Itinerary

Meet a driver at your hotel, then travel to the first stop of the day, Ghar Dalam Cave and Museum, where archeologists have discovered traces of human activity that date back 7,400 years, animal bones that are the earliest evidence of humans that’s been found on the island.

Find out what scientists have learned about prehistoric times on Malta by excavating layer after layer of the cave, and visit the nearby garden, which is planted with indigenous species and trees.

Following your time at Ghar Dalam Cave, continue to Hagar Qim and Mnajdra Temples, set high on a hill on the southern edge of Malta. Hagar Qim is a megalithic temple complex, and along with Malta’s other megalithic structures, is among the oldest religious sites on earth.

Just a short distance away, Mnajdra Temples offer more ancient architecture, including a fascinating limestone temple that aligns with the equinoxes and solstices. Following your time at Mnajdra Temples, begin the return trip to your original departure point, where this tour concludes.

Interesting day out

Jennifer_L, Jul 2026
Information trip…… would have like to know about the walk between the 2 sites before booking. It was fine for us but we had a 78 year old that couldn’t manage the walk down or back in the mid day sun.

Have a car? You can do this.

Sanjana_N, Jun 2026
Truthfully, the guides were nice people, but there was much more to learn than we learned. If you have a car, go and buy tix and get the audio yourselves. Our guide mentioned nothing of the Africa connection, or the stories of giants! Also, I think the pick up was something they worked hard at, but it could be made more clear in the future. With limited time, I don’t regret to, but maybe adding morning and a quick stop at the Blue Grotto would improve this tour.

Amazing Archeological Sites

Jean_L, May 2026
Very knowledgeable guide, I would have liked to hear more scientific history of the dig as I enjoy archeology. I would have like more time to look around the museum and gift shop as I tend to pick up books around these subjects. Otherwise there was plenty of time for the cave and the two other sites.

Katheryne_M, Apr 2026
Guide was knowledgeable and gave us time to wander around the temples. It was not too rushed. Option to get off in Valletta after the tour.

Well organised, but......

Jerry_K, Mar 2026
Well organised, but... guide a bit like a boring professor.... talking, talking, talking. Still recommend it.

Scam

Fiona_M, Feb 2026
They text on the app the bus would be half an hour late then just didn’t show up. No message. There is no phone number. Scammers. DON’T BOOK.

Emma_G, Jan 2026
The sites are interesting but the guiding could have been better had he woven more of a cohesive story.

Cave and temples

Olivier_N, Jan 2026
Good guide, good information. Nice group. On time. Pick up at hotel and possibility of switching buses was appreciated

Prehistoric Temple tour in Malta

Eric_A, Dec 2025
Well spoken guide. Mario provided insight to the history of Malta and our three points of interest. If your sketch, the temple sites are excellent subjects

Highly recommend

B_L, Dec 2025
Perfect for anyone who loves history. Our guide, Mario, is so knowledgable. The sites are truly amazing.

Interesting history but too many people on the tour so it was difficult to get a decent view of the sites.

This tour should be a must-do for anyone interested in Valletta's past.

Richard_W, Sep 2025
Pick up on time from my hotel. Fascinating visit to historic temples and sites of huge interest to me. Really informative guide who really loved her topic.

Informative

Hugo_R, Jun 2025
The bus we used was very comfortable and they even offered water for purchase which was nice. The guide was very knowledgeable and the tour was extremely organized. We saw everything in a reasonable amount of time . I would definitely recommend this tour .

Sarah_V, May 2025
Wonderful way to fit in a bit of history of Malta into our trip. Very informative guide, and not too long of an excursion. Easy to find pick up location.

Discover ancient civilization

Paul_W, May 2025
Very informative and there were separate guides and commentaries for both languages on the tour. Miriam was very good. The temples were excellent, the cave average.

Guide was knowledgeable but not as amusing as he thought he was

Elleke_P, Apr 2025
The sites were good. But went from 2 buses to one. The german/ English guide said " you know" so many times over and over that I tuned out. It was a bit better at the temples but instead of trying to draw pictures in the dirt he could have brought pictures

Fascinating

Irene_E, Apr 2025
Nice 1/2 day tour to see 3 ancient sights. There was a little confusion about moving around buses, but all got figured out. Mario, our guide, was fantastic, he was a former history teacher and really knew the topic.

Highly recommended

AngelaKessler, Mar 2025
Great locations, comfortable bus. The guide, Mario, was friendly and informative. It seemed like we spent about the right amount of time at each location—long enough to see the sights, use the toilet, and make a quick visit to the gift shop.

