This was one of the best experiences we had on our trip! Our guide was Christian, and he was incredible. He shared so much wonderful knowledge about how to listen, look and understand the animals of the forest. He helped prepare us for what to look out when we explored other forests on our trip. We were able to see a sloth come down from a tree at night which is a very lucky experience we were thrilled to have had. Thank you so much Viator, Wildlife Refuge Monteverde and Christian. I highly recommend booking this to anyone looking for an informative, fun and memorable tour in Costa Rica.

This tour was a true highlight of what was an incredible trip to Costa Rica.
Oscar's enthusiasm about the cloud forest was infectious. He has a remarkably keen eye for spotting expertly camouflaged wildlife in the dark. Throughout the tour, he shared a wealth of knowledge about the cloud forest and its inhabitants.
This tour was a wild sensory experience. Among other animals, we saw tree frogs, pit vipers, a tarantula, a salamander, a giant grasshopper and scorpions.
Sturdy footwear is a must.

Chris/Christian was an amazing guide and we were able to learn so much and see a lot of awesome animals in Monteverde after dark! We felt safe the entire time and the guide has not only great eyes for spotting wildlife but a ton of knowledge and insight about conservation. It was awesome to support a small local family business that prioritizes conservation. Would definitely recommend Wildlife Refuge Monteverde, C. Los Camachos, Provincia de Puntarenas, Monteverde, Costa Rica

Nasua team is very professional to identify and introduce species in the rain forest. They taught me and my daughter a lot of knowledge with great kindness and professionalism.

We were happy to see a sleeping toucan, some frogs, tarantulas and a scorpion. Unfortunately most of the tour was just walking through the dark without our guide talking much about the forest. It would have been nice had he explained more about the ecology of the forest since there were not many animals out to see. Also, this tour was a bit pricey and compared to other tours we did it did not measure up.

It was a really cool experience! We got to see a tarantula, a sleeping, howler, monkey, a sleeping, hummingbird, and some other really neat. Bring a jacket! It gets chilly at night. And make sure to wear closed toe shoes- there are scorpions,

The night walking tour in Monteverde was a standout highlight of our road trip through Costa Rica. We were lucky enough to see a lot of animals throughout the evening, which made the whole experience feel like a genuine adventure into the wild. Our guide was super nice and incredibly knowledgeable, clearly caring about the forest and its inhabitants.
We especially appreciated how the tour ended up being a full 3.5 hours—the extra time allowed us to really immerse ourselves in the atmosphere without feeling rushed. It was such a memorable and authentic way to see the forest come alive after dark. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for a deep and engaging experience with Monteverde's nighttime wildlife!

Frederico was our guide. He was fantastic! Super knowledgable, incredible at spotting wildlife, and very personable. We were the only ones who signed up for the tour so it ended up being a personal tour. We would tell anyone who visits Monteverde to consider this tour!
Kel_M, Apr 2026
We saw several frogs, a tiny viper, spiders, a sloth which was difficult to see, and a scorpion that glowed when you shine a black light on it.

This was an exceptional tour. We can't say enough good things about our tour guide Cristian Chaves. He was extremely knowledgeable and provided so much information on top of showing us so many interesting creatures. It was a fantastic experience.

Great Night Tour with an Amazing Guide
We had a really great experience on this night walking tour in Monteverde – definitely worth it!
Our guide, Pablo, was very kind and knowledgeable. He showed us many animals, especially a sloth, as well as a tarantula, a scorpion, and lots of insects and spiders. He also shared interesting information about them and different plants.
It was very convenient that he provided us with flashlights for free. He also had a spotting scope so we could see everything up close.
Overall, a very enjoyable and interesting experience – we would definitely recommend it!

What a fabulous tour! I was not a fan of most of the creatures we encountered on this tour, haha, but it was still fun to get to see them (from a safe distance!) in the wild.
Chris was incredibly knowledgeable about the local wildlife, could spot things from a mile away, and made safety his #1 priority. We saw a tarantula, two vipers, and a two-toed sloth, among other things. He would also use your phone to take photos through his scope, which left us with amazing pictures.
10/10 recommend!

We did this night tour during our trip in January 2026 with Cristian, who was an amazing tour guide. It was such an incredible experience and we were able to see a lot of wildlife, including scorpions, two different kinds of snakes, a sleeping sloth, a sleeping toucan, frogs, and other insects. Cristian is very friendly and dedicated and is very knowledgeable about the flora and fauna of Costa Rica and provided us with interesting information throughout the night, as well as answering any questions we had. He also taught us a little bit about the history of ecotourism and sustainability in Costa Rica. You can tell he has such a passion and respect for wildlife and Costa Rica's biodiversity with the way he talks about it. He also stayed a few minutes after the tour was done to answer some further questions I had about other wildlife in Costa Rica. Thanks again Cristian!

