Itinerary

In the morning, meet your chauffeur at your Istanbul hotel for a transfer to Istanbul Airport and begin your day adventure to Cappadocia. After short flight, land at Kayseri International Airport and meet your air-conditioned minivan for a 1.5-hour ride to beautiful Rose Valley.

Arrive and begin a relaxing walking tour with your local guide. Learn about the rose-colored rocks whose tone changes during the day is the reason for Rose Valley’s etymology. Then, marvel at the valley’s weathered volcanic monoliths, craggy pinnacles, fairy chimneys and dense orchards and vineyards. Continue to Rose Valley’s cave churches and hear how their were used by monks before the end of the first millennium.

Onward to a historical deserted rock village filled with ancient houses and churches, known as Old Çavuşin. Here, capture stunning shots of creepy houses and admire the imposing Basilica of St John the Baptist which rests on a clifftop overlooking Çavuşin.

Take a break for lunch at a traditional restaurant (see the sample menu below in the Itinerary) and then head to the old town of Ortahisar to gaze up at the commanding presence of Ortahisar Castle, a Byzantine-era fortification. Stand in awe as you view this 295-foot monolith chiseled into the image of a giant honeycomb. Climb up its narrow passage and pass carved rooms and etched out chambers. At the top, glimpse over the city for remarkable views.

Next, voyage to Kaymakli Underground City and delve into the winding network of subsurface tunnels, living quarters, stables, kitchens and cellars. Hear how this well preserved city was once home to Christians who sought refuge from persecution.

Finally, spend time looking at astounding cave homes at Pigeon Valley. Learn about locals who bred pigeons in their homes to collect poop for fertilizer! As the day comes to a close, journey back to Kayseri Airport to catch your flight to Istanbul. Then, enjoy a transfer back to your hotel where your tour ends.

Please note: Ortahisar Castle may be undertaking renovation, if it is entrance will not be permitted.

If you have limited time in Turkey, great way to see Cappadocia from Istanbul.

Bindesh_S, Dec 2023
We had only a few days before catching a cruise from Istanbul. With an interest in the natural geology of the Cappadocia, we took a chance on this single-day tour to Cappadocia from Istanbul. Flew early from Istanbul to Kayseri and were promptly picked up by a comfortable van and driven to the Cappadocia area. A knowledgeable guide joined us from Cappadocia and took us around for 6-7 hours covering the most important sites in the Cappadocia region. Highlights were Underground City, various photogenic spots, hikes, and the Ceramic workshop-museum, and ended with a great early dinner. Both Driver and guide were well aware of return flight times and handled sightseeing as such. The balloon ride was not in the planning as it requires a minimum of 2-3 nights (Early morning weather-dependent activity).

Our guide was great and ultimetely we had a great time. More organization and communication is needed as we didnt know where we were going after pickup and we didnt know a transfer back to the airport was arranged and we took a taxi.

Amazing experience and a must-do if you are in Istanbul for a shorter vacation!

Adnan_K, Aug 2023
Be ready for a long day of fun and adventure! If you are in Istanbul for a few days and you have not been to Cappadocia this is definitely a tour you should do. I went on this tour with my girlfriend and our day started with a 4 AM pickup from our hotel in Istanbul and we were dropped off back at our hotel at around 11 PM. It covers all the major attractions in Cappadocia and includes a delicious lunch. The tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable about the history of the region.

Response from Host, Aug 2023

Dear Adnan_K, Thank you so much for praising this tour and we are so happy to see that we exceed what we have aimed to, creating good memories through unique experiences. Hope to welcome you again! Sincerely Yours, Batuhan

Beautiful scenery and friendly people

Michael_Q, Jun 2023
Cappadocia was unbelievable! We didn’t know exactly what to expect going into it but we were blown away by the sights and unique history of the area. Our guide Gökay was very knowledgeable and made sure we saw as much as possible even though our tour had a shorter timeframe than the typical Cappadocia experience. We definitely wish we had stayed there one or two nights to soak it all in rather than a day trip but it was still great.

Response from Host, Jun 2023

Dear Michael_Q, Thank you so much for praising your compliments and we are so happy to be able to accomplish what we aim as a team. We hope you to host in Cappadocia for a longer time in the near future so that you may discover many other things. Sincerely Yours, Batuhan

Everything was great! Our tour guide was amazing! Really nice guy, made the tour much more interesting. Loved the sights and the underground city was really cool!

Disappointed

davidi070547, Sep 2019
This trip had so much potential but the organisation left me disappointed. To get there and back to Istanbul involved multiple pickups and transfers but little of this was communicated to you so you were often left wondering what happens next. Once there I was attached to a 2 day tour for a few hours, with a tour guide who did little more than tell you the place we had arrived at and that we would be leaving in 30 mins. Minimal commentary. Too much of the time was focussed on taking us to a pottery, carpet place, jewellery seller where presumable he got a commission. To cap it off, on arrival back in Istanbul in the evening there was no driver there even though it was part of the trip and I had to make my own way back to my hotel. It was not good enough for what you paid. There must be better tours.

