This experience has been eye-opening. The guide was amazing and the tour we took showed us the way the community helps another. We plan on returning to purchase more from the local businesses and donating again to the school.

The guide is from the area, and he showed us around the market, local shops, a women’s organisation, his house, his mother’s house, and the school. What they do to support the community is amazing, and we truly enjoyed the tour. It was an unforgettable experience and we totally recommend it.

An Eye-Opening and Meaningful Experience

Dustin_D, Aug 2026
This was one of the most meaningful experiences of my time in Nairobi. Lucas and Effie were outstanding guides: warm, knowledgeable, and deeply connected to the community. Rather than simply touring Kibera, they provided thoughtful historical and cultural context while introducing us to local organizations, businesses and community members who are creating positive change. What stood out most was the opportunity to see Kibera through the perspective of people who live and work there. The experience challenged stereotypes and highlighted the resilience, creativity and strong sense of community that exist throughout the neighborhood. I left with a much deeper understanding of Kibera and a genuine appreciation for the community and important work being done there. I highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting Nairobi who wants an authentic, respectful and educational introduction to one of the city's most vibrant communities.

Raw, real and worthwhile.

Joseph_G, Jul 2026
A raw, moving and inspiring experience with others' life experience. While here on a luxury Safari, we were grateful to see the real world for many Kenyans. Peter and Elijah were vulnerable and articulate about the challenges and successful of many in Kibera. Thank you!

Great experience

One of the best travel experiences of my life!

Tracy_M, Jul 2026
We had an amazing experience with Elijah as our tour guide and enjoyed meeting Lucas at the end also. We got a quick uber to Greenhouse mall and then started walking from there. We visited the markets outside of the slum first and saw all of the residents with their stores selling anything from food to clothes to toys. Then we went deeper into the market before coming across the railroad tracks that overlooked the residential area. It was a really expansive view of the area. Elijah explained about how the markets work, and the trash clean up (govt only comes every month or 2). We then visited a business making jewelry out of domestic animal bones and we had a chance to shop at their small store. We also visited a women’s bead factory where they made beads from paper - it was really incredible. Also a chance to purchase there also, so bring some extra cash. Next we walked all throughout the residential area. Super eye opening. The mazes of homes was incredible. The highlight for us was visiting the school. The kids were so excited to see us. They asked us our names and sang us a song. We got to visit with the teachers and see the classrooms. If you want to bring something to donate, this would be the time. You could give it to the teachers (books, notebooks, even food for the woman who cooks for the kids). We also got to visit Elijah’s mom who allowed us into her home and was so sweet, giving us all hugs and showing us her home she had been in for 40 years. She reminded me of my mother in law - wanting ab extra hug before we leave and telling me to call her! My only piece if advice is to organize transportation ahead of time. We tired to call an uber from the end of the tour and no one is would come - so we rode in a tiny van with locals. An experience haha. Overall this was one of the best travel experiences I’ve ever had. I appreciated them allowing us into their lives and their homes. I loved how it highlighted the hustle and resilience of the people of Kibera.

Eye opening insightful tour. An important area to experience and your tour dollars help improve the community.

A different Easter Sunday

Tracey_F, Apr 2026
This was a walking tour of just part of the Kibera Slums. Whilst I had mixed feelings about taking this tour - I don’t like the concept of poverty tourism - this tour was not that. It was well planned, well managed and interesting. Our host Effie was considerate throughout. And it was a great touch that Lucas was there to say hello at the end of the tour. Would thoroughly recommend this tour in order to see a real part of Nairobi life..

Amazing unexpected experience

Camille_A, Feb 2026
This was a wonderful visit that I was not expecting while traveling to Kenya. Our guides Elijah and Effy were simply amazing, as well as Lucas who joined us at the school. There made sure to informed us about the history and life of Kibera and were kindly making sure that everyone could understand, as most of us were not native English speakers. I would recommend this visit to anyone visiting Nairobi to get a different perspective on this world and its ways.

