Fantastic tour of Kibera

Jessica_T, Mar 2025
I was a little apprehensive about touring Kibera because of its reputation for being a high crime area, but as soon as I met our guide, Collin's, my fears were put to rest. Collin's, who grew up in Kibera, was extremely knowledgeable about the area and he seemed to know everyone. While the poverty and hard lives experienced by Kibera's residents is extremely shocking, I was very impressed with the general seeming happiness of its residents and how friendly they were. Collins took us to a house of an elderly Kibera resident and I was impressed by her positive attitude despite her very small house and cramped living quarters. Collins also took us to a school and I loved meeting the children. We didn't have cash with us, which I highly recommend so you can buy candy for the children. The only negative about the tour was that the driver made us stop at an overpriced souvenir shop on the way back to the hotel--something that was definitely not on the itinerary. This unfortunately seems to be standard practice during Kenyan tours.

Hi Jessica, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience! We are delighted to hear that Collins helped put your mind at ease and provided you with an insightful tour of Kibera. His deep knowledge and connections within the community make the experience even more meaningful, and we are glad you got to see the warmth and resilience of the residents firsthand. Meeting the children and interacting with the local community is always a special part of the tour, and we appreciate your tip about carrying cash for small gestures like buying candy—it’s a great way to spread joy. We sincerely apologize for the unexpected stop at the souvenir shop. While we strive to stick to the itinerary, we will follow this up with your driver. We appreciate you feedback and we hope to welcome you again on another tour! Warm regards, Clara

This is a must see tour. Walking tour was challenging at times with uneven terrain and mud.

I was amazed to see how this community comes together to support each other. The people are hard working, the children happy and friendly. The parents send their children go to school and the children greeted us in English with big happy smiles. Our guides were excellent. They were informative and we felt welcomed and safe throughout the tour.

We booked last minute and it was a great decision. The tour guide Paul was awesome !!! We went to Kibera and it was a lot of fun to see how people leave there and have their small little businesses . Also we asked if we could ride on the local bus that has very loud music with lots of TVs screens , he was able to arrange it and it was a wild drive to experience it with the local people . If you never seen the slams you definitely should consider using this company and definitely request for Paul.

Inside kibera

Wow! Is the only way I can describe my experience touring kibera. TOM my tour operator was outstanding in proving background history and knowledge of kibera. Tom linked us with Willie, our local kibera guide and my experience elevated even more. Willie is still a resident and his presence allowed me to see and interact with the community in a way that I wouldn't have been allowed to do without him. Willie even took me to his home, introduced me to his family and allowed me to the essence of how the people in kibera live day to day. Highly recommend