Prehistoric tour.

IW_T, Mar 2025
Great experience, knowledgeable guide. If you like history and astronomy then this is a tour you should take.

Must see pre-historic site

Ronald_H, Dec 2024
Fantastic must see pre-historic sites. Ghar Dalam cave very interesting. Hagar Qim and Mnajdra temples were hugely impressive. Guide very informative.

This is worth seeing. A bit of extra time at the sites would have made this almost perfect

Suzanna_K, Oct 2024
Very interesting experience. Despite the description stating that the only commentary will be on the bus, our guide did give some background and history of the cave and the temples at the relevant location. Too little time was allowed at each stop. Even an extra 10 minutes at each would have been nice as we felt rushed. Plus, with no toilet on the bus one had to trade off seeing the site for a pit stop, particularly as this was a 4-hour morning tour. Depending on where you're picked up you can spend more time on the bus than at the sites.

Tour was ok, organisation was poor

Rita_G, Jun 2024
Temples were amazing (my 2nd visit). Organisation left a lot to be desired. Hotel staff and reps had no knowledge of trip. Coach and driver sat outside hotel for nearly half hour, (1 of 5 buses), no indication on coach or by driver of tour/whom picking up. Eventually made self known and rudely accused me of being late. Bad temper driving round on the collections. No sign of guide until last pickup point. Once tour started was very good, however, not enough allocated time to be able to include the gift shop/museum visit afterwards. Rude driver perked up when I handed him a monetary tip at the end of the trip. Like to leave them smiling.

One (1) great tour guide; Three (3) amazing sites

Laura_I, Mar 2024
Our guide, Mark, is a very knowledgeable young man. He brought us to 3 amazing ancient sites, explained their significance and then let us explore in our own. Well organized and delivered. Highly recommend this half day tour. PS Thank you to Mark and the bus driver who was able to maneuver the windy streets of Malta.

An amazing glimpse of Malta's prehistory.

Bruce_R, Jan 2024
First, Ghar Dalam (Cave of Darkness) with animal bones from 10,0000 years ago both mounted in display cases and still in the ground, and with evidence , at a later level, of the earliest human settlers from c. 5,000BC. Fascinating backgound theory as to the huge changes in the level of the Mediterranean Sea and its resulting coastline caused by climate change from before and during the last ice age. Then, the 5,500 year old monolithic temples of Hagar Qim (Monolithic Devotion) and Manajdra (Calendar) just two of the many on the islands predating the Pyramids of Giza and Stonehenge. Mark was an excellent and knowledgeable guide pacing the tour well and providing just the right amount of informatrion and insight (with more on offer if required). Pickup and drop off were from and to various hotels around the island (including ours in Qawra to the north), but we found it convenient to be dropped off at Valletta on our way back from the morning's tour to spend the afternoon in the old town (with its small National Archaeological Museum on Republic Street) as well as its many other attractions and interests (including the opportunity to take in some much more recent history in the Lascaris War Rooms).

It was a shame that we could not have the head phone commentary . The guide was ok but not great to listen to ,quite hard work .

2 hr tour/ 2.5 on the bus

Tina, Nov 2023
We were picked up early from the hotel as scheduled then drove over to Silemia to wait for 30 min only to transfer to a larger bus. No communication of what was happening during this time. On the way back we were dropped off at our hotels in order by the larger bus. -- half day tour but the actual visits to the sites only about 2 hours, rest of the time was spent on/waiting on the bus. Recommend pick up by actual bus and more information provided about the history of the island, sites etc., during travel.

A must tour while on the island of Malta.

Dorothy_M, Oct 2023
Mario and Marc were excellent tour guides. They provided exceptional information and were very friendly and helpful.

Never use this company

Lee_C, Aug 2023
Terrible communication. They did not turn up at the arranged pick up point. No reply to email when asked where they were. Still trying to get money back from PayPal as they refused refund with no explanation given I will never use them again.

Tremendous history!

GeoffreyMcDonnell, Jul 2023
Fantastic historical cave tour, covering all the history and how far back it was. Although their was some walking g between the Temples it was worth it.

Absolutely terrible experience - avoid!

PATRICIA_G, Jun 2023
Absolutely terrible experience. My husband and I were picked up from the hotel and instead of going to the first temple, we were dropped off 400 metres further on and told to wait for a further 30 minutes for another bus. We decided not to continue with the trip as the waiting place was heavy with traffic and had lots of building work going on. I asked for a full refund as it was not good for my husband whose health condition could have been badly affected. We were told we would receive a full refund but the tour company have not provided the promised refund!!
