Our guide Yenrique was fabulous!! He was very funny and we learned a lot about the rain forest. Walking with Yenrique felt very save. The meeting with Alfredo (the man living in the forest) was interesting. We highly recommend this tour even though it was quite tough.

Ik was one of the best things I have ever done. We had a great guide and especially the first stop was super intresting.

Me and my partner had a great time on this tour! Our tour guide, Yen, was so friendly and knowledgeable about the local flora and fauna. On top of that, he made sure to check in with everyone in his group (8 of us, which is a larger group for them) regularly to make sure that we were doing alright. He also kept a steady pace throughout the hike, so while it was definitely difficult at times, as long as you’re reasonably fit you shouldn’t have too much trouble sticking with your group.
Most of the hike was in the shade so that helped in keeping the difficulty manageable. Along with that there were three longer breaks spaced out during the hike. First was visiting Alfredo’s house, a man that’s been living in the jungle for the last 40 years. Second was eating the prepared lunch (which was delicious and sat nicely in our stomachs during the rest of the physical activity of the hike). And last was stopping at the waterfall near the end of the hike for a swim.
Things to prepare for if you plan to take this tour:
- a good portion of the trail was muddy so don’t wear anything you care about getting dirty
- they recommend you bring 2-3 liters of water (two was the right amount for me as a relatively small woman). Single use plastic is allowed but it would probably be more convenient to bring a larger reusable bottle
- there are some water crossings so it’s a good idea to bring some sort of water shoe for those since they’re pretty rocky
- if you plan to swim in the waterfall near the end of the hike, there is no real private area to change into or out of your swimsuit. Though you can kind of step to the side if you’d like. If that’s an issue, you should wear a swimsuit that you’re comfortable walking a lot in
Also while they say that you shouldn’t expect to see animals on this tour due to how thick the primary jungle is, our group saw a couple groups of monkeys, some lizards, and some fun bugs!
Overall it was a great experience and I would do it again!

It is a fantastic experience, if you are willing to walk quite a distance. It is suitable for anyone with a reasonable level of fitness. We walked through mud, rain, sun and rivers and really enjoyed the jungle in full bloom. In rainy season you will end up completely soaked through.

This hike is a challenging one as it does not consist of the almost paved paths as so see so often in Costa Rica. It’s also less traveled as we did not see one other tourist. Yen is a knowledgeable enthusiastic guide. We saw an anteater so we were very lucky as this part of the jungle (as it is not so touristy) the animals don’t see many humans and rather stay away. I really can recommend this hike to people that love real hiking.

We did the full-day adventure in Corcovado with Eduardo and it was one of the best experiences we had in Costa Rica. Having been a guide in Africa before, I immediately recognized Eduardo’s true skills not just his deep knowledge, but also his passion for nature and his commitment to helping others understand its importance. His devotion to preserving the natural world was inspiring, and his personality truly brought the trail to life. This was not just a tour; it was a real adventure and a memorable experience. Highly recommended!

This is an amazing jungle experience. Our tourguide Emilio did an excellent job. He give a lot of information of rainforest and animals. He answers all your questions and takes care of the group, allthough all were fit to walk this trail. You should be able to walk this trail with moderate fitness, but still it is climbing and descending on steep parts, sometimes using a rope. We had a wonderfull day, walking this 17 km trail. And I need to mention Alfredo, living 8n the middle of the rainforest on his own, having an “Magic room” you have to see.

Hi Ronald,
How wonderful to read about your great experience in the jungle! Now you can say that you are real jungle survivors ;)
Alfredo will be a nice memory that you will always have of your trip to Costa Rica.

Hi Kevin,
Sounds great! Thank you for your feedback, pura vida!

Very well organised, andre our tour guide knew a lot about the plants and the environment, it was pleasant listening. It was a tough walk but more than worth it.
Response from Host, Jul 2024
Hi again Sabine,
Great having your feedback about your experience, thank you!! Glad that you enjoyed the tour, pura vida!

We booked the half day tour. Our tour guide was perfecto. He had a broad knowledge and was kind helpful and fun!
The only mishap was my own fault for not reading an email the day prior. Besides that it was an exhilarating 6ish or more hours of an intense hike through primary and secondary rainforest. Seeing all the wildlife bugs, birds, reptiles and mammals alike was a dream come true for the explorer in me. Me4ting the gentleman who lives in the wild place alone was amazing. He was so very interesting and so kind. Really a once in a lifetime person to meet. Our guide answered our questions as best as possible. He was fun with a good sense of humor and was very accommodating and made sure we were safe and cautious when need be. The waterfall was absolutely other worldly beautiful.
Absolutely one of the best experiences of My whole life! I feel like I could achieve anything after a day in that rainforest.
It was not only challenging physically and mentally at times, but gave me a better sense of self worth and what was possible for me to achieve.
Response from Host, Jul 2024

