WHEELCHAIR POLICY: We very successfully offers hosted railtours for the independent traveller. Our tours are a combination of train and luxury coach and include a moderate level of physical activity, such as short walks to meeting points etc. Unfortunately even the most modern luxury coaches (buses) are not wheelchair friendly, thus our tours are not suitable for those with mobility issues, and regretfully walkers, wheelchairs and mobility scooters cannot be accommodated on our tours.

Overpriced. Not a first class tour.

Covered a great deal of Ireland with knowledgeable guides. The bus drivers and tour guides were very good as a whole. Railtours Ireland is run by a number of well meaning 70 and 80 year old retired gentleman who need to retire themselves or bring in some younger and female guides. They need to watch their hopefully unintentional sexist and racist comments. This is not a first class tour company as their motto says. As opposed to first class rail and bus tours we were continually shepherded onto buses with 50 or 60 people who were on other tours. The majority of travel is on large buses not trains. The hotel rooms were clean with decent breakfasts and kind staff. They were 3 star not 4 or 5 star hotels. Some of the tour days were far too long - e.g. 14-15 hours. With the large amount we paid for this 6 day tour we expected a great deal more with respect to a true custom tour.

As you acknowledge we cover a great deal of Ireland in this tour and yes some of the days are long but this clearly set out in our itineraries and satisfy the vast majority of our North American guests whose time is at a premium. We are glad that you enjoyed the drivers and guides. Our hotels are all minimum 4*. We've been operating these tours for 27 years in the same format and delighted that they suit the vast majority of our guests.

My mother and I did a trip to Ireland together and chose rail tours to experience outside of Dublin. So glad we did! It was a wonderful experience, all of the guides were extremely knowledgeable and personable. It felt like being with informed friends. All our accommodations were great and all guess work was taken out of it for us. They took care of everything and the one glitch they worked quickly to help us resolve. Could not be happier with out experience.

The agency organized a very beautiful trip. All the guides were very nice and competent. The hotels were beautiful, good placed and clean. We could see a lot of things and know better the local culture. They invested a lot of energy and efforts to be sure we could enjoy our holidays. We are very thankful! It was better than our expectation. We recommend to discover Ireland with this agency. We could explore with them some places in Ireland that are not so well known, at least for us, and they are very beautiful (e.g. Cliffs on Aran Islands, Connemara National Park, Bunratty castle and folk park).
