Itinerary
After hotel pickup in New Orleans, you're driven to the Oak Alley Plantation, located among the Great River Road sugar plantations alongside the Mississippi River. On arrival, stroll under majestic, 300-year-old oak trees leading up to the antebellum Big House, and take a tour of the opulent mansion with a guide dressed in period costume. The Greek Revival architecture was built in 1837 and later restored in 1925.
Wander the 25-acre (10-hectare) grounds at your own pace during your free time. Visit the blacksmith shop, snap photos of antique farm equipment, or peruse exhibits on slavery and the Civil War. Grab lunch and beverages at the restaurant or cafe (own expense) before the tour moves to the swamp.
Next, board the bus and drive to the site of your swamp tour. On arrival, board a 16-passenger airboat with stadium-style seating for a high-speed adventure through the swamp. You'll have unobstructed views of wildlife, including an up-close look at the star attraction: alligators.
Your captain is experienced at searching out these reptiles, even during hibernation in colder months. The airboat, propelled by a large fan that blows air from the back of the vessel, can produce speeds of up to 35 mph (56 kph). You'll ride in just inches of water into parts of the swamp that are inaccessible to traditional boats or vehicles.

The combination tour of Oak Alley and the airboat ride in the Louisiana swamp was a pleasant and well organized day. We enjoyed it very much, especially not having to drive to the locations. I would highly recommend it to anyone who watched the experience.

The Plantation visit was too rushed. By the time we got something to eat, there was little time to explore. There was a lot of driving - 1.5 hrs to the plantation then another 1.5 hrs to the airboats. Thankfully only 0.5 back to our hotel.
The Airboat tour was terrific. Plenty of time and loads of fun. A must do when visiting NOLA

It was relaxing and educational. The swamp experience was amazing we had (I think he said his name was Jake) he almost lost his hand due to a bite. He was great explaining things and funny. I highly recommend this tour and Jake as your swamp tour guide.

The swamp portion was so much fun. I wish the boys driver pointed out some of the things we passed on the way there which would have improved the experience

This was a fun trip. The tour of the house was informative. Even though it was freezing, our captain made the airboat fun.

We really enjoyed this experience. We were picked up at our hotel on time by Reggie. He explained what to expect. The minibus was comfortable and in around a half hour we were at the airboat (we took the large airboat which sat around 15 people). Kenny drove the airboat and made sure we all had a great time. The boat ride itself was a lot of fun and we saw quite a few alligators and a bald eagle. Kenny explained a lot about alligators and the sites. Great fun and informative. After the boat it was back on the bus (30+ ? Min) to the Oak Alley Plantation. We grabbed a quick bite to eat at the cafe (get the pecan pralines) and then git a tour if the mansion by Wes who was very informative and then we toured all the otger exhibits. After that it was an hour ride back to NOLA (most of us slept). There were bathroom facilities at both the airboat and the mansion. We had a great day and highly recommend.

In town for a family reunion! This combination tour was awesome. Highly recommend the airboat over the ‘tour boat’. Everyone had a great time! The tour guides were friendly and informative. You will love it!

Plantation score: 8/10
Airboat ride: 100/10
Plantation was informative and eye opening to see the disparity between haves and have nots of the time period.
Airboat was awesome. Seeing gators up close in the wild is an amazing experience.

Plantation Tour was everything we expected and more. The tour guide at the Mansion was very experienced and gave a great presentation of the history of the plantation. The swamp boat tour was one of the best things we did while visiting New Orleans. Our guide was excellent, and we had great weather for taking photos. We even saw alligators even though our guide said it was a bit chilly for them to be out and about. Great Tour!

There was not enough time at the plantation, especially if you wanted lunch. The swamp tour was excellent and the time at the plantation was good.
BARBARA_K, Nov 2025
Great day trip with enough time at the plantation and swamp. The swamp tour is high speed and can be a little bumpy, but the stops in between are well worth it. Loved the close-up views of the alligators, birds and vegetation.

Thank you for the five-star review, Barbara!

The airboat was great but it can be a windy experience so take a jacket. We saw alligators, cranes, pelicans, a very big owl, swamp cows, and a mother EAGLE feeding it's young.....how cool is that!
The plantation tour was informative and must see, the mint julip was very tasty and smooth.

The tour itself like to get us to the actual plantation and the swamp tour. The drivers were great. The lady in the evening had us laughing so hard. I wish I remembered her name. Now asked for the actual like plantation tour that obviously had nothing to do with this company. It was very odd. The person who gave us a tour spoken, a weird voice. He had no enthusiasm in his voice, as if he was narrating. It was kind of creepy. The plantation is beautiful. Now when we got to the swamp tour, the people out there are hilarious. The guys do a great job. I got to feed an alligator a marshmallow and when I say feed, I mean, like drop it in the water next to it because it’s apparently I’m too scared to actually feed it. But the airboat tour was fun. The guide was hilarious and we had a blast.

The plantation tour was way too rushed. We didn't have enough time to see everything and sit to eat. E got our lunch to go. No pictures are allowed in the house. More history or happenings with the house or people living therewould have been nice. It was very fast. The swamp tour was great. We had a great guide. Informative and fun
Response from Host, Oct 2025

Tour thru house was good. Presley was our guide. Our driver Miss Lorraine was awesome. Enjoyed our ride either way her. Knew our names and even sat with us! The airboat tour was totally awesome! Captain Dewey shared a lot of knowledge and answered all questions. He also took us to seen his friends a family of raccoons. So cute. He knew where to find the gators. Saw around 12 anywhere from 6’ to 14’. Even had a baby gator for us all to hold. Would definitely repeat this!

Plantation is impressive and the history and insights informative and thought provoking. And the food surprisingly excellent.
Swamp tour was fun - the ride itself (seeing the swamp in general gators up close), and having a guide with a great sense of humor all mixed up in a cool, unique experience.
