Sept 11, 2026: Troodos Mountain Adventures: Who decided that 10:30 AM is too early for wine? Because our guide, Maria, firmly rejected that myth.
Here’s a recap of our Troodos Mountains adventure:
Stop 1: Constantinou Winery – Where science meets sips. They use a refractometer to check grape sweetness before letting high-tech machinery handle the magic.
Stop 2: Lion Spirit Winery – We kicked things off with Xynisteri (Cyprus’s favorite local white grape) and wrapped up with Commandaria. Fun fact: It got its name during the Crusades when the Knights of St. John set up their headquarters (the Commanderie) here! They even have a rare “Black Amber” vintage that costs a pretty penny.
The Lunch Break – Sumptuous, flawless, and completely necessary after all those tastings.
Stop 3: Ayia Mavri – Owned by a 92-year-old doctor whose passion for winemaking is goals. We easily cleared 4+ wines per stop, but his Commandaria? Absolute chef’s kiss. It was so velvety, rich, and smooth it’s no wonder they call it the “wine of kings”!
Naturally, we had to smuggle home a bottle of Commandaria—a legendary blend of Xynisteri and Mavro—so a piece of Cyprus stays with us.
Between her world-traveler stories, dancer moves, cheerleader energy, and skydiver guts, Maria kept us on our toes. Truly, what more could you ask for? 🍇🚁✨

No space at all in the car for 6 people for very long travel time.
The company was not flexible at all
And service was very bad

Thank you Viator for the abundant word-count allowance you provide for review responses - because I'm gonna need all the characters for this one! The VERY FIRST 1 star review this specific listing (Vino Venture with pickup from Larnaca) has received out of 109 reviews over it's lifetime of 5years. And the VERY FIRST 1 star review out of 582 Viator reviews for our Vino Venture tour in general (all pickup locations) over the last 5years. Happy to provide links to all listings if anyone would like to fact-check these stats ;)
This participant started by booking his group of 5 FROM LARNACA but then stated a pickup location IN AYIA NAPA (over an hour away from Larnaca). We promptly contacted him as soon as the booking came in to explain that he had booked onto the wrong option and sent him the correct option with pickup FROM AYIA NAPA and the relevant availability for that option. He was given 2 dates within the same week for availability with pickup from Ayia Napa at his location. He insisted that he only wanted the date he had booked and that he would arrange a taxi to Larnaca. We also sent info for the intercity bus routes, as a cheaper alternative, to be helpful. He then proceeded to ask for a discount to compensate for the taxi - we politely & clearly explained that this isn't possible and that it is his choice if he wants to join from Larnaca rather than book the correct tour option from Ayia Napa on a date with Ayia Napa availability. Of course we also offered a full refund since we could not go ahead with his requested date from his Ayia Napa location. We eventually arranged a pickup point on the outskirts of Larnaca (towards Ayia Napa) to help him with the cost of the taxi as much as possible.
On the day of the tour, the guide ran a little late getting to this location but generally no issues picking up his group of 5. He then starts messaging me to complain that there is another participant in the vehicle and that the tour is not private. We explained that the Viator experience he booked clearly states it is a shared group tour rather than a private tour & clearly states group maximum of 6 participants. I sent him screenshots showing this information and then the complaint evolved into a problem of comfort within the vehicle. Again, our Viator description page clearly shows a photo of the vehicle along with the information that 6 participants is the maximum group number. More screenshots were sent and the messages stopped. It should also be noted that the guide informed us he was sleeping across the back seats most of the day - so seems it was comfortable enough for that.
The complaints of course continued throughout the day - at the winery the poor winery owner got confused with timings (as we had other groups also booked there that day) and was not quite ready when this group arrived. Although, this lovely old man quickly sorted everything and the tour & tasting went smoothly and as usual - the fact that the winery owner looked surprised when they arrived was something negative and worth a message of complaint. Great. We asked the guide to check in with him and she said he seemed happy with everything, he explained this was a company outing and he was just doing his job being the manager and checking on things. Despite that update, we instructed the guide to purchase a bottle of special reserve sweet wine from us here in the office as a gesture of goodwill. After all, we are understanding people that realise sometimes information gets missed which can affect expectations and then those not being met can be disappointing, even if we are not ultimately at fault. At the end of the day - all we can do is include the info and hope people read through things properly.
Later in the day he then contacts again to ask if we can find a way to get his group back to Ayia Napa as compensation for everything that's gone wrong (the taxi he had to organise because he booked onto the wrong tour option / the 15min delay due to the pickup location arranged to accommodate him / the private tour he never booked / the uncomfortable transport that was comfortable enough to fall asleep in / the surprised winery owner that still delivered everything promised). We explained that our guide, who starts at around 07:00 at the CTT vehicle (to make sure it's ready, clean and full gas) will already be getting back to Larnaca around 19:00 after finishing pickups with the outskirts drop-off arranged for them. Yet he still wants her to drive all the way to Ayia Napa to save the company cost of a taxi fare which would mean her returning to Larnaca around 21:00. As there are also very strict rules for how long our guides can drive/work during a day - we explain this and apologise to say it's not possible. He then informs us he will be writing this bad review. Of course we expected nothing less! It should also be noted that our solo participant has given a 5 star review for this exact same day / tour ;)
Maria was prompt and provided excellent service. Every winery and the restaurant were arranged without incident. Maria was friendly and kept us on track without rushing. Good value.