The trip begins with an early morning flight from Istanbul to Kayseri where we were picked up by an van for a 60 minute drive to Cappadocia. This region is absolutely beautiful, with incredible geological formations and the historic, and lovely, cave churches. Our guide Hafiz was excellent. He was very interesting and had extensive knowledge of the region's geology and history. We also had a very delicious lunch at a cave restaurant and visited a ceramics factory.

Incredible experience hiking in the 'Red Rose Valley' and the 'Kaymakli Underground Museum' was so heartfelt learning about the history. The landscape and breathtaking views of 'Ortahisar' were simply amazing. The lunch was at a old Cave and it was brilliant the way the place was set up. Really added to the experience. Hafiz our guide was brilliant he was very informative and left nothing out. He also answered every question he was asked. Full of knowledge and an amazing guide. He was polite and always kept us in the loop for everything we were doing and had planned to do. His love and admiration for his home town Cappadocia was heartfelt. Highly recommend this tour as Cappadocia has so much to offer. Such an amazing experience!

I really want to commend Hufzullah Ekmen as well as all the drivers for the excellent services and safe driving they provided during the private tour to Cappadocia July 11, 2016. Their hospitality was exceptional and is greatly appreciated. This pleasant trip will be remembered for a long, long time. Also a big thank you to Ferudan Bayram for his administrative support in Istanbul.

Had an amazing day in the fantastic place!! Very early morning start in Istanbul but everything through the airport, shuttle transfers and meeting the tour guides was seamless. The guide was great. Informative without overloading with info. He was also happy to adjust things to our groups pace. A good lunch too! All in all, a great tour and well worth the effort for the day trip from Istanbul!! Just be prepared for a long day!

Pictures can't describe the visual experience of seeing Cappadocia. My guide was great in showing the area and explaining the history of Turkey. It's a long day from 4:30AM to 9:30 PM , but is worth it on any vacation to Turkey.

D D, Dec 2015
Cappadocia was on my list of places to visit in Turkey, and I'm certainly glad I took the time to visit! Although the tour started off on a rough note with a mix up with the pick-up time 2 hours earlier than noted, thus causing me to run out the door in my pajamas, I was brought from my Istanbul hotel to the airport where I was able to quickly put myself together and board a flight to Cappadocia. The rest of the trip went very well and without a hitch! The guide in Cappadocia had superb English and went out of her way to provide any additional service or piece of information needed for our small group of 3. We visited all the sites listed in addition to two others which my guide wanted to share with me because I had missed the previous days activities which the other two in our group had participated in during their arrival a few days earlier. I highly recommend this tour, as it is not to be missed for those traveling through Turkey. Simply outstanding!

ST Oz, Oct 2015
The tour itself by Deniz and the driver were excellent, with good explanation of what to expect and toured the areas with enough time and not rushed. However, the organisation by the local tour operator was found lacking. For starters, there was insufficient information provided prior to the tour to even know what to expect. All I could glean was the information provided on the reviews here instead, so here is the 411 on this tour. You need to confirm with the local tour operator your hotel pick up time. They will pick you up at 430am and take you to the airport on the Asia side of Istanbul for your flight to Kayseki, which is not as busy as Atatark airport which is good and has a small shop and lots of eateries, but was picked up too early, with 90 minutes to spare wandering around this airport. The service of the escort was good though, and don't forget to bring your passport. Following a flight that takes about 90 mins, you will be picked up by the Kayseki airport shuttle which is most disorganised, with NO information what so ever. After waiting 45 minutes for other passengers, you are taken in the minivan drive for 1 hour to Cappadocia, and people are dropped off at various hotels and you are eventually dropped off by the side of the road to meet your tour guide. From there onwards it is good, as long as you are adventurous. There is a clautrophobic part in the underground tunnels which is not great for tall/big people but very good part of the tour. Then you can request to be taken to a carpet factory, which was great, and those who don't get dropped off back to their hotels. Even with the carpet diversion, there was 1 hour wait at the airport for my flight back to Ataturk airport which is a chaotic airport in itself and after waiting some more for the transfer, you will be dropped off back at the hotel at about 930pm. Great tour for those with little time, but if you have time, stay at Cap overnight and do the balloon tour in the morning. Heard that was great.

Jennifer G, Oct 2015
Fantastic!! Unique landforms we will probably never see again. Fairy chimneys, cave houses, underground city of Kaymakli. The only de traction was the hard sell at the carpet making factory. We wasted 11/2 hours here and nobody wanted to buy a rug or carpet. No problems with the flight, great guide. Long day but highly recommended.

Susan W, Oct 2015
Loved the trip and the guide. Wonderful experience. The only down side was the amount of transition time getting there and back, and long waits on the tarmac at the airports. If I had to do it again, I would stay overnight in Cappadoccio and do the hot air balloon ride in the morning.