Chris was amazing, he was so passionate about everything we saw and he knew how to pass on his passion. We saw a lot of animals and difficult to see like Rufus frog and a green viper !

Great tour that was totally different than a day-time tour. We saw a few different snakes, birds, and some really interesting insects that were actually the highlight! It's great how the guides interact and make sure various groups are aware of interesting animal spottings, and no one misses out. Jose was our guide and had a last minute group adjustment so we had both English and Spanish-speaking guests, and he did a great job translating everything - including guest questions - so that everyone got the same information. He had a great eye and is clearly very knowledgable. Thank you!

We had Oscar for our night walk and he was incredible! He spotted so much wildlife for us and took amazing pictures through his scope which he shared with us at the end (so less time wasted taking photos with everyone’s phone, and better quality photos). He had brilliant knowledge of the wildlife and was clearly very experienced. We valued being in a small group of 4 and Oscar directed us around the refuge in a way that felt safe and which made the most of our time in the tour. It was great to see the guides working together at times to share information on what had been spotted, while not feeling crowded into a larger group. The wildlife refuge itself was a great location, and others on our trip who went to a different reserve saw less than us. Highly recommended!
Tanvi_D, Feb 2026
Cool experience, but definitely on the expensive side. We didn’t see too many animals due to the rain. Our tour guide was great!
Kendra_B, Feb 2026
Great tour with amazing sights! Would recommend for anyone in monteverde! Saw so many animals you would not see durning the day!
Maayan_H, Feb 2026
Was very nice, got to see 3 insects, 1 tarantula, 2 vipers and a few sleeping birds. The tourguide had a lot of experience.
Carla_Z, Feb 2026
Pablo is a great guide. He was very educated about the wildlife and vegetation. We felt that he was able to share information back and forth with other guides as well which helped us and other groups see more things. We saw a scorpion, tarantula, sleeping monkey and birds, stream frog, and pit viper snake. Nature is always moving so we felt lucky to have seen what was there at the time.
Raquel_R, Feb 2026
Wonderful! Chris was so knowledgeable and we saw more than expected. I’d highly recommend this tour.
Sebastien_M, Jan 2026
Guide was awesome and knowledgeable but we didn’t see much! Was a great experience anyways! Would book in another season

Our tour guide Pablo was fantastic. We saw lots of different animals and Pablo did a great job providing lots of interesting information. We loved it and would highly recommend this tour.

Christian is a very experienced, highly dedicated, friendly guide. He told us a lot about the local flora and fauna. Everything was very well organized. Highly recommended. Small group 3+2 Pers

Odds to find any animals in the forrest in the night alone = close to none, odds finding with a competent guide = big. We were lucky to see a sloth, a viper, a sleeping hummingbird and a sleeping tucane and maybe the most interesting thing, "a glowing scorpion"! Our guide Steven was using a ultraviolet lamp to find a scorpion. Apprently scorpions are fluoresce under ultraviolet light. But remember, you can never be sure to see nice stuff while it's wildlife.
Shirley_G, Jan 2026
Do not have great expectations . It’s a nice hike. Cool to be in the rain forest at night. Didn’t see much.
Heather_W, Jan 2026
We love night tours and had been on one prior to this. Of course the animals can’t be predicted and we didn't find some we were looking for but our guide Stephen was incredibly knowledgeable and took photos of toucans, frogs, and a viper for us.
Shaun_L, Jan 2026
This night walk was excellent and easily one of my favourite experiences in Monteverde. The groups are small and well managed, so it never feels crowded, and the guides clearly communicate with each other to make sure everyone gets to see wildlife without it becoming a spectacle.
Cristian Chaves was an amazing guide — friendly, well organised, and great at helping everyone get clear views and surprisingly good phone photos at night. We saw vipers (including a baby), red-eyed frogs, a scorpion, a huge stick insect, and even a sloth in the distance.
I wasn’t sure what to expect going in, but it completely won me over. I’d happily do it again.

Tour guide Oscar is excellent and knowledgeable. You definitely can see lots of species. Oscar gave us plenty of time to see animals and insects through the telescope and helped us to take pictures. Highly recommended this tour!
