Good tour and guide, but misleading ticket pricing.
The guided tour itself was very good. The guide was easy to find at the entrance, spoke very clear English, provided exactly the right level of information, and answered all our questions. The duration and level of detail were perfect for visiting Chichen Itza.
Unfortunately, I can only give 2/5 because of the way the entrance tickets were handled.
After booking and paying for the tour through Viator, we received a WhatsApp message from the tour company with practical information and a link to purchase the entrance tickets online. What they do not clearly mention is that the tickets purchased through this link are significantly more expensive: 950 MXN per person, while the entrance fee for foreign visitors when buying directly at Chichen Itza was only 700 MXN per person.
When we questioned the 250 MXN difference, we were given several explanations, including avoiding queues, a 5% tax, and costs related to maintaining their ticketing app. However, there was no queue at all when we visited in early November. After discussing it with them, they eventually acknowledged the issue and refunded us 250 MXN per person in cash.
The tour itself deserves a very good rating, but I find it misleading that customers are directed to a more expensive ticket option without being clearly informed that they are paying a substantial premium compared with the official entrance price.
My advice: book the tour, but buy your entrance tickets through the official Chichen Itza channels or directly at the entrance.

Very informative guide really went out of way to explain. Particularly thought the way he brought a large iPad showing videos and images of what thinks would have looked like in the day was helpful. But tell people traffic on the approach is heavy and if we had not been 30 mins early we would have missed our tour

Our guide Russell was great. Was a lovely time. The entry fee to chichen itza itself feels a little high, but this add on is worth it for all you learn, and means you probably get more value for money overall
Russell provided the perfect experience! He is part of the community, knows so much about the history and knew the perfect spots for memorable photos! It worked out that we were the only family in our guided tour, and he personalized the experience for our children. We are so grateful to Russell for a fantastic experience from beginning to end!
Unfortunately, the tour was not well organized, as the staff at the meeting point did not even know. Our tour was scheduled at 10.30. We arrived at 10.10 and had to wait until 10.45 until our guide arrived. He was nice and spoke good English, unfortunately a bit difficult for us to understand due to the “Mexican” pronunciation. The tour itself was good and worth it. However, not for the price.
