tours. Some of the guides were loud and I wondered if that affected the animals that appear, or not. Sometimes so many flashlights were up around us that it felt harder to spot things/ the night vision binoculars had white outs. That said - We saw a tarantula, many large wolf spiders, leaf cutter ants, some tree mammal (in theory a Kinkajou, but it jumped through the treetops too fast), and a sloth awake and climbing at the very end. The guide was patient and flexible on pace. Knowledgeable about animals, less about plants. Our group was only 5 people - great. We got night vision binoculars we never really got to use as it's hard to zoom and see anything fast enough that they might apply for. The telescope to zoom in on the birds, the tarantula (which they didn't want us to go too close too so it wouldn't scare and retreat before the other 5-10 groups came to see it), and then the sloth were helpful and our main views of many of the animals. Worth it if you like night walks, and want to do it all. If you're choosing 1-2 days there, you'll see more by day via canopy walks, sloths habitat during the day. All in all, satisfied I did it. It's reasonably priced, and it's a nice starter or easy day, cool temperature tour.
Pro Tip: Bring your own maglite or stronger flashlight to hone in on creatures high above and in the dark, as only your guide will have a strong light.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share such a thoughtful and detailed review—we truly appreciate it.
We’re really glad to hear that you and your son enjoyed the experience overall, especially spotting creatures like the tarantula, sloth, and leaf cutter ants—those are always special moments, particularly when the forest comes alive at night. It’s also great to know that you found the walk safe, accessible, and kid-friendly, and that your guide created a flexible and patient experience for your small group.
We completely understand your comments about the number of groups and the impact of multiple lights and noise. During peak periods like Easter/Spring Break, the reserve can indeed feel busier than usual, and we recognize how that can affect both visibility and the overall atmosphere. This is something we continuously discuss with the reserve and other operators, as maintaining a respectful and immersive environment—for both guests and wildlife—is very important to us.
Your note about the night vision binoculars is also appreciated. While they can be a fun addition, we understand they’re not always the most practical tool in fast-moving or dense forest conditions, and your feedback helps us better set expectations.
We’re happy you felt the experience was worthwhile and a good introduction to the nocturnal world, even with the challenges you mentioned. And thank you as well for the helpful tip—coming prepared with a personal flashlight can definitely enhance the experience.
We hope to welcome you back again, perhaps during a quieter time of year, for an even more intimate encounter with the forest at night

Our night walk in Monteverde, Costa Rica was truly unforgettable! We were a group of 12, and our guide George was absolutely outstanding. His knowledge of the cloud forest and its nocturnal wildlife was impressive, and his ability to spot animals in complete darkness was nothing short of amazing.
Thanks to George, we saw a palm pit viper, tarantula, sloth, sleeping toucan, and even a grasshopper—each in their natural habitat. He shared fascinating information about every species and made the experience engaging for both adults and kids in our group.
Exploring the cloud forest at night was such a unique adventure, and George’s expertise made it exceptional. I would absolutely do this tour again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Costa Rica!

It was really fun to go out after dark and I recommend every family do at least one night tour for all the amazing creatures.
We saw some cool bugs on our tour but unfortunately few mammals. You can't control the wildlife!

We had a great time on our night walk! We saw so many things like a snake, huge spiders, cool insects, armadillo, birds, and cockroach the size of my hand. George was extremely passionate and obviously had a lot of knowledge and Uncle Vinny was super cool and had a great eye!!!
Response from Host, May 2025
Thank you so much! That really means a lot. I genuinely love sharing the wonders of the
forest—there’s so much that goes unnoticed without a guide. I’m really glad you enjoyed the
experience, and thanks again for recommending it!

Loved it. George was very personable, very knowledgeable, and genuinely very excited about the things he showed us. I don’t think I would have been able to spot any of the critters he pointed out to us. And I know it’s been mentioned in other reviews, but he really is a wizard at taking pictures through a spotting scope. Favorite guide of our trip.

George was an amazing guide. He was extremely knowledgeable about the wildlife and areas to hike, and provided an awesome scope and lights and helped us take fantastic photographs. We saw a sloth, toucan, several snakes, tarantula, and many other cool insects including a golden beetle. George was excellent with our two younger boys (ages 8 and 10) and made the tour one of the best highlights of our trip! Would recommend highly!!
