This is such a fantastic experience. Carlos is super knowledgeable and interesting to talk to. He leads you into a pristine primary rainforest explaining the plants etc encountered along the way. Then you get to swim and float through the river all the way to the beach. Basilisk lizards, monkeys, macaws were all visible. Then you hike along incredibly beautiful, rocky stretches of beach to lunch. Probably my favorite day in Drake! But be warned it is a long hike/day: not for the physically unfit. If you bring a kid who wants to play at the beach or dawdle along the way (and there is a LOT of cool stuff they’ll want to stop and play with), you will end up carrying or dragging that kid a LOT. Overall 10/10 experience for older kids and adventure-seeking adults who want to see it all.

This trip is Costa Rican adventure at its best. Carlos, our guide, has extensive knowledge about the forest, and we enjoyed learning from him as we walked (and slipped) our way through primary forest. Swimming at the waterfall was refreshing. When we got down to Rio Claro to begin the float, we were glad to have life vests to protect our bums from rocks/logs/etc. The float was a lot of fun – because it was the dry season, we had to get out a few times to walk over rapids. When we reached the ocean, we began the beach walk, which was primarily in shade in the forest right alongside the beach. The lunch at the end of the trip was at a small restaurant, and was the best casado of our entire trip. We ended up with a few bumps and scrapes, but had a fantastic time seeing nature from a totally different perspective.
As someone who was nervous about the physical demands of this trip, I’ll add that you should be able to hike moderate inclines and declines for an hour if you’re going to do this trip, but more than anything else, good balance is important. Regarding sizing, you will put a life vest on upside down (legs through armholes, snapped or tied across pelvis) to protect your bum; as long as you can comfortably fit your thighs through the armholes, you will be able to do this.

Carlos is an exceptional local guide with very intimate knowledge of the local plants, and animals Learnt quite a bit. The primary forest is untouched, swim at the waterfall was refreshing, and floating down the river was super relaxing. The traditional Costa Rican lunch at the end of the tour was well worth the wait at the end of the trek along the beautiful beach with no one around. Highly recommend it.

My niece and I loved this tour with Carlos! We had a blast and learned so much from his wealth of knowledge on the local area and Costa Rica as a whole. He took great care of us and this was definitely a highlight of our vacation!

Absolut empfehlenswert!!!
