Itinerary

Start with 9am pickup at your hotel in Playa del Carmen, where you’ll meet your personal guide for the day and board an air-conditioned minivan for the 90-minute trip to Cobá. This sprawling city offers an explorer’s glimpse of Maya archeology, as some of the structures in the jungle site are just partially excavated, with vines and thick foliage growing over the pyramids. Try to spot some of Cobá’s wildlife as you walk through the shady ruins, then climb to the to of Nohoch Mul, the tallest pyramid on the Yucatan Peninsula.

Continue to Tulum, a picture-perfect Maya city that overlooks white sand beaches and Caribbean water, then visit a nearby restaurant for a buffet lunch of regional cuisine. After lunch, spend the afternoon experiencing Maya culture firsthand, with a traditional cleansing ritual in a temazcal sauna.

Meet a temazcalero guide, who will introduce you to the ceremony and answer any questions, then invite you to join a salute around the fire. You have 90 minutes to relax in the aromatic, steam-filled temazcal, which uses herbs and copal resin harvested from tropical trees, but you may leave the temazcal at any time, or ask the temazcalero to adjust the heat for your comfort. After the ritual, you can refresh with cool drinks and fresh fruit, with time to relax in a hammock before returning to your hotel in Playa del Carmen.