By far my most favorite activity in CR. Andre was a very knowledgeable guide. If you are looking for comfort then dont do this. if you are looking for a challenge and adventure this is for you. This truly feels like an expedition and if youre blessed enough itll start raining hard like it did for us. We were completely soaked, muddy from slipping and climbing, so make sure to dress to get wet and definitely wear full sleeves bc there are ticks and other insects. nothing to worry about though and thats coming from me who isnt a fan of bugs. Pack lots of water, atleast 2L. The terrain changes from flat ground, to downhill climbing to uphill steep inclines. There are ropes in some areas to assist you but we didnt feel the need to use those. Very physically exerting and one of the most challenging hikes I have gone through but certainly manageable and possible to power through with sheer will power and also so worth the experience, especially when you reach the waterfall. I dont think youll find anything this adventurous yet still maintaining certain level of safety
Response from Host, May 2024
Hi Ahmed! Its nice to hear from you again, thank you so much for your feeback we really apreciate it.
We are glad that we really conveyed to you how special this tour and our adventurous spirit is. Our idea is to show you something different about Corcovado in an adventurous, fun and authentic way.
Now you can say that you came to Corcovado and you survived the jungle! Pura Vida!!

Too good not to be better.
Hiking the jungle was a unique opportunity for us. We enjoy hiking. And that’s what it was, a hike. The guide was nice enough but limited in English to provide all the knowledge he had. A lady on our trip severely sprained her ankle 25% of the way into the trip. We had to wait two hours for another guide to provide instruction. We sat for this time. For a 12 mile hike the company should have two guides per group. Regardless it was unique. I liked the provided lunch. The waterfall was awesome. We had an adventure.
Response from Host, Apr 2024
Hi James!
I hope you are all doing well. First we would like to thank you for the feedback, as we like to read about the experiences of our fellow adventurers and where necessary learn about details to improve.
In your case the truth is that it was an unforeseen situation, which is really out of our control. When you go to the jungle in a group, people can fall, twist an ankle, get overwhelmed by the heat... These are uncontrollable situations for which we always contact you before the tour to explain and give you an idea of what the hike is going to be like.
We are sorry that you had to wait that extra time for the person to be attended, that day we had a communication problem, but we still tried to solve it in the fastest and most effective way possible.
Anyway we are glad to know that at least you enjoyed the rest of the hike, the forest and the waterfall. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
Pura Vida!
Jess_H, Jan 2024
The best thing about this hike is that you do not see anyone else, literally! No crowds - just your group and the jungle. You have to have a guide to enter the Corcovado National Park, and I think this is definitely the best tour to do. I would say though that it was really not particularly challenging, if you hike regularly and are in relatively good shape. There are also lots of breaks and the vast majority of the hike is pretty much flat. The scenery is fantastic too. Our guide was knowledgeable and able to explain about the area. He was young and was finding his way with learning skills for leading groups and communicating with clients. I am sure he will become a very good guide with further experience leading groups.
Response from Host, Feb 2024
Hey Jess!!! Great to hear from you again. Thank you so much for your comment, we appreciate you taking the time to write about your good experience with us.
We are glad to read that you still enjoyed the tour. The primary forest is a unique place that has so much to offer. Regarding the hike, you have to keep in mind that if you go with more people the group has to adapt to the dynamics of everyone. We always recommend that you go without expectations of the jungle, and let yourself be surprised by it, as it is an unpredictable place.
The guide you went with is young and still in a learning process. He still has a lot of very good skills that he employs for each type of client group he interacts with and puts a lot of enthusiasm into his work.
Anyway, thank you for your advice, we will take your comment into consideration. Our pleasure!

