Start your open-sided tram sightseeing tour of Grand Turk at the tram station near the cruise terminal at the Southern end of the island.
From there, the tram takes you all the way to the island's northern tip and back in about 3 hours. Feeling the sun and the tropical breeze on your skin is a pleasant way to tour the island while learning about its history.
Cannons, windmills, churches, inns, and other historical attractions keep your guide busy pointing out the local sights. Pass many wild horses and donkeys, the Space Capsule, and Governor's Beach on your way to Cockburn Town, where you'll stop to sample some local foods and have a cool drink (own expense). Disembark in historic Cockburn Town and visit some of the local shops and restaurants.
Back on the tram, pass Her Majesty's Prison and the National Building, both historical relics with interesting colonial architecture. On your way to the Grand Turk Lighthouse at the very northern end of the island, pass Crabtree Park and North Creek. Get a history lesson in Grand Turk's once-booming salt industry as you pass the natural salt ponds, known as "salinas". Dating back to the 1600s, these salt ponds were once the lifeblood of the islands, and are now home to flamingos and other tropical birds.
After getting your fill of local sights and history, your tour ends back at the tram station.

Great opportunity to see beautiful scenery and learn the history of the beautiful island. A beautiful gift of an experience for my girls.

Operator canceled the tour due to lack of tourists not enough to start the tour per the operator and will refund the charge

The driver/guide, Doug, was excellent - very knowledgeable and friendly. The only negative was the amount of noise generated by the tram’s motor. At times it was too loud to hear guide comments. A suggestion would be to sit in the back car of the tram away from the engine noise.

Great tour of the island. Doug our driver and tour guide talked
non stop about the island, history etc. very enthusiastic.
Joyce_G, Mar 2026
Very informative and interesting. Enjoyed the various stops and had time to explore. Our guide was very nice and accommodating

An open-air tram ride around the island of Grand Turk stopping at some sightseeing spots as well as shopping spots. Rest rooms and opportunities for buying refreshments are available. It was a little difficult to find the meeting spot. The people were knowledgeable and friendly.

We walked quite a ways outside the perimeter of the port to find our tour was delayed 1.5 hours. The tram was a scooter type 2 stroke engine that was loud and couldn’t hear the guide. It smelled of gas/oil mixture and very bumpy. We shoulda stayed on the ship!
MARYANN_K, Mar 2026
Tram was an hour late. Some customers left
as they had other excursions booked for the afternoon.
Once on tram the guide was informative.
A good way to see the highlights of the island.

This was a terrible tour. You could not hear a thing the tour director said. He even apologized. The places we went to were less than exciting. I would like my money back. I have used viator many times and this was the first time I was disappointed. Judith Moll

A great way to see the Whole island, the views, the donkeys, meet the locals, the lighthouse. Fun. Relaxing & Professional.

The tour started off poorly as there was no representative from Viator at the Cruise Terminal. Other tour operators had a kiosk. The written directions were ambiguous and we spent 30 minutes walking around trying to find our way. Finally after questioning other operators and terminal staff, we were directed to walk across the parking lot, along a path, outside the main gates, along the road to 'a local town'. As we are seniors with mobility issues, this was not an easy task in the heat. We waited there for another 10 minutes past our scheduled booking time. A viator rep finally arrived and said our tour would be delayed and we could wait at the yellow tables without charge and buy water for $2. from a nearby vendor. She never identified herself but was wearing a Viator shirt. When I questioned the delay, I was told to relax because I was on vacation and rudely dismissed. Then she left. Our tour was an hour and 15 minutes delayed.
The driver/guide was very knowledgeable but it was difficult to hear him over the noise of the Tram engine. The tram was not in good working condition. At times the guide was driving and adjusting the connection for his microphone as it kept cutting out.
Viator was recommended to us by our daughter who has always had good experiences with the tour company. This could have been a one-off situation but it was not handled well by the representative.
We will think twice before we book another Viator experience.

Never went on it. Map to get to pick-up point accurate but nothing at the site, a person, building or sign to say you were where you were supposed to be. Someone showed up 5 minutes instead of 15min before tour start to say there would be a 15min delay and to stay at some shaded picknick benches. After 30min wait with no functional restroom nearby and almost a mile from ship we left and will ask for a full refund. Heard later the Tram broke down on tour going on before ours. Again, give yourself plenty of time to get to meeting place early because have found at Grand Turk, Amber Cove Puerto Plata, and St Thomas, the meeting point map given or stated meeting location is not necessarily accurately shown, stated, or identified once you get there! Daughter & son-in-law highly recommended it. In fact, this was their 2nd visit to Grand Turk and were repeat customers...also they were the ones who informed us their tram broke down. Small world. Need better communication and preparation. Sorry.

