"Arrive as strangers, leave as friends." We began our adventure with a trip to the local market. I felt as though I was shopping with a favorite friend. After a wonderful wander and shopping for supplies we went to their lovely home where we donned aprons and began a day of cooking together in an Italian kitchen. It was such fun! Unbelievable. We made tiramisu, squash blossom appetizers, pasta from scratch (like you read about in novels) and sauce. Hours passed like minutes. We then ate our delicious and beautiful creations on their lovely outdoor patio, adding wine and conversation to our dining. It's impossible to describe what a wonderful, memorable, treasured experience it was. Such lovely people. I will hold it near my heart forever.
Graziella and Giovanni are welcoming and friendly hosts. Our market tour was short due to weather and ship docking delays, but we were able to communicate easily and still do that part. It was fun learning about the local foods and food culture. The cooking class itself is in their home, and Graziella and Giovanna welcomed us like we were new friends. Graziella is a great teacher and we learned to make pasta on the traditional "guitar" equipment. The food was excellent and classic. Lastly, their cats were also excellent hosts and observers of our cooking techniques. We recommend this tour to anyone in Civitavechia. You get to be a part of a local family and learn their traditional recipes. It's a unique experience that will talk about for years.