The wine tour experience was honestly the highlight of my trip. The entire team was so lovely, welcoming and kind! I thoroughly enjoyed my entire day and would definitely come back to do the tour again!

This is a fabulous tour. We had Helena as a guide and she is enthusiastic as well as being very knowledgeable - what a legend. The wineries we visited were really good as well as being picturesque. Also the value for money is great you really get a whole day, some great wine and shared experiences. Lunch was also good in a traditional location. Just Fabulous.

I had an excellent experience with Helena as our expert and friendly host. We visited four wineries, each offering a different take on wine production in the Troodos mountains. We sampled several good to very good wines, including Commandaria, at Zambartas, Malia, and the unique Ayia Mavra. We also tried the blue wine at Linos. Lunch and treats in Omodos were delicious, and visiting the Timios Stavros monastery and the Constantinou church was a further treat for the eyes. Helena was welcoming and informative and a joy to talk to. I highly recommend this tour, and I'd do it all over again if I could!

All went well and on-time. Three wineries typical of Cyprus wines and grapes. Lunch was appropriately local cuisine and in a local mountain town square with a lot of shopping. Knowledgable tour guide knew where to go for the best experiences.

Thanks for the lovely review! We're so glad you had a great time overall :) Your tour group was 6 people plus the driver and our vehicles take 8 maximum so it's a shame you felt it was cramped. Of course we could take 5 people but the ticket price would then have to be raised substantially to cover this especially as most of our bookings come in pairs so we would then have to take into account that our standard group size would likely become 4pax each time. With regards to stop for photos and feeling the schedule was a bit rushed... the guide has to see how the day goes and then compensate at certain stops in order to get all the locations in before they close. This is generally not an issue and really depends on the pace of the group. But of course participants are welcome and encouraged to share with their guide if they would like to stop somewhere for a pic or would like additional time somewhere ;)
We had an excellent guide, Louisa. It was a memorable day, a must do for everyone who wants to visit Cyprus. Good wines, food, landscapes, nice people. Cyprus is our favourite country to visit. Excellent tour, thank you!

The tour operator had very good communication in advanced tp the tour. They showed up on time and the transportation was very comfortable. The tpur guide Georgina was very knowledgeable and funny and entertained us very well during the day.
The places and selected products to taste were just perfect and the lunch was the best indeed.

A fantastic day exploring the beautiful mountains and wineries of Cyprus. Our guide Demi was excellent and knew alot about wine and the history. The lunch that is included was great - there were so many dishes to try! There were 3 wineries and I lost count of the number of wines we tried. A great day out if you want to pull yourself away from the pool or beach

We wanted to see small family run wineries, and that's exactly what we got. We met people who really cared about the wine they made and it showed in the glass. All that and a fab meze lunch. Plus of course our guide and driver Demi. You made the day!

If you are coming to Larnaca on hot summertime the best solution is to escape to the mountains and drink some wine directly from the winery.

We spent the day with our great guide Theodora, she came to pick us up from the hotel and waited for us patiently (we were a bit late).
the Tour was fantastic, lots of information and fun. The wine was amazing, in each place the people were very nice and explained everything we wanted to know.
The lunch was amazing, just delicious and the restaurant manager played an I strument for, we danced and laughed and was just perfect.
Theodore is a very great guide, has a lot of information about everything tour raleted (or not related), friendly, patient and fun.

Theodora was an amazing guide! She is knowledgeable and personable. This is is a great tour for those interested in wine. It is a full day with a visit to 3 wineries and a traditional taverna mezze lunch, so come hungry. We were fortunate to have a wonderful group which is limited to 6. I can’t recommend this tour enough!

Teodora is agreat guide, lots of information about Cyprus and it's wine making history. Whole trip was not rushed in any way. Great lunch while tasting wariety of Cyprian cuisine. Pick up was right on time.

What a great way to to see the mountain side of Cyprus. Great Wine, food and scenic views on this tour. As we visited three wineries and the owners gave us tours and explained the fundamentals of wine making. It was definitely one of our favourite tours of our vacation.

I never knew that a wine tasting tour could feel really perfect and ended me being a totally different person in terms of:
✅ appreciating small locall wine producers who are very passionate about the wine making process up to their sunset years 🍷 and
✅ drinking wine 🍷 itself in general as opposed to hard liquor with more alcohol % and therefore more sugar and chemicals 😱😱

Our guide Helene, was fabulous. She was extremely knowledgeable about the wineries we were touring, and had many interesting stories of Cypriot history. Not only did we see wineries, we got to ride through the beautiful mountains, have an amazingly great lunch with local specialties, and visit a monastery with a fabulous history. Don’t miss this, it’ll be the best day you spend in Cypress.

Each winery was very different, a good combination to learn about the different ways each looked after and made their wines. Lunch was excellent in a lovely taverna + a short stop in a village with free time to look around.