Amazing experience

Simply the best tour we’ve done. Effy was amazing - so informative and so kind. We’re so grateful we were shown around, thank you!!

Best tour ever! Must do in Nairobi

Excellent experience guide was very informative . Well worth the tour highly recommended . Well worth the money

Good and Safe Service

MELIHZAFER_A, Jan 2026
It might be a dangerous area. Better go with a guide with a recorded service like viator. A must see place and experience while in Nairobi.

Eye opening

Aleisha_S, Jan 2026
I was hesitant about booking this tour initially, but I am so happy that I did! The tour was not only eye opening it was inspiring . Learning about the Kibera community was truly heart warming , and made me have so much gratitude. This was such an educational experience and I'm grateful to have had Peter as our guide. Booking this tour, not only supports the school that they have built for the children in Kibera it also helps bring awareness/ contribution to a greater cost. Thank you again to Peter, who has such an insightful, tenacious and affable spirit. This is an experience that I will never ever forget. P.s make sure you wear closed toe shoes

A Must Do

The tour was private, and so informative. we would absolutely do it again. The amazing things Lucas and his group are doing in their community is impressive.

Eye-opening experience.

Travell_E, Oct 2025
Eye-opening experience. They did a great job of showing life in the Slums. The visit to the school for young children was fun.

Incredible Kibera tour with Lucas

Elly_M, Oct 2025
The Kibera tour with Lucas was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. Lucas not only gave us an informative tour, but a true insight into life in Kibera. Not only that, but his passion for improving the lives and future of children living in Kibera was incredibly inspiring. It was a truly humbling and incredibly uplifting. Can't recommend Lucas' tour highly enough.

Largely educational

Allyson_L, Oct 2025
This tour was largely educational and eye-opening. Peter showed us what life is like for those living in Kibera and offered valuable insights into the community’s daily realities. He brought us deep into the residential areas and also showed us the school that he and his team has set up for children who need it the most. This tour is truly worthwhile.

Unique and meaningful experience in Kibera

Andrea_H, Sep 2025
The tour of Kibera with Elijah was a unique experience that allowed us to see an important side of Nairobi. During the tour, Elijah explained in detail what life inside the slum is like and introduced us to people who live there, all in complete safety. During the visit, it is possible to support the local community by purchasing handicrafts and artworks. The highlight of the tour for us was the visit to the school, a project started thanks to the hard work of the guides. Totally recommended experience – thank you Elijah and Lucas!

Lucas offers a very intimate, small-group tour of Kibera that takes you into places you simply wouldn’t find on your own. It’s a fascinating and inspiring way to spend a morning in Nairobi. I was amazed by how warm and welcoming the residents are, eager to share their daily life and stories. Lucas answered every question and provided so much context about the history, community projects, and everyday realities. I learned so much that I actually came back the next day to explore more. If you want a genuine, respectful insight into Nairobi’s vibrant heart, this tour is a must.

❤️ Life Changing Experience ❤️

Tajel_P, Sep 2025
As a solo traveler from California, I felt safe the entire visit with Peter as my guide…I went there expecting nothing…and in return, my mind and my heart expanded in ways I can’t even describe…It was a Life Changing experience and an honor to spend time with the people and children of Kibera ❤️ THANK YOU PETER!!!

Amazing experience

ThomasSchjtt_C, Sep 2025
I had a great day experiencing kimera with my local guide Elijah. I would definitely recommend doing the tour to get an insight in the everyday life of the citizens of kibera.

Amazing!

wendy_m, Sep 2025
We had the pleasure of Elijah for our tour today. He was kind, patient, knowledgeable and extremely friendly. We met some amazing locals. We got to visit a school and give out sweets to the children. The community spirit is wonderful, such happy, welcoming people. Would definitely recommend doing this tour if visiting Nairobi. Would recommend wearing full shoes/walking boots for this tour though due to some areas been uneven, I wore flip flops, not my best idea. Overall had a wonderful day and even got to meet Elijah’s mum who welcomed us with open arms. Thank you!