Very intense tour that requires good fitness since it contains a lot of walking (almost 20km) in sometimes steep and tricky terrain, but that on the other hand means that a lot of ground is covered (i.e we got to see a lot) in very remote terrain. Nice with a stop for coffee/tea and snacks at Alfredo's place and a very interactive guide that lets you touch, taste and smell lots of things but also teaches you about the history (both the good, bad and the sad) of the national park etc. We got to see a fair bit of animals but far from all that you sometimes get to see, that on the other hand is just down to luck I guess. One of the highlights of the tour was to swim and cool off in a very impressive water fall where we were completely alone.
Maria_E, Feb 2023
We enjoyed the hike immensely. A huge thanks to Aaron, our knowledgeable and fun guide. We loved every second of the day from the boat trip to the climb up the cliff. ¡Muchísimas gracias!
Anastasiya_V, Dec 2022
It was a nice walking trip, we went ~16 km through the forest. The terrain was sometimes uneven and muddy, so good hiking shoes and reasonable physical shape is a must for this trip.
On the way we observed many monkeys and birds, as well as beautiful beaches. Overall it was a very good tour!
danasalinger, Nov 2022
This was one of the worst days of my life. The description of the tour says it’s a “moderate” hike. I was in decent shape and had been on many hikes throughout my time in Costa Rica. This tour almost killed me. It was extremely difficult. The pace we had to keep while treking over uneven terrain was exhausting. Because I wasn’t as fast as the other two people on my tour, I was often alone. They would wait for me but as soon as I would catch up, they’d take off again so that I got no break to catch my breath. There are parts of the hike where you had to pull yourself up using a rope. These parts were slippery and at one point I slipped and fell on my ribs, bruising them. The guide was not with me when that happened because he was ahead with the others. He kept telling me that this hill/incline was the last one but then it wasn’t. He told me it was the last one probably 12 times. I found that to be extremely frustrating because I couldn’t gauge how much longer I was to be in misery. I cried multiple times on the hike. I genuinely did not think I was going to make it. When I got back to my hotel that night, my legs were so overworked that I couldn’t sleep. They were seizing up, twitching, and cramping all night. Also while on the tour, the other girl got injured because of our tour guides actions. He was antagonizing some monkeys in the trees above us. They got mad and threw a branch down at us that hit the girl on the tour in the head. He also completely lost the other two people on the tour. In the last hour he hung back to walk with me (finally) and told them to go ahead but he’d meet them at the beach. I didn’t know this at the time. When we got to the beach we kept walking through and he said something about how he was mad they didn’t wait. But we didn’t really look around for them. When we made it back to the truck, they weren’t there. He had to hike back for them. It turns out they were waiting at the beach but because he didn’t look for them at all, he missed them and continued on. It took over an hour for him to hike back to find them and then return to the truck. This whole time it was pouring rain. Although, I was so happy to be sitting and alive that I didn’t even care that I was left in the rain for over an hour.
Do not go on this tour unless you are incredibly physically fit. And I’d be careful if the guide starts making fighting noises at the monkeys…
Joyce_D, Mar 2022
The walk itself was nice, it was very adventurous. If you like hiking through the jungle and along the beaches, the tour is great.
The guide was not really focussed on spotting animals and we didnt think he put effort in entertaining the group and/or making a connection with the group. He had however a lot of knowledge of the nature, with some interesting information.
Response from Host, Apr 2022
Thank you for your comment.
Really this tour is not focused on animals, because it is a real jungle, where it is unpredictable to know what you are going to see and what you are not going to see. That's exactly what we love, that it's a surprise.
Unfortunately the problem with the animals is that on the internet they say that Corcovado has a lot of animals and many people end up disappointed, because it is not really like that, it does not look like South Africa or a zoo. we always recommend at this point is not to have expectations and enjoy nature anyway.
Regarding the guide, he might not be to your liking. I assure you that we all try to do our best to make everyone happy, but working with people is not easy.
Anyway, thanks for the comment, we always consider criticism.
Thank you!

Great tour, we saw a ton of wildlife and the guide was very good at locating birds and wildlife. Be prepared for some stretches of very steep, goat-trail climbing. Plenty of shade on tour.
Dominika_F, Mar 2021
Carlos has a great knowledge about the area and you can tell that he loves his job. It is a true jungle experience including primary and secondary rainforest. The best part is that he takes you off the beaten path so there will be no crowed (unlike with other tours). We saw beautiful birds (like ones in the Attenborough movies), spider monkey, coati.
By the way he has the best “office” I have ever seen:)
Kornej_R, Mar 2026
Pure plant world exploration, hiking grade 4 out of 5. Conditions are supposed to be good. There is no safety on the climbing slope. Ggeit do not carry safety/first aid equipment or radio, Mobile network not accessible.
Very nice forest. Route 16.5 km.b at 28-32 degrees.

Loved it. Prachtige, stevige wandeling.

Response from Host, May 2024
Hi Lisanne! Great to hear from you again!! Thank you so much for your feedback we apreciate it :)
It is true that this is a route designed for the more adventurous and people who want to do something different in Corcovado, not the typical experience. And it is true that you can see animals, but as it is something very unpredictable we do not like to create expectations to people beforehand. It is much better when you are surprised, more special!
We hope you dare to go into the jungle again sometime!

Hi Eva Maria, thank you very much for your comment, we really appreciate it :)
Sometimes doing this hike in the rain is hard and requires more physical effort, but well if you come to a tropical jungle you have to expect anything, it's totally unpredictable!!!! Now you know that you have lived a 100% tropical adventure and survived!!!!

Response from Host, Feb 2024
Hey!! the problem is that sometimes tripadvisor alters the product descriptions without notifying us. That is why we made the refund, because when they explained the situation we checked the description of the tripadvisor tour and indeed, it was not the right one. We are sorry for the inconvenience but it was not a mistake on our part, but on Tripadvisor's website.
Marko_K, Apr 2023
