The tour with our guide Riku was so wonderful. His knowledge of the history made this tour one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. Riku was able to answer all our questions and give us insight we would not have come away with if we had done an unguided tour. I highly recommend Riku as a tour guide for Himeji Castle.
Great review given of history and the historical period. Was very patient and answered all of our questions related to the castle and Japanese history. He was very friendly and aware of American customs. He communicated the meeting spot very well and made sure we got back to the train station safely on a very rainy day. His English was very good.

Riku is a intelligent, and enthusiastic guide that takes great pride in showing off Himeji Castle. Riku shared information about the castle with pride, and made sure we got the best photos.
He asked about my wife and I and had great tips on what to do on our trip, not limited to the Himeji area. We greatly enjoyed our tour, thanks to Riku.
It was really fun. Our guide new we loved stamps and personally helped us find a stamp and stamp book!
Riku-san did a good job with the tour of the Himeji castle and the beautiful surrounding gardens. He was communicated in advance (via WhatsApp) the specific meeting location a day ahead.
The tour started with a visit of Princess Sen’s residence, which is beautifully preserved. The building was not busy so we were able to see things in detail, without rushing.
Then, we went to the Himeji castle, where it was extremely busy. It takes some effort to go through the castle as it has a basement plus 6 levels. There is only one way up and one way down, using narrow stairways, with shoes off (need to be carried in a shoe bag that is provided onsite). Riku-san was thorough pointing out many of the architectural features for defense, storage areas for ammunitions and weapons, and even a hide-out room.
The last part of the tour was to walk the beautiful gardens with full bloom cherry blossoms. The day was overcast and rainy, but it was still beautiful.
Overall, I had a great time visiting Himeji with Riku-san!
Our guide, Riku, was a lovely young man. He sent detailed instructions of our meeting point well in advance. He certainly knew the history of the Castle and we throughly enjoyed our tour with him. Plus, Riku allowed time for us ‘older’ customers to rest at intervals.
