Cautionary tale

We booked at least a month in advance for the private Mt. Pilatus and Lake Lucerne Tour and this review is for the tour company and NOT a reflection on our wonderful guide Rafael! He was fantastic and worked very hard to resolve the issues that occurred that was out of his control and was a significant oversight for the company Tours of Switzerland. We took the public ferry from Luzern to the Mt. Pilatus station to take the tram up the mountain. When we arrived there around 12:20pm we should have boarded the 12:35pm tram however there seemed to be an issue with the tickets and Rafael was very professional and had us stay close by but didn’t involve us with the ticket issues he was trying to resolve. When we finally got our tickets and got through the line the ticket agent said our tickets were for 14:20. Rafael again talked to the ticket agent and the company to try to get in an earlier time slot but this time was earliest. This type of error should not have occurred when you pay a premium price. There was a cafe and toilets to use while we waited. This also forced us to cancel our dinner plans that our hotel arranged for us. Once we got on the tram (30 minutes up the mountain) we didn’t have the full 1 hour to explore because of our delay so we didn’t get to fully walk around as it was advertised. Since it was a Sunday it was more crowded then usual and we had to cut our time short at the top because the cogwheels to get down the mountain was closing soon and once it’s closed you’re stuck at the top. Once you take 1 cogwheel down you have to wait in line and take another cogwheel down the rest of the mountain. I reached out to the company to express my dissatisfaction and they took many days to respond back, once they did they offered me a discount on a future tour which was insufficient. I responded back to express my disappointment again and then a few days go by and they say there’s nothing they can do for their mistake. So I felt as if we paid a premium price to wait a lot. I would recommend doing this tour but with a different company.

The tour was fantastic and our guide, Erika, was a dream. The day was cloudy, cold and raining but that didn’t dampen the experience. Be sure to do check directly with the touring company. Viator gave us the wrong meeting place.

This vendor is terrible. Did not do what he sold. Paid for 6 hours got 3 hours and refused to refund. It was $1200 tour. Viator was of no help. Not worth booking through their service.

Wonderful views, close to Lucerne with easy walking to take the gondola and cable car to the top, then down on the cog railway to the lake. Much to do at the top including food and various short walks.

We had a private tour with six friends. Rose met us at our hotel right on time and spent six hours with us on boats, cog wheel trains, cable cars and buses. It was the best tour we had all week and she was excellent in directions and history

the guide informed us 1 hour before we were supposed to meet that they had covid and had to cancel - we had to scramble to try to make something of our day in Lucerne - no back up was provided because the company said they were too small - ridiculous!
