This activity was a lot more difficult than I was expecting. It would be great for teens/young adults with lots of energy, buy for me, it was a struggle. You have to pedal a long was to get to the bio bay (and back) Unfortunately the conditions on the night we went were not great so we did not see much. (Of course, not Chillboats fault) The guides were great and I learned a lot about bioluminescence.

We give you a detailed description of the activity when booking so that you are aware and know what to expect; so yes, tour includes a 20–25 minute ride to the bay and the same time to return, which is part of the adventure; it is also recommended for participants with a basic level of fitness. There was moon light and still we saw bioluminescence, you even sat on the edge of the pontoon for the experience, but as mentioned it depends on natural conditions beyond our control, and it may vary each night.

Be prepared to pedal a lot. It was fun overall but can be tiring if you are not prepared. You can not bring anything with you. Just phone in water pouch.

Thank you Cindy: That’s correct, the experience includes pedaling approximately 20–25 minutes to reach the bioluminescent bay. Once there, you’ll enjoy about 30 minutes in the bay before returning, all of which is part of the adventure. The pace is calm and accessible for most participants. This time may vary depending on wind conditions, which are part of the wonderful natural experience. But this information is provided before booking. We also recommend arriving 30 minutes early and following all instructions for your safety, as well as attending the initial briefing with navigation guidelines for the Chiliboats Water Bike, and the less you bring the better is the best way to enjoy nature around you!. As a water activity, it requires a basic level of physical effort to fully enjoy the experience. We're glad you think it was fun!

Wonderful experience. I was a little iffy about pedaling a floating bicycle boat in the ocean at night, but they made the experience feel very safe. We were able to see the Micro-organisms light up and we went to many different spots in the bay to see them multiple times. Excellent experience. Highly Recommend. I recommend wearing Swim clothes and water shoes, with a change of shoes once you get back. You can lock your stuff in your car as someone is there to watch the cars.

It makes us very happy that You enjoyed and we really appreciate you pointing out our efforts to share a great adventure with you and our easy to ride water bikes :) The use of comfortable cloth and water shoes is specified in all booking platforms; no need to pedal, but for the location and the rocky shore; about the bug spray, we understand bugs can annoy at certain times in the afternoons and its seasonal, when we go out, bugs stay at shore; unless you use an eco friendly bug spay, we don't recommend it, to avoid pollution in the Biobay :) We value your visit and recommendations!

We drove three hours across the island to do this excursion only to find that my son was over the weight limit. There was no limit in the listing when I booked. We spent a whole half day of our four day trip to come over and do the excursion. Very disappointed.

Dear Mrs. Raegan: How can you say that if you never had the experience! But thanks because it gives us the opportunity to clarify important facts for future guests: The statement that there were no weight or height restrictions is incorrect. These requirements are clearly and explicitly stated across all booking platforms, including Tripadvisor/Viator, before booking, during the reservation process, and afterward. They exist for one primary reason: the safety of our guests.
Your reservation was made on March 8, 2026. You had more than 5 days after booking to read the details you were supposed to read prior booking; cancel and request refund. Instead You contacted us approximately two hours before the activity via message center confirming a participant at 350 lbs and 6’11”, which exceeds the established limits. We responded immediately and explained that, for safety reasons, no exceptions can be made. You did not arrive at the meeting point, and the reservation was recorded as a no-show. Our intention is never to make any guest feel uncomfortable; however, the participant exceeded the safe operating capacity of the waterbike, and for that reason participation was not possible.
We stand by our policies, which are clearly communicated and consistently enforced to ensure a safe experience for all.

Professional, dedicated to safety and giving full experience. We revelled in the sparkles of the diatoms and the trillions of stars rarely seen these days. Can't post photos because didn't take phone out on water. Wear old shoes that can get wet. I wore long, rolled up pants and long sleeve shirt. Perfect for March evening. Mosquitoes on shore, but not out on water.

So much fun on the chilibikes and incredibly magical experience. Wear water shoes and shorts you don’t mind getting wet. Also try to take a water protection pouch for your phone so you can bring it with you and it stays secure, but honestly pictures can’t capture the bioluminescence appropriately, you have to experience it. Between being able to be under the stars without light pollution and the firefly like effect the bioluminescence creates under the water, no other boating experience will even come close. And the guides are wonderful and knowledgeable!!

Once in a lifetime experience! The guides were informative and kind. The scenery is absolutely gorgeous and the bioluminescent bay is magical. The bikes are unique and pretty easy to maneuver. The only let down was per new laws swimming is no longer allowed.

