Lots of walking and stairs, but well worth it!! Tour was for 12, but there were only two of us, so we got personal attention. Our Tour guide Ikki was young and friendly, spoke excellent English, and was a Kyota native, so he was comfortable with where we were going. Because we went out at 5pm, we were treated to the sunset, making the last part of the tour very magical.

It was a pleasure meeting Ikki—he was an incredibly knowledgeable and engaging guide. Walking through Fushimi Inari, he explained the sponsorship of the torii gates, and how each shrine holds its own unique significance. From shrines where students pray for good marks to ones where visitors come to welcome new beginnings in love, every stop had a story behind it. Our guide was amazing- we ended up being the only two people in the tour and so got an extra 90 mins of exploring beyond what we initially were meant to have with our guide. The tour was very informative, it’s worth doing to understand the importance of temples and shrines in Japan.

We had an excellent time with Yuri. He was so easy to talk to and friendly. We went to some shrines and temples in an evening walk. He explained the difference between the two and as we walked to different areas. He was also helpful with the trains and finding a place for dinner for our large group of 9. So kind and informative! Ikki, our amazing local tour guide, communicated in advance and met us on time. No one else had signed up for the tour so we ended up with a private tour by default. Ikki had laminated chart with explanations and graphics. He is from Kyoto and knew so much about the history and culture. We moved very quickly from location to location, and he explained things along the way. The best part, he took photos of us at every location with his phone and AirDrop them at the end. It was fast paced and we saw a lot. He was very attentive and we would highly recommend him!

An amazing tour where you can sightsee and learn about the history and culture. Ikki is an amazing guide and knows the area well including the best spots to get pictures. This was our favorite tour in Kyoto. Our local guide was very personable and full of interesting information that was delivered in a fun way. He was also very understanding when two older members of a different family with us on the tour had to take frequent breaks. Would highly recommend if you’re interested in knowing more about what you’re seeing at the many shrines in Kyoto. Also the pictures the guide took and got to us very quickly turned out amazing! A highlight of our trip for sure.

If you are at all interested in Japanese history, culture, language, Shintoism, architecture, walking, etc. then book this tour now! We had very high expectations for this tour after reading the reviews and seeing the photos of groups gone before, but those expectations were entirely blown out of the water!! Our guide, Ikki-san, was brilliant! He was friendly, open and helpful. He clearly wanted us to have the best experience possible, both on the tour and on our trip in general. Ikki-san answered all of our questions, from ones about culture and language, to others about specific public transit use and options during our stay. Not only did Ikki-san take us through well known spots, he also took us to many beautiful alleys and laneways that were completely empty of people, but full of charm! We were coached at Fushimi Inari and Yasaka in how to pay our respects at the shrine, while also getting deep explanations of the myth and lore surrounding them. We learned about the relationship stone at Yasui Konpirangu and gave it a try. We learned why it was so deathly important to walk carefully down sannen-zaka and ninen-zaka. I mentioned I'd hurt my knee earlier on thee trip, so Ikki-san took us to nade ushi at Kodaiji Tenmangu to pray for a quick recovery! Oh, and after our tour finished, within an hour, we were sent 40+ beautiful photos and a couple of short videos documenting a few key experiences. On looking back, it was definitely the right idea for us to make this our first experience of both Fushimi Inari Taisha and the Gion district; a perfect way to introduce us to the magic of Higashiyama. This tour gets a 12/10 from me. 6 stars, even. I will tell anyone who will listen to me that they should be booking this tour! When I come back to Kyoto next, I'll be booking again, zero hesitations!

Ikki is the Best of Kyoto!

Ikki took such wonderful care of us during our first evening in Kyoto! We were pretty low energy after a day of traveling (and some really dreary weather), but his passion and excitement to show us what Kyoto had to offer really kept us going! It was a very chill evening, we covered so much ground in just 2.5 hours — he was incredibly organized and informed, he is so well-versed in the history of Kyoto and did such a good job incorporating some fun tidbits! Walking around town with Ikki truly felt like a friend was showing us the city, he’s easy to talk to and so happy to be helpful anyway that he can. He took some really, seriously fantastic photos of our group (difficult to do at night!) which we’ll cherish forever! We parted ways at a yakiniku restaurant he recommended (and spoke to the host to help get us seated) and wow the restaurant was phenomenal! Such an excellent recommendation. Overall, our Kyoto visit was so much better because of Ikki and this tour, and we are so so grateful for his time, guidance, and company.

De gids was zeer vriendelijk en hield goed rekening met mijn echtgenote die minder goed te been is. Het bezoek aan het Fushimi-Inari heiligdom was geweldig: we kwamen er aan bij licht en tijdens het bezoek werd het donker. Met de lichtjes zijn de duizenden tori's echt feeëriek. Ga er niet overdag naartoe want dan is het veel te druk. De wijk Gion was ook heel interessant. Spijtig dat we geen Geisha hebben gezien. De huisjes geven een goede indruk van het leven in de wijk. De pagode is ook de moeite waard. Het is wel veel wandelen. Onze gids was boeiend. We raden deze tour aan.
