We were six girls for my thirtieth birthday trip and all loved Pepe so much! He is so so knowledgeable and kind, and shared extra information with us than a bigger tour would have (two of us in the group had previously been to Chichen Itza on a bigger group tour and we agreed this was sooo much better!). His English was perfect and he was very helpful and easy to communicate with beforehand, too. At the end of the tour he gave us a recommendation for the cutest “hole in the wall” authentic Mexican restaurant which we loved! Thanks again, Pepe!!

Great communication and instructions fo rmeeting. Guide was knowlegeable and intertaining. Tour company charged us for private tour and put us into a larger group - no refund or compensation.

The guide, Enrique Tun, was fantastic. He was personable and provided a lot of insights into the Mayan culture and design of the buildings. I learned a great deal during the tour and some interesting accepts of the construction of the buildings.
The private tour was timed perfectly - before the crowds.
The team provided precise instructions on where to meet and Enrique helped us with some logistics which save time on entry.
I would highly recommend this type of tour.

Guide changed location for meeting so we had to hire another person. Viator guide came late and told us we weren’t supposed to be there.

We had a great tour of Chichen Itza. Our guide Pepe was excellent. He told us the history of Chichen Itza and the Mayans. And he did so by telling stories that were entertaining and easy to understand.
Something we did not know was that there is a time change from the Cancun area to Chichen Itza. But Pepe was arriving early and we were able to start the tour early. Also, he had given us helpful advice in arriving in our car to ignore all the people trying to persuade us to park and instead go all the way to the official parking. Finally, Pepe gave us a great recommendation for lunch as we left.

It was very easy to book the tour. We were specific that we wanted Pepe as our guide as we had read previous reviews. Pepe was absolutely fantastic. He was very helpful even before the tour started and helped as get a taxi from Vallodilid. Pepe has a very thorugh background and could give detailed descriptions of various parts of Chichen Itza together with the history behind the monument and the Mayans living there. He literlally made it come to life. He is very friendly, funny, excellent communicator and has an exhaustive knowledge of the monument and its history. There were no questions he could not answer and toook the time to lead us through the monument in a relaxed manner.

We had the best time yesterday with Pepe. He was very knowledgeable and passionate about the Mayan culture and people. We learned so many things. My children were fascinated to learn about Chichenitza, and Pepe answered all their questions with as much historical accuracy as possible. I would recommend Pepe to anyone going to Chichenitza.

He is extremely interesting, clear and most importantly: he masters Mayan history! Pepe used to be a history teacher: he has a ton of knowledge and knows how to captivate an audience! Pepe was very communicative and easygoing. He spoke English very well and was incredibly knowledgeable about Maya history, culture and archaeology! He brought photos to help us visualize different parts of the ruins and gracefully avoided larger tour groups without it taking away from our experience :). Pepe set a very high standard for tour guides we'll search for in the future!

Pepe was the perfect tour guide, full stop. He is incredibly knowledgeable, providing us with nothing but interesting information far beyond the Chichén Itzá site. What really blew us away is how he clearly stays informed on new developments in archaeology, anthropology, history… to tell the story in a detailed and nuanced way, but ever so colourful through his passion and engagement with the subject. I rarely write reviews, but I recommend Pepe’s tour wholeheartedly!

Jose Maria is a resourceful guide. Unlike other guide, he was much more prepared with archive pictures, photos and drawings. He tried his best making the story interesting, and passionately shared his own opinion regarding major historical events.
The tour covers the entire ruin, not just the pyramid. The pace is family friendly. My entire group enjoyed this experience a lot.

Understanding what we looking at. Learn the history and unique features of Chichen Itza. Appreciated have a guide that knew and did excellent job sharing his knowledge. The calm and easy way we visited the site. His added visual tools he carried provided lots of great info. The private tour gave us the ability to ask questions and go at a nice pace. It was a remarkable experience.

We were a multigenerational family of five looking for a history lesson on Mayans while visiting this incredible site. Our guide Jose Maria (Pepe) was incredibly insightful, spoke fluent English and was enthusiastic about history. He also was punctual and reached out to us with meeting information prior to the tour. Jose was an absolute gem and we cannot recommend him highly enough. Having a passion and a background in Histoey is one thing, but being able to share that passion and rich knowledge with others in such a captivating manner is another thing. From the moment the visit started we were hooked; Jose is very detailed yet clear, answered all of our questions and was full of anecdotes and historical facts on top of the history of the place itself. From beginning to end we were enthralled by the visit he led.
Do not miss out on the opportunity of discovering Chichén Itzá alongside Jose who will definitely make that visit a 1000 times better.

Absolutely incredible tour with the best guide I could have ever asked for! You will appreciate this tour if you're looking for a more in-depth and accurate history of the site, including a lot of the nuances and modern implications that other guides will avoid discussing. Pepe spends a great deal of time time going through a lot of the Mayan glyphs and drawings to tell the stories through the Mayan's own words, which adds an entire dimension to the experience, and gives you a greater appreciation for it all. Pepe started out as a history teacher, and it shows in the best way!

To say that Jose Maria Osorio, aka Pepe, is the best tour guide is a profound understatement. Understanding his rich Mayan and Spanish heritage gives the traveler an unbiased and informative experience. His mastery of the English language is a HUGE bonus!
Over the years my family and I have had multiple guided tours around the world as well as the Yucatan peninsula. This was my second tour of Chichen Itza. Pepe's small private tour style provides an in-depth and flexible experience which is just on a totally different level!!! From his detailed pre-tour communication, travel hacks, to greeting us on time. His greater than 30 years of experience, curiosity, and expansive knowledge of Mayan history & archaeology is unmatched. He shares information in a simplified & entertaining fashion to keep everyone in the private tour engaged. You feel his passion for his Mayan ancestry & keep wanting to hear more. We started at 8am and the next thing we knew, three and a half hours zoomed by.
He is also such a polite, patient & kind host with a warm welcoming smile. Providing my parents & me with an ice cold bottle of water upon arrival was refreshing. He has the type of personality that is so friendly & genuine that you feel like you are spending time with a close family member rather than someone you just met. I would highly recommend him for a first time or returning visitor of Chichen Itza.

Jose Maria (Pepe) was amazing! He showed us more than most tour guides do, walking by excavation sites where restoration is continuing. He gave us a thorough walkthrough of Mayan history, and you can tell he has taken the time to really learn the history of the Mayan civilization. He was also extremely helpful with recommendations in Valladolid to eat at, and in helping us find our Skip the line access booth. Would highly recommend taking this tour with Pepe.

The ball game was fascinating. The main pyramid is the top structure of 3 levels. So much information was new to me and unanticipated.