A real eye-opener

Andreas_H, Aug 2025
This was an eye-opening tour that gave so many insights into life at Kibera. It transmitted the hope and the optimism of its dwellers despite very difficult conditions. My tour guide did a fantastic job in showing me around and answering all my questions and I never felt awkward as a rich person visiting Kibera. Plus the group of tour guides is highly active in offering perspectives to needy Kibera kids by running a pre-school and fostering talent in many ways.

Great Tour with Lucas & Effie

Glahnnia_R, Aug 2025
Lucas and Effie were excellent guides! They provided a thoughtful and detailed tour of Kibera, taking us through the marketplace, the Power Women Group, Victorious Crafts, and the Hope & Shine Primary School. I truly enjoyed connecting with members of the community and gaining a deeper understanding of the area’s history and resilience. I highly recommend this experience to anyone who wants to see Nairobi beyond the high-rise glamour and engage meaningfully with the local community.

Great tour Elijah was excellent.

Jeff_R, Aug 2025
This was a great tour even in the pouring rain. It gave us a tremendous insight into life in the slum. It is a very difficult life there with no running water no TV a few public showers and a few public toilets a lot of garbage but people seem happy. There are some good businesses that are trying to help lift people out of poverty.

Amazing tour

Pavel_I, Aug 2025
I had a really amazing tour with Peter. He is a local who grew up in Kibera, knows everything about the place. He answered all of my questions, and we had a great conversation throughout. Highly recommend this tour. It's a very real way to see how some of the locals live, work, study. These guys also opened a school for the local kids which is funded through the tours. Lots of respect for that!

I had a beautiful experience visiting Kibera — a chance to see the local life, people, and witness the resilience of the community. Visiting the schools and spending time with the kids was truly heartwarming. Their smiles, curiosity, and energy were unforgettable. It was a meaningful and eye-opening day that left me deeply appreciative of the spirit and strength of the people here.

Very interesting place to visit! A lot of respect

Tiemen_J, Aug 2025
We arranged the tour with Lucas to visit the slump. Our guide, Elijah, lived in the slump. He showed us around and told us a lot about the slump. He was very friendly! He showed us the market, school, house, garbage belt, and so much more. I really recommend this tour if you have a couple of hours in Nairobi!

Three hours well spent

CHRISTAKIS_P, Aug 2025
I was lucky to be the only person on the tour so I had full attention of the guide. We progressed at a comfortable pace and viewed the conditions of living at first hand. The resilience of the people is remarkable. The effort to provide education of good standard is admirable. The handicrafts making by men and women is commendable. Elijah the guide was exceptional.

Response from Host, Aug 2025

Thank you for the kind review and words and for finding time to visit kibera with us. It was great to meet you and to share a moment. Hope you visit again soon.

An experience all must take part in

Lauren_H, Jul 2025
If there is one experience you book in Nairobi let it be this. Learning about Kibera and taking it in for myself was invaluable and something everyone should do. We were guided by Peter but also met Lucas at the end. The work they are doing to provide free kindergarten to children in Kibera is invaluable and impactful. I felt safe the whole time and learnt so much on this trip, you cannot say you have truly visited Nairobi unless you have visited Kibera. Make sure you have cash with you so you can purchase items and support the workshops you visit and if you are able to then donate to the school! Thank you Lucas and Peter for the work you are doing you really are the best of Kibera!

Response from Host, Aug 2025

Thank you for the kind review and words Lauren. It was really great to meet you and to share stories and experiences. Meeting you was an incredible opportunity and we are more than happy to host you again in the future.

Amazing tour guide that shows you all in the slum. Had a fabulous time exploring all the streets and meeting his family and playing soccer and billiard with kids and residents. Eye opening to explore this.
