What To Expect

Choose from four daily lesson times, and meet your surfing instructor at a central location in town. A student-to-teacher ratio of no more than four-to-one ensures personalized attention from instructors, all of whom are local experts who have been surfing in Costa Rica for years. Grab a provided surfboard and head out to the beach to get started.

Lessons are customized to match your experience level, whether you're a complete beginner or a novice surfer wanting to work on your skills. Start out on solid ground to learn essentials of board positioning, paddling, popping up, and stance. The lesson also covers how to ‘read’ waves and basics of surf etiquette and safety so you can join Tamarindo’s surf community with confidence.

Next, head out into the ocean to try what you learned. With warm water and steady, mid-size waves, Tamarindo is a perfect spot to learn to surf. Success is guaranteed — if you don't get up on a wave during your first 2-hour lesson, the second lesson is free!