Regarding swimming, that is correct — and this information is clearly stated in the tour details prior to booking — it is currently not permitted in the bioluminescent bay in accordance with Administrative Order No. 2023-02 issued by the Department of Natural and Environmental Resources (DRNA) on June 7, 2023, which establishes protective measures to preserve this fragile ecosystem and the bioluminescent organisms. These provisions are intended to ensure that future generations can continue to enjoy this natural wonder.

This was a very good experience. It was the second bioluminescent experience I have been on, one was clear kayaks, and neither lived up to the pictures in the ads. However, we saw more on this one than the other. The boats were cool and on a night of a total new moon, I would go on this one again. The guides were more knowledgeable and the experience of riding out on the water following the small glow sticks on the other adventurers was unique.
We did see some creatures. The guides explained why we only saw a few and why they were not very bright due to the sky conditions.

As we mentioned during the tour, bioluminescence is a natural phenomenon; many environmental factors can affect how bright it appears, these are elements we cannot control, but we always do our best to explain them so guests understand what to expect. We appreciate your tip about visiting during new moon. While darker nights can enhance visibility, we understand that it’s hard to plan a vacation around moon phases. For that reason, we focus on offering the best guidance possible, and as you experienced, our lead guide always searches the best areas to observe bioluminescence.
It’s also worth noting that summer is usually the best season for organisms to bloom, since it is our hot/dry season, which naturally favors stronger bioluminescent activity. Thank you again for joining us and for recommending the tour.

The meeting point is at the end of a street by the water. Wear shorts or pants you don’t care to get wet. Make sure to stretch and take pain medication if you have pain in your legs you will be pedaling a lot.

This is an amazing experience. At first it will appear difficult, but the tour guides (Mary and Waldie) were very helpful and provide a lot guidance to calm your nerves. Once you get into the pedal boat and began pedaling across the water, it is like riding a bicycle across the ocean. It is peaceful! You will get a good workout pedaling across the ocean to the lagoon, but it is better than taking a boat - great exercise. My wife was so excited and loved kicking her feet in the water, watching fish light up the water when they passed by us. The water was warm and peaceful. There were fish jumping around us in the water and swimming by, one fish brushed against my wife’s feet. Mary shared a lot of scientific information about the species that creates the light in the water, it was beautiful! I would do it again.

A really cool experience. The boats were very stable and my husband who gets motion sick very easily was totally ok. Pedaling doesn’t require much force and the guides are very respectful of nature.

Had an amazing time with La Parguera by Caribbean Chillboats! It was our first time trying the biking kayak and it was a lot of fun. We saw plenty of the blue bioluminescent light, which was incredible. I also appreciated how much they cared about preserving the space so future generations can enjoy it too. Highly recommend!

We recently joined a bioluminescent bay tour with this amazing company, and it was one of the most memorable evenings of our trip to Puerto Rico.
The team runs a thoughtfully designed, environmentally responsible tour. From the start, they shared all necessary safety guidelines, including a clear explanation of why swimming isn’t allowed—to protect the delicate algae from harsh chemicals and help preserve this natural wonder for future generations. We deeply appreciated their commitment to sustainability.
Special shout-out to our guide, Maria, whose knowledge of bioluminescent algae and the local ecosystem made the entire experience even more impactful. Her scientific explanations were easy to understand, and she helped everyone feel comfortable and safe while exploring the glowing waters.
We pedaled about a mile and a half on extremely comfortable chiliboats—super easy to maneuver even for beginners. Once we reached the viewing area, the water came alive beneath us. Touching it gently with our feet, we watched the bioluminescence shimmer like stars beneath the surface. Speaking of stars—the night sky above revealed the dazzling Milky Way, making it a breathtaking double feature.
Maria also showed us how to sit safely along the boat’s edge for an even closer encounter. It was pure magic—peaceful, glowing, and humbling.

I can’t recommend this bioluminescence tour enough—it was truly one of the most breathtaking and surreal adventures I’ve ever had. From start to finish, everything was well-organized, safe, and designed to make the most of this rare natural wonder.
Gliding through the calm, dark waters on the chili boats and watching the water light up with every little movement was pure magic. One of the most unforgettable moments was being able to scoop up the glowing water with my hands—you could actually see the tiny lights sparkling in your palms like living stars. It felt like holding a piece of the universe.
Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the science behind bioluminescence, which made the experience even more meaningful. The entire atmosphere was peaceful, otherworldly, and full of wonder—like stepping into a scene from a fantasy movie.
If you’re looking for a unique, unforgettable experience in nature, this tour is a must-do. Just be sure to go on a dark night (no full moon) for the best visibility!