Experience cancelled due to equipment breakdown. We took a taxi tour of island which was very disappointing. On the way we observed 2 “trams” parked by the side of the road that appeared to not have been driven in quite some time.
Edward_B, Mar 2026
50% of the time microphone did not worked in 2nd tram.
Tram broke down by the lighthouse, had to wait for mechanic to fix it.
Skipped food tasting, no beverage provided.
Paul_C, Mar 2026
The tour was overbooked and we were not able to take the tour. I am waiting for a refund from the tour operator
lkwerling, Mar 2026
It was awful!! As other reviews stated, the 9:00 tour started at 9:50. Constant problems with the microphone. Then, the team broke down at the lighthouse and we had to wait 40 minutes in the heat for a mechanic. Got back an hour and a half late. The tram needs desperate repairs. He claimed he had a flat and it was in the shop the night before. Missed stops because he couldn’t take it out of gear. Disappointed in Viator for selling this tour.
Geralyn_M, Feb 2026
Great Island tour. Our guide was great. Things do run a bit on “island time” so schedules are a little flexible
Suzanne_C, Feb 2026
I wish the guide would have talked more abt the lighthouse, the shipwrecks, possibly slavery and John Glenn’s splashdown. However maybe he did and I could not understand him. It was loud enough just not very clear.

First, I booked this tour 6 months ago. The night before the excursion I received an email saying there was no room for us in the 9am excursion and we would have to take the 11:30 excursion. Not happy about this. Then, our 11:30 excursion departed at noon. We returned at 2:30 - one hour later than scheduled. I did like the program though but I would have liked my time to be respected.
MARY_R, Feb 2026
More than 60 people were booked for 40 tram seats. Disappointed-could not get on. Requested refund..
Rachel_F, Feb 2026
The tram never showed up and there was zero communication from the company on the island. Terrible experience, would not recommend.
Lisa_G, Feb 2026
Supposed to have a 9 AM tour. We were finally met by a representative from the tour company who checked us in and gave us wristbands. Walked us to an area in front of a restaurant and told us to wait at the picnic benches. This was at 9 o’clock. At about 1015 we were told that they’re coming. Well, people started slowly just leaving and I actually stuck it out till 1030 and then finally left. Terrible terrible, low budge outfit. After seeing how the people handled the whole check-in process (it was almost like their first day of doing this) and then the whole disappearing for an hour and then showing up and said oh they’re coming. I think I’m almost glad that they didn’t show up because I can’t even imagine what that tram would’ve actually been like to ride in. Oh yeah, we were told that there was maintenance issues and then we were told they had to get gas and then somebody else who worked around the area said oh they’re probably out trying to collect more people because the tram isn’t full. Who knows what the real story was but I think I dodged a bullet.

The tour is non-existent. I booked and paid and went to the meeting place but there was no representative and no tram. I was told by another vendor that this tour has not been offered for a while since the tram broke down. So my question is why it’s still on the Viator website for booking? And why is there a question now as to whether or not I will receive a refund??! Waiting to hear back and hoping Viator will be held accountable although I was told by a phone agent that it was up to the vendor. Just bad business….
Jozell_B, Feb 2026
It was an entertaining experience on the tram. We had more stops than was expected due to tram problems - Doug said there was water in the fuel tank. However, we were able to see the entire island and had a good experience.
Mary_S, Feb 2026
We had to walk a very long way to get to the tram only to find out it was broken down, and the tour was canceled. We then had to walk a very long way back to the cruise ship.
Jeffrey_D, Feb 2026
We showed up at the meeting place and waited 30 minutes to 45 minutes to be told the tram had broken down and the tour was canceled. We were told we would get a refund still waiting to see that it's been a couple of days I'll give it one or two more before I file a dispute with my credit card
Shelley_T, Feb 2026
Extremely disappointing. The tram was a no go because it was broke down. I was told that I will get refunded. I better be !!!
Donna_S, Feb 2026
Cancelled after making me wait all day. Promised a refund which I haven't seen yet. Extremely disappointed.
Michael_S, Feb 2026
Our driver guide was very informative being a long term native of the island. For the cost of $25 compared to the same excursion from the ship at $79 it was good value to. We saw everything the island had to offer.
Michele_S, Feb 2026
The guide was kind, and friendly.
However, his tram is old, and needs attention. The engine was loud and the microphone system kept stopping about as often as the tram STALLED. He had to go to the engine and tap the —— to restart it no less than 20 times during our tour. The rear car couldn’t even understand his voice was garbled.
He drove past things while you’re trying to hear what it is, without stopping (or pausing) for photos.; Perhaps so the engine wouldn’t stop. He said a lot of words but as you’re cruising past, say like the space shuttle you couldn’t snap a photo. He said his other trams are being upgraded. If that’s the case the next season will be great. He had a great attitude, but Betsy (his tram name) not so good.
The island is just what you’d expect. Small and full of kind people. Shopping and crafters. Easy lookabout.
Would you recommend to a friend. Yes if he fixes his tram. No if he still has the same issues.
